Psalm 143
1 Een lied van David.
Heer, luister naar mijn gebed,
hoor hoe ik U om hulp smeek.
Antwoord mij, want U bent trouw en rechtvaardig.
2 Veroordeel mij niet, Heer.
Voor U is immers niemand helemaal onschuldig.
3 Mijn vijanden vertrappen me.
Ze trappen me de grond in.
Ik voel me alsof ik zit opgesloten in het donker,
bij de doden in het dodenrijk.
4 Daarom ga ik bijna dood van ellende.
Ik ben helemaal wanhopig.
5 Ik denk aan vroeger,
aan wat U toen allemaal heeft gedaan.
6 Ik steek mijn handen naar U uit.
Ik verlang naar U,
zoals droog land verlangt naar water.
7 Antwoord mij gauw, Heer, want ik kán niet meer.
Laat me niet in de steek, want dan zal ik sterven.
8 Laat elke ochtend uw stem horen
als U vol liefde tot me spreekt.
Heer, ik vertrouw op U.
Laat me weten wat ik moet doen,
want ik vertrouw op U.
9 Red me van mijn vijanden, Heer.
Ik vlucht naar U toe.
10 Leer me om te doen wat U wil,
want U bent mijn God.
Geef me door uw goede Geest weer rust en vrede.
11 Red mijn leven, Heer, om wie U bent.
Red me uit mijn moeilijkheden, omdat U rechtvaardig bent.
12 Dood mijn vijanden, omdat U van mij houdt.
Vernietig alle mensen die mij bedreigen.
Want ik ben uw dienaar.

143 Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.
2 And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
3 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.
4 Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.
5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.
6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.
7 Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.
9 Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.
10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
11 Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.
12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

1 Lord, hear my prayer,(A)
listen to my cry for mercy;(B)
in your faithfulness(C) and righteousness(D)
come to my relief.
2 Do not bring your servant into judgment,
for no one living is righteous(E) before you.
3 The enemy pursues me,
he crushes me to the ground;
he makes me dwell in the darkness(F)
like those long dead.(G)
4 So my spirit grows faint within me;
my heart within me is dismayed.(H)
5 I remember(I) the days of long ago;
I meditate(J) on all your works
and consider what your hands have done.
6 I spread out my hands(K) to you;
I thirst for you like a parched land.[a]
7 Answer me quickly,(L) Lord;
my spirit fails.(M)
Do not hide your face(N) from me
or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,(O)
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way(P) I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.(Q)
9 Rescue me(R) from my enemies,(S) Lord,
for I hide myself in you.
10 Teach me(T) to do your will,
for you are my God;(U)
may your good Spirit
