Psalm 21[a]
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
2 You have granted him his heart’s desire(C)
and have not withheld the request of his lips.[b]
3 You came to greet him with rich blessings
and placed a crown of pure gold(D) on his head.(E)
4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
length of days, for ever and ever.(F)
5 Through the victories(G) you gave, his glory is great;
you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.(H)
6 Surely you have granted him unending blessings
and made him glad with the joy(I) of your presence.(J)
7 For the king trusts in the Lord;(K)
through the unfailing love(L) of the Most High(M)
he will not be shaken.(N)
8 Your hand will lay hold(O) on all your enemies;
your right hand will seize your foes.
9 When you appear for battle,
you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
and his fire will consume them.(P)
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
their posterity from mankind.(Q)
11 Though they plot evil(R) against you
and devise wicked schemes,(S) they cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs(T)
when you aim at them with drawn bow.

21 «Al maestro del coro. Salmo di Davide» O Eterno, il re si rallegrerà nella tua forza, e quanto esulterà per la tua salvezza!
2 Tu gli hai concesso il desiderio del suo cuore e non gli hai rifiutato la richiesta delle sue labbra. (Sela)
3 Poiché tu gli sei venuto incontro con benedizioni di prosperità, gli hai posto sul capo una corona d'oro finissimo.
4 Egli ti aveva chiesto vita e tu gli hai dato lunghi giorni in eterno.
5 Grande è la sua gloria per la tua salvezza; tu gli hai conferito maestà e gloria,
6 perché lo rendi grandemente benedetto per sempre, ricolmi di gioia alla tua presenza.
7 Poiché il re confida nell'Eterno e nella benignità dell'Altissimo, non sarà mai smosso.
8 La tua mano raggiungerà tutti i tuoi nemici la tua destra raggiungerà quelli che ti odiano.
9 Tu li renderai come un forno ardente, quando apparirai adirato, nella sua ira l'Eterno li inabisserà, e il fuoco li divorerà.
10 Tu farai perire il loro frutto dalla terra e la loro progenie tra i figli degli uomini,
11 perché hanno ordito del male contro di te e hanno ideato piani malvagi, ma non riusciranno.
12 Poiché tu farai voltar loro le spalle e punterai le frecce del tuo arco contro la loro faccia.
13 Innalzati, o Eterno, con la tua forza; noi canteremo e celebreremo le lodi della tua potenza.
