人的邪恶与上帝的美善
耶和华的仆人大卫的诗，交给乐长。
36 罪恶在恶人内心深处说话，
他们眼中毫无对上帝的畏惧。
2 他们自以为是，浑然不知自己的罪，
也不憎恶自己的罪。
3 他们满口恶言谎话，
毫无智慧和善行。
4 他们躺在床上盘算作恶，
执意走罪恶的道路，
无恶不作。
5 耶和华啊，你的慈爱广及诸天，
你的信实高达穹苍。
6 你的公义稳如高山，
你的判断深不可测。
耶和华啊，你保护人类，
也保护牲畜。
7 上帝啊，
你的慈爱无比宝贵！
世人都在你的翅膀下寻求荫庇。
8 你让他们饱享你殿里的美食，
畅饮你乐河中的水。
9 因为你是生命的泉源，
在你的光中我们得见光明。
10 求你常施慈爱给认识你的人，
以公义恩待心地正直的人。
11 别让骄傲人的脚践踏我，
别让凶恶人的手驱赶我。
12 看啊！恶人已经摔倒在地，
再也爬不起来。

King James Version
36 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
5 Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.
6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.

Het Boek
36 Van David, de dienaar van de Here, voor de koordirigent.
2 De zonde beïnvloedt de goddelozen,
ze hebben geen enkel ontzag voor God.
3 De goddeloze denkt heel wat van zichzelf,
totdat het zover is dat zijn zonden aan het licht komen.
Dan wordt hij een gehaat man.
4 Alles wat hij zegt, is slecht en bedrieglijk.
Verstandig en goed handelen is er niet bij.
5 Zelfs in bed bedenkt hij nog allerlei kwaad,
hij bevindt zich op de verkeerde weg
en stelt zich open voor alles wat slecht is.
6 Here, uw goedheid en liefde zijn zo groot,
uw trouw is oneindig, niet te meten.
7 Uw rechtsgevoel is als de bergen
die U Zelf hebt gemaakt.
Uw oordeel is als een grote overstroming.
U bevrijdt mensen zowel als dieren, Here.
8 Wat is het geweldig
om uw goedheid en liefde te mogen ervaren, Here!
Daarom komen talloze mensen bij U schuilen.
9 Zij genieten van al het goede dat U hun biedt
en U overspoelt hen met uw zegeningen.
10 Want U bent de bron van al het leven:
als wij in uw licht staan, zien wij de dingen duidelijk.
11 Laten uw volgelingen
voortdurend uw goedheid en liefde mogen ervaren
en laten de eerlijke mensen
mogen delen in uw rechtsgevoel.
12 Zorg toch dat
de hoogmoedige geen vat op mij krijgt
en de goddeloze mij niet opjaagt.
13 De mensen die slechte dingen doen, zijn gevallen,
zij zijn neergeslagen en kunnen nooit meer opstaan!
