81 要向 神我们的力量欢呼，
要向雅各的 神大声呼叫。
2 要唱诗歌，打手鼓，
弹奏美好的琴瑟。
3 要在月朔，在月望，
在我们守节的日子吹角。
4 因为这是给以色列的律例，
是雅各的 神的典章。
5 约瑟从埃及地出来（“约瑟从埃及地出来”或译：“ 神出去攻击埃及地”）的时候，

A Song for a Holiday
For the director of music. By the gittith [C perhaps a musical term or instrument]. A psalm of Asaph [C a Levitical musician, a descendant of Gershon, at the time of David; 1 Chr. 6:39; 15:17; 2 Chr. 5:12].
81 Sing for joy to God, our strength;
shout out loud to the God of Jacob [C another name for Israel].
2 ·Begin the music [Lift up a psalm]. ·Play [Sound; L Give] the tambourines [68:25; 149:3; 150:4; Ex. 15:20].
·Play pleasant music on the harps [L …the pleasant/sweet harps] and lyres.
3 Blow the ·trumpet [ram’s horn] at ·the time of the New Moon [L the month; C a monthly religious festival],
when the moon is full, when our feast begins.
4 This is the ·law [statute; ordinance; requirement] for Israel;
it is the ·command [judgment] of the God of Jacob [v. 1].
5 He ·gave [set] this ·rule [decree; testimony] to the people of Joseph [C reference to the northern tribes]
when they went out of the land of Egypt [C the exodus; Ex. 12–15].
I heard a ·language [L tongue] I did not know, saying [C God now speaks]:
6 “I ·took the load off [removed the burden from] their shoulders;
·I let them put down their baskets [L Their hands were removed from the baskets].
7 When you were in ·trouble [distress], you called, and I ·saved [rescued] you.
I answered you ·with thunder [L in the secret place of thunder; Ex. 19:18–19].
I tested you at the waters of Meribah [95:8; 106:32; Ex. 17:1–17; Num. 20:1–13]. ·
8 My people, listen. I ·am warning [bear testimony/witness against] you.
Israel, please listen to me!
9 You must not have ·foreign [strange] gods;
you must not worship any ·false [foreign] god.
10 I, the Lord, am your God,
who brought you out of Egypt.
·Open [L Widen] your mouth and I will feed you [Deut. 29:6; 32:10–14].
11 “But my people did not listen to ·me [L my voice];
Israel did not ·want [accept] me.
12 So I ·let them go their stubborn way [L threw them away because of their stubborn hearts]
and ·follow [walk according to] their own advice.
13 I wish my people would listen to me;
I wish Israel would ·live [L walk on] my way.
14 Then I would quickly ·defeat [subdue; quell] their enemies
and turn my hand against their foes.
15 Those who hate the Lord would ·bow [cringe; cower] before him.
Their ·punishment [doom] would continue forever.
16 But I would give you the finest wheat [Deut. 32:14]
and fill you with honey from the rocks [Deut. 32:13].”

«لِقَائِدِ المُرَنِّمِينَ» بِمُصَاحَبَةِ الجَتِّيَّة. مَزْمُورٌ لِآسَاف.
81 دَعُونَا نُرَنِّمُ للهِ قُوَّتِنَا،
اهْتِفُوا لِإلَهِ يَعْقُوبَ!
2 دُقُّوا المُوسِيقَى،
اضرِبُوا عَلَى الدُّفِّ وَالعُودِ الجَمِيلِ وَالقِيثَارِ!
3 انفُخُوا البُوقَ عِنْدَ أوَّلِ الشَّهْرِ،
وَعِنْدَ اكتِمَالِ البَدرِ إيذَانًا بِبَدءِ عِيدِنَا المُقَدَّسِ.
4 وَهَذِهِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى إسْرَائِيلَ،
إنَّهَا وَصِيَّةٌ أعْطَاهَا اللهُ لِيَعْقُوبَ.
5 هَذَا جُزءٌ مِنَ عَهْدِ اللهِ
لَمَّا غَادَرُوا مِصْرًا.
سَمِعْتُ صَوْتًا بِلُغَةٍ لَمْ أعْرِفْهَا يَقُولُ:
6 «أزَحتُ العِبءَ عَنْ كَتِفِهِ،
وَالسَّلَّةَ مِنْ يَدَيهِ.
7 حِينَ كُنْتَ فِي ضِيقٍ استَنْجَدتَ بِي.
فَأجَبتُكَ سِرًّا بِالرَّعدِ.
امتَحَنْتُكَ عِنْدَ مِيَاهِ مَرِيبَةَ.» سِلَاهْ[a]
8 «اسْتَمِعْ إلَيَّ يَا شَعْبِي!
إنْ استَمَعتَ إلَيَّ، سَأقْطَعُ مَعَكَ عَهْدًا.
9 لَا يَكُنْ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ آلِهَةٌ غَرِيبَةٌ.
وَلإلَهٍ غَرِيبٍ لَا تَنْحَنُوا.
10 أنَا إلَهُكُمْ الَّذِي أخْرَجَكُمْ مِنْ مِصْرٍ.
افتَحْ فَمَكَ وَأنَا أملأُهُ.
11 «لَكِنَّ شَعْبِي لَمْ يَسْمَعْ لِصَوْتِي.
إسْرَائِيلُ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُرِيدُنِي.
12 لِهَذَا سَأترُكُهُمْ لِعِنَادِهِمْ،
فَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يَحْلُو لَهُمْ.
13 لَيْتَ شَعْبِي يَسْتَمِعُ إلَيَّ،
لَيْتَ إسْرَائِيلَ يَمْشِي فِي الطَّرِيقِ الَّتِي أُرِيدُهَا لَهُ.
14 لِأنَّنِي عِنْدَئِذٍ سَأُسرِعُ إلَى إخضَاعِ أعْدَائِهِمْ،
وَأُعَاقِبُ خُصُومَهُمْ.
15 الَّذِينَ يَكْرَهُونَ اللهَ سَيَنْكَمِشُونَ أمَامَهُ،
وَدَمَارُهُمْ سَيَكُونُ إلَى الأبَدِ.
16 أمَّا أنَا فَسَأُطعِمُكُمْ قَمْحًا كَثِيرًا.
وَسَأُشبِعُكُمْ عَسَلًا مِنَ الصَّخرَةِ.»

God gives us strength[a]
81 Sing with joy to praise God!
He is the one who makes us strong!
Shout aloud to the God of Jacob.[b]
2 Start the music! Beat your tambourines!
Make beautiful music on your harps and lyres.
3 Start the New Moon Festival
with the sound of the trumpet.
Also do it on the day of the Full Moon.[c]
4 This is a rule for Israel's people.
The God of Jacob commanded us to do it.
5 When God punished the land of Egypt,
he gave this rule to Joseph's family.
I heard a voice that I did not know.
6 It said: ‘I took the heavy load off your back.
You no longer had to carry those heavy baskets.
7 When you had trouble, you called to me for help
and I made you safe.
I answered your prayers
from the middle of the dark storm.
I tested you at Meribah,
when you had no water in the wilderness.
Selah.
8 I said, “My people, listen to me!
I warn you now.
Listen carefully to me, Israel's people!
9 There must not be any strange god among you.
You must never worship a foreign god.
10 I am the Lord, your God.
I brought you out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide,
and I will fill it with many good things.”[d]
11 But my people refused to listen to me.
My people, Israel, did not obey me.
12 So I let them follow their own proud ideas.
They could do whatever they wanted to do.
13 But my people should listen to me!
Yes, Israel should obey my commands!
14 Then I would quickly win against their enemies.
I would attack them all.’
15 (Then people who hate the Lord
would fall down with fear in front of him.
They would be ashamed for ever.)
16 ‘But I would feed you, my people, with the best wheat.
I would give you plenty of honey from the rock,
for you to eat and be full.’

- 81:1 This psalm was written to sing at a festival. It was probably the Festival of Huts. See Leviticus 23:33-43.
- 81:1 ‘Jacob’ is another name for ‘Israel’, so ‘God of Jacob’ means Israel's God.
- 81:3 There were two festivals in October. The first one started when the moon was new. The second one started two weeks later, when the moon was full. The second one was the Feast of Huts.
- 81:10 Verses 8-10 tell us what God said to his people in the wilderness. He warned them to worship only him. He promised to feed them and give them everything that they needed, if they obeyed him.
