Psalm 10
1 Heer, waarom bent U zo ver weg?
Waarom verbergt U Zich juist nu ik U zo hard nodig heb?
2 De mensen die zich niets van U aantrekken,
denken dat ze ongestraft arme mensen slecht kunnen behandelen.
Heer, zorg ervoor dat zij zelf worden verstrikt
in de slechte dingen die ze met anderen van plan waren.
3 Ze scheppen op over alles wat ze hebben bereikt.
Ze vinden hebzucht een goede eigenschap
en zeggen slechte dingen over God.
4 Ze steken trots hun neus in de lucht.
Ze zeggen: "Er is geen God. Ons kan niets gebeuren."
Ze denken er verder niet over na.
5 Ze doen wat ze willen en veroorzaken niets dan ellende.
Ze denken er niet aan dat U hen ooit zal oordelen.
Ze bedreigen hun vijanden.
6 Ze zeggen bij zichzelf: "Wat kan mij gebeuren?
Met mij en mijn familie ná mij zal het altijd goed blijven gaan."
7 Ze vervloeken, liegen en bedriegen.
Altijd smeden ze misdadige plannen.
8 Ze liggen in hinderlagen langs stille wegen.
Op stille plaatsen doden ze onschuldige mensen.
Ze loeren op weerloze mensen.
9 Ze liggen in de struiken op de loer,
zoals een leeuw die zijn prooi besluipt.
Ze loeren op arme mensen.
Ze vangen hen in hun net en trekken het dicht.
10 Ze bukken zich, klaar voor de sprong –
en ze hebben hun slachtoffers in hun klauwen.
11 Ze zeggen bij zichzelf: "God vergeet het.
Het maakt Hem niets uit.
Hij ziet het niet eens."
12 Kom Heer! God, doe er iets aan!
Denk alstublieft aan de arme mensen!
13 Maakt het U dan niets uit
dat mensen zich niets van U aantrekken?
Dat ze zeggen: "Het maakt God niets uit wat ik doe"?
14 Maar U ziet het, want U ziet alle ellende en verdriet.
U zal het bestraffen.
Mensen in nood vertrouwen op U.
Weeskinderen worden door U geholpen.
15 Maak een einde aan de macht van slechte mensen.
Straf hen voor hun slechte daden.
Laat niets van hen over!
16 U bent voor eeuwig Koning.
De volken die U niet gehoorzamen, verjaagt U uit uw land.
17 Heer, U heeft gehoord waar de arme mensen naar verlangen.
U luistert naar hen en geeft hen weer hoop.
18 U komt op voor mensen in nood.
Daarom zullen de mensen hen niet langer durven bedreigen.

Dios Habla Hoy
Oración pidiendo la ayuda de Dios
10 Señor, ¿por qué te quedas tan lejos?,
¿por qué te escondes en tiempos de angustia?
2 Con altanería, el malvado
persigue rabiosamente al humilde;
pero ha de quedar atrapado
en las trampas que él mismo ha puesto.
3 El malvado se jacta de sus propios deseos;
el ambicioso maldice y desprecia al Señor.
4 Levanta insolente la nariz, y dice:
«No hay Dios. No hay quien me pida cuentas.»
Eso es todo lo que piensa.
5 Siempre tiene éxito en lo que hace.
Para él, tus juicios están lejos,
muy lejos de su vista.
Se burla de sus enemigos,
6 y piensa que nadie lo hará caer,
que jamás tendrá problemas.
7 Su boca está llena de maldiciones,
de mentiras y de ofensas;
sus palabras ocultan opresión y maldad.
8 Se pone al acecho, por las aldeas,
y a escondidas mata al inocente.
No pierde de vista al indefenso:
9 como si fuera un león en su cueva,
espía al pobre desde su escondite,
esperando el momento de caer sobre él,
y cuando lo atrapa, lo arrastra en su red.
10 Se agacha, se encoge,
y caen en sus garras los indefensos.
11 El malvado cree que Dios se olvida,
que se tapa la cara y que nunca ve nada.
12 ¡Levántate, Señor, levanta tu brazo!
¡No olvides a los afligidos!
13 ¿Por qué, Dios mío, han de burlarse los malos,
pensando que no habrás de pedirles cuentas?
14 Tú mismo has visto su irritante maldad;
¡la has visto, y les darás su merecido!
A ti se acogen los indefensos;
tú eres la ayuda de los huérfanos.
15 ¡Rómpeles el brazo a los malvados!
¡Pídeles cuentas de su maldad
hasta que no quede nada pendiente!
16 El Señor es el Rey eterno;
¡los paganos serán echados de su país!
17 Señor, tú escuchas la oración de los humildes,
tú los animas y los atiendes.
18 Haz justicia al huérfano y al oprimido:
¡que el hombre, hecho de tierra,
no vuelva a sembrar el terror!

A prayer for help[a]
10 Must you stand so far away, Lord?
Why do you hide when there is trouble?
2 Wicked people are cruel to poor people.
They use their evil ideas
to take hold of weak people.
3 Not only do wicked people boast
because they get the things that they want.
They also praise robbers,
and they curse the Lord.
4 Wicked people are too proud to worry about God.
They think, ‘God will not give me any trouble.’
5 Often the wicked person seems to have success.
He does not respect your commands, God.
He laughs at all his enemies.
6 He says to himself, ‘There will be no trouble for me.
Nothing bad will ever happen to me or to my children.’
7 Plenty of lies come from his mouth,
and he curses people.
The bad words that he speaks are very cruel,
and they hurt people.
8 He hides near the villages,
so that he can jump out and catch people.
He watches in secret to find a weak person that he can kill.
He murders people who have done nothing wrong.
9 Quietly, he hides like a lion among some bushes.
He waits there to catch a poor, weak person.
Like a hunter, he catches poor people in his net.
10 He stamps on the people that he catches,
and he knocks them down to the ground.
The weak person falls down,
because the wicked person is too strong.
11 The wicked person says to himself,
‘God will give me no trouble!
He does not even see what I do.’
12 Rise up, Lord!
Do something, God,
and knock down the wicked person!
Do not forget to help weak people.
13 Why do wicked people insult God?
They say to themselves,
‘God will not give me any trouble.’
14 Surely, God, you see what is happening.
You see how wicked people bring pain and trouble.
You decide what to do about it.
The weak person trusts that you will help him.
You take care of children who have no father.
15 Take hold of the arm of the wicked, evil man!
Break it and take away his strength!
Punish him for the bad things that he has done,
so that he has to stop.
16 The Lord will rule as king for ever!
The nations who do not serve him
will not remain in his land.
17 You, Lord, hear the prayers
of people who are suffering.
When they ask you to help them,
you make them feel strong.
18 You stand beside those who have no father,
and those who are poor and weak.
As a result, they will no longer be afraid.
No human on the earth can frighten them.
