Lamentations 2:8-10

⁸The Lord has ^[a]purposed to destroy
The ^(A)wall of the daughter of Zion.
^(B)He has stretched out a line;
He has not withdrawn His hand from destroying;
Therefore He has caused the rampart and wall to lament;
They languished together.

⁹Her gates have sunk into the ground;
He has destroyed and ^(C)broken her bars.
^(D)Her king and her princes are among the ^[b]nations;
^(E)The Law is no more,
And her ^(F)prophets find no ^[c]vision from the Lord.

¹⁰The elders of the daughter of Zion
^(G)Sit on the ground and keep silence;
^[d]They ^(H)throw dust on their heads
And ^(I)gird themselves with sackcloth.
The virgins of Jerusalem
Bow their heads to the ground.

⁸The Lord determined to tear down
    the wall around Daughter Zion.^(A)
He stretched out a measuring line^(B)
    and did not withhold his hand from destroying.
He made ramparts^(C) and walls lament;
    together they wasted away.^(D)

⁹Her gates^(E) have sunk into the ground;
    their bars^(F) he has broken and destroyed.
Her king and her princes are exiled^(G) among the nations,
    the law^(H) is no more,
and her prophets^(I) no longer find
    visions^(J) from the Lord.

¹⁰The elders of Daughter Zion
    sit on the ground in silence;^(K)
they have sprinkled dust^(L) on their heads^(M)
    and put on sackcloth.^(N)
The young women of Jerusalem
    have bowed their heads to the ground.^(O)
