祈求上帝保护

可拉后裔作的训诲诗，交给乐长。

44 上帝啊，
我们亲耳听过祖先讲述你在古时，
在我们祖先时代的作为。
²你亲手赶出外族，
把我们的祖先安置在那里；
你击溃列邦，
使我们的祖先兴旺发达。
³他们不是靠自己的刀剑征服那里，
不是靠自己的臂膀得胜，
而是靠你的权能、力量和恩惠，
因为你爱他们。
⁴你是我的君王，我的上帝；
你让雅各得胜。
⁵我们靠你击退敌人，
靠你的名践踏仇敌。
⁶我不倚靠我的弓，
我的剑不能使我得胜。
⁷只有你使我们战胜敌人，
使我们的仇敌蒙羞。
⁸上帝啊，我们终日以你为荣，
我们永远赞美你。（细拉）

⁹现在你却丢弃我们，
让我们受辱，
不再帮我们的军队作战。
¹⁰你使我们在仇敌面前败退，
遭敌人掳掠。
¹¹你使我们如被宰杀的羊，
将我们分散在列国。
¹²你把我们廉价卖掉，
视我们一文不值。
¹³你使我们遭四邻辱骂，
被周围人讥讽、嘲笑。
¹⁴你使我们成为列国的笑柄，
人们对我们连连摇头。
¹⁵我终日受辱，满面羞愧，

44 ⁽⁰⁾For the leader. By the descendants of Korach. A maskil:

²⁽¹⁾God, we heard it with our ears;
our fathers told us about it —
a deed which you did in their days,
back in days of old.
³⁽²⁾With your hand you drove out nations
to plant them in [the land],
you crushed peoples
to make room for them.

⁴⁽³⁾For not by their own swords
did they conquer the land,
nor did their own arm
give them victory;
rather, it was your right hand,
your arm and the light of your face;
because you favored them.
⁵⁽⁴⁾God, you are my king;
command complete victory for Ya‘akov.

⁶⁽⁵⁾Through you we pushed away our foes,
through your name we trampled down our assailants.
⁷⁽⁶⁾For I don’t rely on my bow,
nor can my sword give me victory.
⁸⁽⁷⁾No, you saved us from our adversaries;
you put to shame those who hate us.
⁹⁽⁸⁾We will boast in our God all day
and give thanks to your name forever. (Selah)

¹⁰⁽⁹⁾Yet now you have thrust us aside and disgraced us;
you don’t march out with our armies.
¹¹⁽¹⁰⁾You make us retreat from the adversary,
and those who hate us plunder us at will.
¹²⁽¹¹⁾You have handed us over like sheep to be eaten
and scattered us among the nations.
¹³⁽¹²⁾You sell your people for a pittance,
you don’t even profit on the sale.
¹⁴⁽¹³⁾You make us an object for our neighbors to mock,
one of scorn and derision to those around us.
¹⁵⁽¹⁴⁾You make us a byword among the nations;
the peoples jeer at us, shaking their heads.

¹⁶⁽¹⁵⁾All day long my disgrace is on my mind,
and shame has covered my face
¹⁷⁽¹⁶⁾at the sound of those who revile and insult,
at the sight of the enemy bent on revenge.
¹⁸⁽¹⁷⁾Though all this came on us, we did not forget you;
we have not been false to your covenant;
¹⁹⁽¹⁸⁾Our hearts have not turned back,
and our steps did not turn away from your path,
²⁰⁽¹⁹⁾though you pressed us into a lair of jackals
and covered us with death-dark gloom.
²¹⁽²⁰⁾If we had forgotten the name of our God
or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
²²⁽²¹⁾wouldn’t God have discovered this,
since he knows the secrets of the heart?
²³⁽²²⁾For your sake we are put to death all day long,
we are considered sheep to be slaughtered.

²⁴⁽²³⁾Wake up, Adonai! Why are you asleep?
Rouse yourself! Don’t thrust us off forever.
²⁵⁽²⁴⁾Why are you turning your face away,
forgetting our pain and misery?
²⁶⁽²⁵⁾For we are lying flat in the dust,
our bodies cling to the ground.
²⁷⁽²⁶⁾Get up, and come to help us!
For the sake of your grace, redeem us!

A Prayer for Help

¹Our God, our ancestors told us
what wonders you worked
    and we listened carefully.
²You chased off the nations
by causing them trouble
    with your powerful arm.
Then you let our ancestors
    take over their land.
³Their strength and weapons
were not what won the land
    and gave them victory!
You loved them and fought
with your powerful arm
    and your shining glory.

⁴You are my God and King,
and you give victory^[a]
    to the people of Jacob.
⁵By your great power,
we knocked our enemies down
    and trampled on them.
⁶I don't depend on my arrows
    or my sword to save me.
⁷But you saved us
from our hateful enemies,
    and you put them to shame.
⁸We boast about you, our God,
    and we are always grateful.

⁹But now you have rejected us;
you don't lead us into battle,
    and we look foolish.
¹⁰You made us retreat,
and our enemies have taken
    everything we own.
¹¹You let us be slaughtered
    like sheep,
and you scattered us
    among the nations.
¹²You sold your people
for little or nothing,
    and you earned no profit.

¹³You made us look foolish
    to our neighbors;
people who live nearby
    insult us and sneer.
¹⁴Foreigners joke about us
    and shake their heads.
¹⁵I am embarrassed every day,
    and I blush with shame.
¹⁶But others mock and sneer,
as they watch my enemies
    take revenge on me.

¹⁷All this happened to us,
though we didn't forget you
    or break our agreement.
¹⁸We always kept you in mind
    and followed your teaching.
¹⁹But you crushed us,
    and you covered us
with deepest darkness
    where wild animals live.

²⁰We did not forget you
or lift our hands in prayer
    to foreign gods.
²¹You would have known it
because you discover
    every secret thought.
²²^(A) We face death all day for you.
We are like sheep on their way
    to be slaughtered.

²³Wake up! Do something, Lord!
Why are you sleeping?
    Don't desert us forever.
²⁴Why do you keep looking away?
Don't forget our sufferings
    and all our troubles.
²⁵We are flat on the ground,
    holding on to the dust.
²⁶Do something! Help us!
Show how kind you are
    and come to our rescue.
