Psalm 82
New King James Version
A Plea for Justice
A Psalm of Asaph.
82 God (A)stands in the congregation of [a]the mighty;
He judges among (B)the [b]gods.
2 How long will you judge unjustly,
And (C)show partiality to the wicked? Selah
3 [c]Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and (D)needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.
5 They do not know, nor do they understand;
They walk about in darkness;
All the (E)foundations of the earth are [d]unstable.
6 I said, (F)“You are [e]gods,
And all of you are children of the Most High.
7 But you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the princes.”
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth;
(G)For You shall inherit all nations.

Dieu se tient ╵au conseil divin,
au milieu des « dieux[b] », ╵il rend la justice :
2 « Ah ! jusques à quand ╵rendrez-vous des jugements iniques
et prendrez-vous le parti ╵des méchants ?
Pause
3 Faites droit au faible, ╵et à l’orphelin,
et rendez justice ╵au pauvre et au démuni[c],
4 libérez le faible ╵et le défavorisé,
délivrez-les de la main ╵des méchants.
5 Mais ils ne comprennent rien, ╵ils ne savent rien,
ils errent dans les ténèbres ;
les fondements du pays ╵en sont ébranlés.
6 J’avais dit : ╵“Vous êtes des dieux[d],
oui, vous tous, vous êtes ╵des fils du Très-Haut !”
7 Cependant, vous périrez ╵comme tous les hommes,
et vous tomberez ╵comme n’importe quel dirigeant. »
8 O Dieu, lève-toi ╵et viens gouverner[e] le monde,
car tu as pour possession ╵tous les peuples !

En effet, les pouvoirs législatif, exécutif et judiciaire n’étaient pas séparés dans le Proche-Orient ancien et les dirigeants politiques exerçaient souvent la fonction de juge.

King James Version
82 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
