上帝的美善
大衛在亞比米勒面前裝瘋，被趕出去後，作了此詩。
34 我要常常稱頌耶和華，
時刻讚美祂。
2 我要誇耀祂的作為，
困苦人聽見必歡欣。
3 讓我們一同頌讚祂的偉大，
尊崇祂的名！
4 我向祂禱告，祂便應允我，
救我脫離一切恐懼。
5 凡仰望祂的必有榮光，
不致蒙羞。
6 我這可憐的人向祂呼求，
祂就垂聽，
救我脫離一切困境。
7 祂的天使必四面保護敬畏祂的人，拯救他們。
8 你們要親身體驗，
就知道耶和華的美善；
投靠祂的人有福了！
9 耶和華的聖民啊，
你們要敬畏祂，
因為敬畏祂的人一無所缺。
10 壯獅也會忍饑挨餓，
但尋求耶和華的人什麼福分都不缺。
11 孩子們啊，聽我說，
我要教導你們敬畏耶和華。
12 若有人熱愛生命，
渴望長壽和幸福，
13 就要舌頭不出惡言，
嘴唇不說詭詐的話。
14 要棄惡行善，
竭力追求和睦。
15 耶和華的眼睛看顧義人，
祂的耳朵垂聽他們的呼求。
16 耶和華嚴懲作惡之人，
從世上剷除他們。
17 義人向耶和華呼救，祂就垂聽，
拯救他們脫離一切患難。
18 祂安慰悲痛欲絕的人，
拯救心靈破碎的人。
19 義人也會遭遇許多患難，
但耶和華必拯救他，
20 保全他一身的骨頭，
連一根也不折斷。
21 惡人必遭惡報，
與義人為敵的必被定罪。
22 耶和華必救贖祂的僕人，
投靠祂的人必不被定罪。

Psalm 34[a][b]
Of David. When he pretended to be insane(A) before Abimelek, who drove him away, and he left.
1 I will extol the Lord at all times;(B)
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 I will glory(C) in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.(D)
3 Glorify the Lord(E) with me;
let us exalt(F) his name together.
4 I sought the Lord,(G) and he answered me;
he delivered(H) me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;(I)
their faces are never covered with shame.(J)
6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.(K)
7 The angel of the Lord(L) encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers(M) them.
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;(N)
blessed is the one who takes refuge(O) in him.
9 Fear the Lord,(P) you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.(Q)
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.(R)
11 Come, my children, listen(S) to me;
I will teach you(T) the fear of the Lord.(U)
12 Whoever of you loves life(V)
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue(W) from evil
and your lips from telling lies.(X)
14 Turn from evil and do good;(Y)
seek peace(Z) and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord(AA) are on the righteous,(AB)
and his ears are attentive(AC) to their cry;
16 but the face of the Lord is against(AD) those who do evil,(AE)
to blot out their name(AF) from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears(AG) them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close(AH) to the brokenhearted(AI)
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

34 Een lied van David, gemaakt nadat hij zich bij Abimelech gedroeg als een krankzinnige, waardoor deze hem wegstuurde en hij ontkwam.
2 Ik wil de Here voortdurend prijzen,
mijn mond moet steeds overlopen van zijn eer.
3 Mijn hele wezen beroemt zich op Hem,
laten allen die bij Hem horen, zich met mij verheugen.
4 Laten wij samen de Here grootmaken
en zijn naam eren en prijzen.
5 Toen ik de Here zocht,
heeft Hij mij geantwoord.
Hij heeft mij uit mijn vreselijke kwelling gered.
6 Wie naar Hem opziet,
straalt van vreugde
en kan Hem met blijdschap aanzien.
7 Ik was er zo ellendig aan toe,
maar toen ik naar de Here riep,
heeft Hij naar mij geluisterd.
Hij verloste mij uit alle ellende.
8 De Engel van de Here
staat hen die ontzag voor Hem hebben, altijd bij
en verlost hen.
9 Probeer het maar,
dan zult u ontdekken hoe goed de Here is.
Gelukkig is degene die bij Hem bescherming zoekt.
10 Heb diep ontzag voor de Here, alle gelovigen!
Want wie Hem dienen,
zullen nooit gebrek lijden.
11 Zelfs sterke jonge leeuwen
komen wel eens om van de honger,
maar wie de Here zoekt,
komt niets tekort.
12 Kom maar, kinderen,
en luister goed naar mij:
ik zal u leren wat het betekent
ontzag te hebben voor de Here.
13 Wie van u houdt van het leven
en wil graag gelukkig zijn?
14 Houd dan uw tong in bedwang
en laat geen leugen over uw lippen komen.
15 Keer het kwaad de rug toe
en doe wat goed is.
Probeer in vrede te leven,
streef daarnaar met heel uw hart.
16 De Here laat voortdurend
zijn oog rusten op zijn volgelingen,
zijn oren horen elk hulpgeroep.
17 Maar de Here keert Zich
tegen hen die zondigen,
van hen wil Hij niets meer weten.
18 Wanneer zijn kinderen roepen,
luistert de Here,
Hij bevrijdt hen uit elke moeilijke situatie.
19 De Here is heel dicht bij mensen met groot verdriet,
Hij helpt hen die terneergeslagen zijn.
20 Vele zorgen en problemen kunnen de gelovige treffen,
maar de Here zal altijd voor uitredding zorgen.
21 Hij beschermt zijn gebeente,
er zal geen bot worden gebroken.
22 De ongelovige zal sterven door het onheil
en wie Gods kinderen haten, zullen daarvoor boeten.
23 De Here bevrijdt zijn volgelingen
en iemand die bij Hem bescherming zoekt,
zal niet worden gestraft.

34 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.
11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
22 The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.
