Tous les peuples sont nés à Sion
87 Psaume des Qoréites[a]. Cantique[b].
Elle est fondée ╵sur les montagnes saintes,
2 l’Eternel aime ╵la ville[c] de Sion
plus que tout autre lieu ╵du pays de Jacob.
3 O toi, cité de Dieu,
ce que l’on dit de toi ╵est tout chargé de gloire :

4 « Parmi tous ceux qui me connaissent,
je ferai mention de Rahav, l’Egypte[d] ╵aussi bien que de Babylone,
j’inscris la Philistie, ╵et Tyr, et l’Ethiopie,
comme étant nés ici[e]. »
5 De Sion, on dira : ╵« Tout homme est né ici »,
et le Très-Haut lui-même ╵la maintient fermement.
6 Dans le registre ╵où l’Eternel inscrit les peuples, ╵pour chacun d’eux il note :
« Un tel est né ici »,
Pause
7 et ils diront ╵dans leurs chants et leurs danses :
« Toutes mes sources sont en toi. »

- 87.4 Les peuples énumérés étaient les ennemis habituels d’Israël (Es 19.2) ; ils représentent l’ensemble des peuples païens. L’Egypte est ici appelée poétiquement Rahav, du nom d’un dragon des mers mythologique opposé au Créateur et associé à l’Egypte qui a opprimé les Israélites (cf. Es 30.7). D’autres textes présentent l’ouverture d’un passage dans la mer des Roseaux pour libérer les Israélites de l’esclavage en Egypte comme une victoire sur le dragon Rahav (Ps 89.11 ; Es 51.9).

1 He has founded his city on the holy mountain.(A)
2 The Lord loves the gates of Zion(B)
more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are said of you,
city of God:[a](C)
4 “I will record Rahab[b](D) and Babylon
among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia(E) too, and Tyre(F), along with Cush[c]—
and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”[d](G)
5 Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
“This one and that one were born in her,
and the Most High himself will establish her.”
6 The Lord will write in the register(H) of the peoples:
“This one was born in Zion.”
