Psalm 127
God’s Blessings in the Home
A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord guards the city,
the guard keeps watch in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives sleep to his beloved.[a]
3 Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the sons of one’s youth.
5 Happy is the man who has
his quiver full of them.
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

127 (A)Canto dei pellegrinaggi.
Di Salomone.
Se il Signore non costruisce la casa,
invano si affaticano i costruttori;
se il Signore non protegge la città,
invano vegliano le guardie.
2 Invano vi alzate di buon mattino
e tardi andate a riposare e mangiate pane tribolato;
egli dà altrettanto a quelli che ama, mentre essi dormono[a].
3 Ecco, i figli sono un dono che viene dal Signore;
il frutto del grembo materno è un premio.
4 Come frecce nelle mani di un prode,
così sono i figli della giovinezza.
5 Beati coloro che ne hanno piena la faretra!
Non saranno confusi quando discuteranno
con i loro nemici alla porta.
