68 愿 神兴起,愿他的仇敌四散;

愿恨恶他的人从他面前逃跑。

愿你把他们赶散,如同烟被风吹散一样;

愿恶人在 神面前灭亡,

好象蜡在火前熔化。

但愿义人在 神面前欢喜快乐;

愿他们高兴快乐。

你们要向 神歌唱,歌颂他的名;

为那乘车经过旷野的预备道路(本句或译:“高举那乘驾云彩之上的”);

他的名是耶和华,

你们要在他面前欢乐。

 神在他的圣居所,

作孤儿的父亲,作寡妇的伸冤者。

 神使孤独的有家可居住;

领被囚的出来,到丰盛之处;

唯有悖逆的住在干旱之地。

 神啊!你领着你的子民出来,

走过旷野的时候,(细拉)

地就震动,

在你面前天也落下雨来;

这西奈山在 神面前,

就是在以色列的 神面前,也要震动。

 神啊!你降下大雨,

使你贫瘠的产业得到滋润。

10 你的子民住在其中;

11 主发出命令,

传扬好信息的妇女就成了一大群。

12 “带领大军的君王都逃跑了,逃跑了;

住在家中的妇女分得了战利品。

14 全能者赶散境内列王的时候,

就像撒们山上下大雪。

16 多峰多岭的山哪!

你们为甚么敌视 神所喜悦居住的山呢?

耶和华必住在那里,直到永远。

18 你升到高天的时候,

掳了许多俘虏;

接受了礼物,

24  神啊!人人都看见你的巡行队伍,

看见我的 神、我的君王的巡行队伍,进入圣所。

25 歌唱的在前头行,作乐的走在后面,

中间还有击鼓的少女。

26 你们要在大会中称颂 神,

以色列的子孙(“以色列的子孙”原文作“从以色列的源头来的”)啊!你们要称颂耶和华。

27 在那里有微小的便雅悯领导他们;

随后的,有犹大的领袖,成群结队,

还有西布伦和拿弗他利的领袖。

 神啊!坚立你为我们作成的事吧。

I

    may his enemies be scattered;
    may those who hate him flee before him.(A)
As the smoke is dispersed, disperse them;
    as wax is melted by fire,
    so may the wicked perish before God.(B)
Then the just will be glad;
    they will rejoice before God;
    they will celebrate with great joy.

II

Sing to God, praise his name;
    exalt the rider of the clouds.[c]
Rejoice before him
    whose name is the Lord.(C)
Father of the fatherless, defender of widows(D)
    God in his holy abode,
God gives a home to the forsaken,
    who leads prisoners out to prosperity,
    while rebels live in the desert.[d]

III

God, when you went forth before your people,(E)
    when you marched through the desert,

The earth quaked, the heavens poured,
    before God, the One of Sinai,
    before God, the God of Israel.
10 You poured abundant rains, God,
    your inheritance was weak and you repaired it.
11 Your creatures dwelt in it;
    you will establish it in your goodness for the poor, O God.

IV

12 The Lord announced:
    “Those bringing news are a great Army.
13     The kings of the armies are in desperate flight.(F)
Every household will share the spoil,
14     though you lie down among the sheepfolds,(G)
    you shall be covered with silver as the wings of a dove,
    her feathers bright as fine gold.”
15 When the Almighty routs the kings there,
    it will be as when snow fell on Zalmon.[e]

16 You mountain of God, mountain of Bashan,
    you rugged mountain, mountain of Bashan,
17 You rugged mountains, why look with envy
    at the mountain[f] where God has chosen to dwell,
    where the Lord resides forever?(H)
18 God’s chariots were myriad, thousands upon thousands;
    from Sinai the Lord entered the holy place.
19 You went up to its lofty height;
    you took captives, received slaves as tribute,(I)
    even rebels, for the Lord God to dwell.

VI

20 Blessed be the Lord day by day,
    God, our salvation, who carries us.(J)

21 Our God is a God who saves;
    escape from death is the Lord God’s.
22 God will crush the heads of his enemies,
    the hairy scalp of the one who walks in sin.(K)
23 The Lord has said:
    “Even from Bashan I will fetch them,
    fetch them even from the depths of the sea.[g]
24 You will wash your feet in your enemy’s blood;
    the tongues of your dogs will lap it up.”(L)

    your procession into the holy place, my God and king.
26 The singers go first, the harpists follow;

27 In your choirs, bless God;

    there the princes of Judah, a large throng,

29 Summon again, O God, your power,
    the divine power you once showed for us,
30 From your temple on behalf of Jerusalem,
    that kings may bring you tribute.
31 Roar at the wild beast of the reeds,[i]
    the herd of mighty bulls, the calves of the peoples;
    trampling those who lust after silver
    scatter the peoples that delight in war.
32 Let bronze be brought from Egypt,(O)
    Ethiopia hurry its hands to God.(P)

33 You kingdoms of the earth, sing to God;(Q)
    chant the praises of the Lord,

34 Who rides the heights of the ancient heavens,
    Who sends forth his voice as a mighty voice?
35 Confess the power of God,
    whose majesty protects Israel,
    whose power is in the sky.
36 Awesome is God in his holy place,

  1. Psalm 68 The Psalm is extremely difficult because the Hebrew text is badly preserved and the ceremony that it describes is uncertain. The translation assumes the Psalm accompanied the early autumn Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkoth), which included a procession of the tribes (Ps 68:25–28). Israel was being oppressed by a foreign power, perhaps Egypt (Ps 68:31–32)—unless Egypt stands for any oppressor. The Psalm may have been composed from segments of ancient poems, which would explain why the transitions are implied rather than explicitly stated. At any rate, Ps 68:2 is based on Nm 10:35–36, and Ps 68:8–9 are derived from Jgs 5:4–5. The argument develops in nine stanzas (each of three to five poetic lines): 1. confidence that God will destroy Israel’s enemies (Ps 68:2–4); 2. call to praise God as savior (Ps 68:5–7); 3. God’s initial rescue of Israel from Egypt (Ps 68:8), the Sinai encounter (Ps 68:9), and the settlement in Canaan (Ps 68:10–11); 4. the defeat of the Canaanite kings (Ps 68:12–15); 5. the taking of Jerusalem, where Israel’s God will rule the world (Ps 68:16–19); 6. praise for God’s past help and for the future interventions that will be modeled on the ancient exodus-conquest (Ps 68:20–24); 7. procession at the Feast of Tabernacles (Ps 68:25–28); 8. prayer that the defeated enemies bring tribute to the Temple (Ps 68:29–32); 9. invitation for all kingdoms to praise Israel’s God (Ps 68:33–35).
  2. 68:2 The opening line alluding to Nm 10:35 makes clear that God’s assistance in the period of the exodus and conquest is the model and assurance of all future divine help.
  3. 68:5 Exalt the rider of the clouds: God’s intervention is in the imagery of Canaanite myth in which the storm-god mounted the storm clouds to ride to battle. Such theophanies occur throughout the Psalm: Ps 68:2–3, 8–10, 12–15, 18–19, 22–24, 29–32, 34–35. See Dt 33:26; Ps 18:8–16; Is 19:1.
  4. 68:7 While rebels live in the desert: rebels must live in the arid desert, whereas God’s people will live in the well-watered land (Ps 68:8–11).
  5. 68:15 Zalmon: generally taken as the name of a mountain where snow is visible in winter, perhaps to be located in the Golan Heights or in the mountains of Bashan or Hauran east of the Sea of Galilee.
  6. 68:17 The mountain: Mount Zion, the site of the Temple.
  7. 68:23 Even from Bashan…from the depths of the sea: the heights and the depths, the farthest places where enemies might flee.
  8. 68:25–28 Your procession: the procession renews God’s original taking up of residence on Zion, described in Ps 68:16–19.

Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered;
    let those who hate Him flee before Him.
As smoke is driven away,
    You drive them away;
as wax melts before the fire,
    so may the wicked perish before God.
But let the righteous be glad;
    let them rejoice before God;
    let them rejoice exceedingly.

Sing to God, sing praises to His name;
    raise a song to Him who rides through the deserts—
His name is the Lord;
    exult before Him.
A father of the fatherless, and a protector of the widows,
    is God in His holy habitation.
God sets the deserted in families;
    He brings out prisoners into prosperity,
    but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

O God, when You went forth before Your people,
    when You marched through the wasteland, Selah
the earth shook;
    the heavens also poured down rain
at the presence of God; even Sinai shook
    at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
You, O God, sent plentiful rain;
    You established Your inheritance when it was weary.
10 Your congregation has lived in it;
    You, O God, by Your goodness have prepared for the poor.

11 The Lord gave the word;
    great was the company of women who proclaimed it:
12 “Kings of armies flee; they flee!”
    Even the women who were at home divided the spoil.
13 Though you sleep between the sheepfolds,
    yet you will be like the wings of a dove overlaid with silver,
    and its feathers with yellow gold.
14 When the Almighty scattered kings in it,
    it was white as snow on Mount Zalmon.

15 The mountain of God is as the mountain of Bashan;
    a mountain of many peaks like the mountain of Bashan.
16 Why are you envious, you mountains of many peaks?
    This is the mountain which God desires to dwell in;
    yes, the Lord will dwell in it forever.
17 The chariots of God are twice ten thousand, even thousands of thousands;
    the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.
18 You have ascended on high,
    You have led captivity captive;
    You have received gifts from people,
yes, even from the rebellious,
    that the Lord God might dwell among them.

19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits,
    even the God who is our salvation. Selah
20 That God is for us, the God of saving acts;
    and to God the Lord belongs escape from death.
21 But God will shatter the head of His enemies,
    and the scalp of one who walks in his trespasses.
22 The Lord said, “I will cause them to return from Bashan,

23 that your foot may stomp in the blood of your enemies,

24 They have seen Your processions, O God,
    the processions of my God, my King, in the sanctuary.

26 Bless God in the congregations,

27 There is little Benjamin leading them,
    the princes of Judah and their throng of people,

28 Your God has commanded your strength;
    strengthen, O God, what You have done for us.
29 From Your temple above Jerusalem,
    kings will bring gifts to You.
30 Rebuke the animals that live among the reeds,
    the herd of bulls, with the calves of the people,
until everyone submits himself with pieces of silver;
    scatter peoples who delight in war.
31 Ambassadors will come out of Egypt;
    Ethiopia will stretch out its hands to God.

32 Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth;
    oh, sing praises to the Lord; Selah
33 to Him who rides on the heavens, the ancient heavens;
    He who sends out His voice, a mighty voice.
34 Ascribe strength to God;
    His majesty is over Israel,
    and His strength is in the clouds.
35 O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuaries;
    the God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to people.

10 Thy congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.

11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

12 Kings of armies did flee apace: and she that tarried at home divided the spoil.

13 Though ye have lien among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold.

14 When the Almighty scattered kings in it, it was white as snow in Salmon.

15 The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan; an high hill as the hill of Bashan.

16 Why leap ye, ye high hills? this is the hill which God desireth to dwell in; yea, the Lord will dwell in it for ever.

17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place.

18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them.

20 He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death.

28 Thy God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us.

29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee.

30 Rebuke the company of spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou the people that delight in war.

31 Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God.

32 Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah:

Gott wird sich erheben;
seine Feinde werden sich zerstreuen,
und die ihn hassen, werden vor ihm fliehen![a]

Wie Rauch vertrieben wird, so wirst du sie vertreiben;
wie Wachs vor dem Feuer zerschmilzt,
so werden die Gottlosen vergehen vor dem Angesicht Gottes!

Die Gerechten aber werden sich freuen
und fröhlich sein vor Gottes Angesicht
und jubeln vor Freude.

Singt Gott, lobsingt seinem Namen!
Macht Bahn dem, der durch die Steppen fährt,
Herr ist sein Name,[b]
und frohlockt vor ihm!

Ein Vater der Waisen, ein Anwalt der Witwen
ist Gott, der in seinem Heiligtum wohnt;

ein Gott, der Vereinsamten ein Heim gibt,
der Gefangene hinausführt ins Glück;
aber die Widerspenstigen wohnen in dürrem Land.

O Gott, als du auszogst vor deinem Volk her,
als du durch die Wüste schrittest, (Sela)

da erbebte die Erde,
auch die Himmel troffen vor Gottes Angesicht,
der Sinai dort vor Gott,
dem Gott Israels.

10 Regen in Fülle hast du ausgegossen, o Gott;
dein Erbe, das ermattet war, hast du erquickt.

11 Deine Herde wohnte darin;
in deiner Güte, o Gott, hast du es für die Elenden zubereitet!

12 Der Herr erlässt sein Wort[c];
groß ist die Schar der Siegesbotinnen.

13 Die Könige der Heerscharen,
sie fliehen, ja, sie fliehen;
und die Bewohnerin des Hauses teilt Beute aus!

14 Wollt ihr zwischen den Hürden liegen?
Die Flügel der Taube sind mit Silber überzogen
und ihr Gefieder mit schimmerndem Gold!

15 Als der Allmächtige die Könige dort zerstreute,
da schneite es auf dem Zalmon[d].

16 Das Gebirge Baschan ist ein Gottesberg,
das Gebirge Baschan ist ein gipfelreicher Berg.

17 Warum beneidet ihr gipfelreichen Berge
den Berg, den Gott zu seiner Wohnung begehrt hat,
den der Herr auch ewiglich bewohnen wird?

18 Gottes Wagen sind zehntausendmal zehntausend,
tausende und Abertausende;
der Herr ist unter ihnen — [wie am] Sinai in Heiligkeit.[e]

19 Du bist zur Höhe emporgestiegen,
hast Gefangene weggeführt;[f]
du hast Gaben empfangen unter den Menschen,
auch den Widerspenstigen,
damit Gott, der Herr, eine Wohnung habe.

20 Gepriesen sei der Herr!
Tag für Tag trägt er unsere Last,
Gott ist unser Heil! (Sela.)

21 Gott ist für uns ein Gott der Rettung,
und Gott, der Herr,[g] hat Auswege aus dem Tod.

22 Gewiss wird Gott das Haupt seiner Feinde zerschmettern,
den Haarscheitel dessen, der in seinen Sünden einhergeht.

23 Der Herr hat gesagt: Ich will [sie] von Baschan zurückbringen,
ich will [sie] zurückbringen aus den Tiefen des Meeres,

24 damit du sie zerschmetterst,
damit dein Fuß im Blut [watet],
damit die Zunge deiner Hunde
ihr Teil bekommt von den Feinden!

25 Man sieht, o Gott, deinen Einzug,
den Einzug meines Gottes, meines Königs, ins Heiligtum:

26 Die Sänger gehen voran, danach die Saitenspieler,
inmitten der Jungfrauen, die die Handpauken schlagen.

27 Preist Gott, den Herrn, in den Versammlungen,
ihr aus Israels Quell!

28 Dort ist Benjamin, der kleine, [mit] ihrem Herrscher,
die Fürsten von Juda mit ihrer Schar,
die Fürsten von Sebulon, die Fürsten von Naphtali!

29 Dein Gott hat geboten, dass du stark seist;
stärke, o Gott, was du für uns gewirkt hast!

30 Um deines Tempels in Jerusalem willen
werden Könige dir Gaben bringen.

31 Schelte das Tier im Schilf,[h]
die Rotte der starken Stiere samt den Kälbern der Völker,[i]
damit sie sich unterwerfen und Silberbarren als Tribut bringen!
Zerstreue die Völker, die gerne Krieg führen!

32 Vornehme aus Ägypten werden kommen,
Kusch[j] wird eilends seine Hände nach Gott ausstrecken.

33 Ihr Königreiche der Erde, singt Gott,
lobsingt dem Herrn, (Sela)

34 dem, der einherfährt am Himmel, am uralten Himmel![k]
Siehe, er lässt seine Stimme erschallen, seine gewaltige Stimme!

35 Gebt Gott das Lob!
Seine Hoheit waltet über Israel
und seine Macht in den Wolken.

36 Furchtgebietend erweist du dich, o Gott, von deinem Heiligtum aus!
Der Gott Israels verleiht seinem Volk Macht und Stärke.
Gepriesen sei Gott!
