Psalm 120

A song of ascents.

I call on the Lord(A) in my distress,(B)
    and he answers me.
Save me, Lord,
    from lying lips(C)
    and from deceitful tongues.(D)

What will he do to you,
    and what more besides,
    you deceitful tongue?
He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows,(E)
with burning coals of the broom bush.

Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
that I live among the tents of Kedar!(F)
Too long have I lived
    among those who hate peace.
I am for peace;
but when I speak, they are for war.

Bön om hjälp mot lögnare

120 En pilgrimssång[a].

Jag ropar till Herren i min nöd,
    och han svarar mig.
Herre, rädda min själ
    från lögnaktiga läppar,
        från falska tungor!
[b]Vad ska han ge dig,
och vad mer ska du få,
        du falska tunga?
[c]Krigarens skarpa pilar
    och glödande ginstkol[d].

Ve mig som bor i Mesheks land,
    som lever bland Kedars hyddor![e]
Länge nog har min själ bott
    bland dem som hatar frid.
Jag vill ha frid,
    men säger jag ett ord
        är de redo till strid.

120 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

Plea for Relief from Bitter Foes

A Song of Ascents.

120 In (A)my distress I cried to the Lord,
And He heard me.
Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips
And from a deceitful tongue.

What shall be given to you,
Or what shall be done to you,
You false tongue?
Sharp arrows of the [a]warrior,
With coals of the broom tree!

Woe is me, that I dwell in (B)Meshech,
(C)That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
My soul has dwelt too long
With one who hates peace.
I am for peace;
But when I speak, they are for war.
