Who Can Stand Before You?

To the choirmaster: with (A)stringed instruments. A Psalm of (B)Asaph. A Song.

76 In Judah God is (C)known;
    his name is great in Israel.
His (D)abode has been established in (E)Salem,
    his (F)dwelling place in Zion.
There he (G)broke the flashing arrows,
    the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah

Glorious are you, more majestic
    (H)than the mountains full of (I)prey.
(J)The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil;
    (K)they sank into sleep;
all the men of war
    were unable to use their hands.
At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
    both (L)rider and horse lay stunned.

(M)But you, you are to be feared!
    Who can (N)stand before you
    when once your anger is roused?
From the heavens you uttered judgment;
    (O)the earth feared and was still,
when God (P)arose to establish judgment,
    to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

10 Surely (Q)the wrath of man shall praise you;
    the remnant[a] of wrath you will put on like a belt.
11 (R)Make your vows to the Lord your God and perform them;
    let all around him (S)bring gifts
    to him who (T)is to be feared,
12 who (U)cuts off the spirit of princes,
    who (V)is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

The Humble and Contrite in Spirit

66 (A)Thus says the Lord:
(B)“Heaven is my throne,
    and the earth is my footstool;
what is the house that you would build for me,
    and what is the place of my rest?
(C)All these things my hand has made,
    and so all these things came to be,
declares the Lord.
(D)But this is the one to whom I will look:
    he who is humble and contrite in spirit
    and trembles at my word.

(E)“He who slaughters an ox is like one who kills a man;
    he who sacrifices a lamb, like one who breaks a dog's neck;
he who presents a grain offering, like one who offers (F)pig's blood;
    he who makes a memorial offering of frankincense, like one who blesses an idol.
(G)These have chosen their own ways,
    and their soul delights in their abominations;
(H)I also will choose harsh treatment for them
    and bring (I)their fears upon them,
(J)because when I called, no one answered,
    when I spoke, they did not listen;
(K)but they did what was evil in my eyes
    and chose that in which I did not delight.”

Hear the word of the Lord,
    you who tremble at his word:
“Your brothers who hate you
    and cast you out for my name's sake
have said, (L)‘Let the Lord be glorified,
    that we may see your joy’;
    but it is they who shall be put to shame.

“The sound of an uproar from the city!
    A sound from the temple!
The sound of the Lord,
    (M)rendering recompense to his enemies!

Rejoice with Jerusalem

(N)“Before she was in labor
    she gave birth;
before her pain came upon her
    she delivered a son.
Who has heard such a thing?
    Who has seen such things?
Shall a land be born in one day?
    Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment?
For (O)as soon as Zion was in labor
    she brought forth her children.
Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause to bring forth?”
    says the Lord;
“shall I, who cause to bring forth, shut the womb?”
    says your God.

10 (P)“Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her,
    all you who love her;
rejoice with her in joy,
    all you who mourn over her;
11 that you may nurse and be satisfied
    from her consoling breast;
that you may drink deeply with delight
    from her glorious abundance.”[a]

12 For thus says the Lord:
(Q)“Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river,
    and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream;
and (R)you shall nurse, you shall be carried upon her hip,
    and bounced upon her knees.
13 As one whom his mother comforts,
    so (S)I will comfort you;
    you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

Do All to the Glory of God

23 (A)“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. 24 (B)Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25 (C)Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26 For (D)“the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.” 27 If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, (E)eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— 29 I do not mean (F)your conscience, but his. For (G)why should my liberty be determined by someone else's conscience? 30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that (H)for which I give thanks?

31 So, whether you eat or drink, or (I)whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 (J)Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to (K)the church of God, 33 just as (L)I try to please everyone in everything I do, (M)not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.

11 (N)Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
