Psalm 36
1 Van David, de dienaar van de Heer. Voor de leider van het koor.
2 Mensen die zich niets van God aantrekken
doen allerlei slechte dingen.
Aan hun daden is te zien dat ze geen enkel ontzag voor God hebben.
3 En als ontdekt wordt wat ze allemaal voor kwaad doen,
zijn ze er nog trots op ook.
Maar de andere mensen haten het!
4 Want alles wat ze zeggen is leugens en bedrog.
Nooit doen ze iets wat verstandig of goed is.
5 's Nachts in bed bedenken ze hun misdadige plannen.
Hun leven is door en door slecht.
Ze zeggen nooit 'nee' tegen het kwaad.
6 Heer, zo hoog als de hemel is, zó groot is uw liefde.
Uw trouw komt tot aan de hoogste wolken.
7 Uw rechtvaardigheid is zo groot als de hoogste bergen.
Uw wijsheid is zo groot als de diepste oceaan.
U redt mensen en dieren, Heer.
8 God, wat bent U toch goed en liefdevol!
Daarom komen we schuilen onder uw vleugels.
9 U geeft ons een overvloed van goede dingen.
U lest onze dorst met uw liefde.
10 Want bij U is de bron van het leven.
Als we dicht bij U zijn, weten we hoe we moeten leven:
in uw licht zien wij het licht.
11 Wees voor altijd goed en vriendelijk
voor de mensen die U kennen.
Wees voor altijd rechtvaardig
voor de mensen die willen leven zoals U het wil.
12 Zorg ervoor dat de mensen die denken dat ze U niet nodig hebben,
mij geen kwaad kunnen doen.
Zorg ervoor dat ik niet voor hen hoef te vluchten.
13 Kijk, de schurken zijn gevallen, verslagen.
Nooit zullen ze meer opstaan.

King James Version
36 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
5 Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.
6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.
12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.

Man’s Wickedness and God’s Perfections
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord.
36 An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked:
(A)There is no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes,
When he finds out his iniquity and when he hates.
3 The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit;
(B)He has ceased to be wise and to do good.
4 (C)He devises wickedness on his bed;
He sets himself (D)in a way that is not good;
He does not [a]abhor (E)evil.
5 Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
6 Your righteousness is like the [b]great mountains;
(F)Your judgments are a great deep;
O Lord, You preserve man and beast.
7 How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore the children of men (G)put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.
8 (H)They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house,
And You give them drink from (I)the river of Your pleasures.
9 (J)For with You is the fountain of life;
(K)In Your light we see light.
10 Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You,
And Your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me,
And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 There the workers of iniquity have fallen;
They have been cast down and are not able to rise.
