Lömska fienders angrepp
1-2 Herre, rädda mig från onda människor. Skydda mig från dessa våldsamma män,
3 som dagligen kommer tillsammans för att strida mot mig.
4 Deras elaka ord känns som giftiga ormbett.
5 Tillåt inte att jag hamnar i deras våld. Skydda mig, Herre, för med alla medel försöker de att få mig på fall.
6 I hemlighet har dessa människor, som förhäver sig, lagt ut fällor för att fånga mig. Överallt måste jag räkna med att de gömmer sig med ett nät, som de tänker kasta över mig för att jag ska trassla in mig i dess maskor.
7-9 Herre, min Herre och Frälsare, du är min Gud och min beskyddare! Lyssna till mig när jag ropar på hjälp! Låt inte dessa ogudaktiga människor lyckas! Sätt stopp för deras planer, så att de inte blir högfärdiga!
10 Låt olyckan i stället drabba dem! Låt det onda som de har planerat för mig utplåna dem själva!
11 Låt brinnande kol falla på deras huvuden och kasta ner dem i djupa hålor, från vilka de inte kan ta sig upp och fly sin väg!
12 Låt dem som talar illa om andra inte ha framgång här i landet! Straffa dem snabbt!
13 Herre, jag vet att du ska hjälpa dem som är förtryckta, och att du kommer att försvara de fattigas rättigheter.
14 De rättfärdiga kommer då att tacka dig, och de ska leva i din närhet.

For the director of music. A psalm of David.
1 Rescue me,(A) Lord, from evildoers;
protect me from the violent,(B)
2 who devise evil plans(C) in their hearts
and stir up war(D) every day.
3 They make their tongues as sharp as(E) a serpent’s;
the poison of vipers(F) is on their lips.[b]
4 Keep me safe,(G) Lord, from the hands of the wicked;(H)
protect me from the violent,
who devise ways to trip my feet.
5 The arrogant have hidden a snare(I) for me;
they have spread out the cords of their net(J)
and have set traps(K) for me along my path.
6 I say to the Lord, “You are my God.”(L)
Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy.(M)
7 Sovereign Lord,(N) my strong deliverer,
you shield my head in the day of battle.
8 Do not grant the wicked(O) their desires, Lord;
do not let their plans succeed.

140 Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;
2 Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.
3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.
4 Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.
5 The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.
6 I said unto the Lord, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O Lord.
7 O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.
8 Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.
9 As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
11 Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.
12 I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
