Profecia contra os amonitas
49 Contra os filhos de Amom. Assim diz o Senhor: Acaso, não tem filhos Israel, nem tem herdeiros? Por que, pois, herdou Malcã a Gade, e o seu povo habitou nas suas cidades? 2 Portanto, eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que farei ouvir em Rabá dos filhos de Amom o alarido de guerra, e tornar-se-á num montão de ruínas, e os lugares da sua jurisdição serão queimados; e Israel herdará aqueles que o herdaram, diz o Senhor. 3 Uiva, ó Hesbom, porque é destruída Ai; clamai, ó filhas de Rabá, cingi-vos de panos de saco, lamentai e dai voltas pelos valados, porque Malcã irá em cativeiro, e os seus sacerdotes e os seus príncipes juntamente. 4 Por que te glorias nos vales, teus luxuriantes vales, ó filha rebelde, que confias nos teus tesouros, dizendo: Quem virá contra mim? 5 Eis que eu trarei temor sobre ti, diz o Senhor Jeová dos Exércitos, de todos os que estão ao redor de ti; e sereis lançados fora, cada um em frente, e ninguém recolherá o desgarrado. 6 Mas, depois disto, farei voltar os cativos dos filhos de Amom, diz o Senhor.
Profecia contra os edomitas
7 Contra Edom. Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Acaso, não há mais sabedoria em Temã? Já pereceu o conselho dos sábios? Corrompeu-se a sua sabedoria? 8 Fugi, voltai e habitai em profundezas, ó moradores de Dedã, porque eu trouxe sobre ele a ruína de Esaú, no tempo em que o visitei. 9 Se vindimadores viessem a ti, não deixariam alguns rabiscos? Se ladrões, de noite, não te danificariam quanto julgassem suficiente? 10 Mas eu despi a Esaú, descobri os seus esconderijos, e não se poderá esconder; é destruída a sua descendência, como também seus irmãos e seus vizinhos, e ele já não existe. 11 Deixa os teus órfãos; eu os guardarei em vida; e as tuas viúvas confiarão em mim. 12 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Eis que aqueles que não estavam condenados a beber o copo totalmente o beberão, e tu ficarias inteiramente impune? Não ficarás impune, mas, certamente, o beberás. 13 Porque por mim mesmo jurei, diz o Senhor, que Bozra servirá de espanto, de opróbrio, de assolação e de execração; e todas as suas cidades se tornarão em assolações perpétuas.
14 Ouvi um rumor vindo do Senhor, que um embaixador é enviado às nações, para lhes dizer: Ajuntai-vos, e vinde contra ela, e levantai-vos para a guerra. 15 Porque eis que te fiz pequeno entre as nações, desprezado entre os homens. 16 Quanto à tua terribilidade, a arrogância do teu coração te enganou. Tu, que habitas nas cavernas das rochas, que ocupas as alturas dos outeiros, ainda que eleves o teu ninho como a águia, de lá te derribarei, diz o Senhor.
17 Assim servirá Edom de espanto; todo aquele que passar por ele se espantará e assobiará por causa de todas as suas pragas. 18 Será como a destruição de Sodoma e Gomorra e dos seus vizinhos, diz o Senhor; não habitará ninguém ali, nem morará nela filho de homem. 19 Eis que, como leão, subirá da enchente do Jordão contra a morada do forte; porque, num momento, o farei correr dali; e quem é o escolhido que porei sobre ela? Porque quem é semelhante a mim? E quem me emprazaria? E quem é o pastor que subsistiria perante mim?
20 Portanto, ouvi o conselho do Senhor, que ele decretou contra Edom, e os seus desígnios, que ele intentou contra os moradores de Temã; certamente, os menores do rebanho os arrastarão; certamente, assolará as suas moradas sobre eles. 21 A terra estremeceu com o estrondo da sua queda; e do seu grito até ao mar Vermelho se ouviu o som. 22 Eis que, como águia, subirá, e voará, e estenderá as asas sobre Bozra; e o coração dos valentes de Edom, naquele dia, será como o coração da mulher que está em suas dores.
Profecia contra Damasco
23 Contra Damasco. Envergonhou-se Hamate e Arpade e, porquanto ouviram más novas, desmaiaram; no mar há angústia; não se pode sossegar. 24 Enfraquecida está Damasco; virou as costas para fugir, e tremor a tomou; angústia e dores a tomaram como da mulher que está de parto. 25 Como não está abandonada a afamada cidade, a cidade de meu folguedo? 26 Portanto, cairão os seus jovens nas suas ruas; e todos os homens de guerra serão consumidos naquele dia, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos. 27 E acenderei fogo no muro de Damasco, o qual consumirá os palácios de Ben-Hadade.
Profecia contra a Arábia
28 Contra Quedar e contra os reinos de Hazor, que Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, feriu. Assim diz o Senhor: Levantai-vos, subi contra Quedar e destruí os filhos do Oriente. 29 Tomarão as suas tendas, e os seus gados, as suas cortinas, e todos os seus utensílios, e os seus camelos levarão para si; e lhes gritarão: Há medo de todos os lados! 30 Fugi, desviai-vos para mui longe e habitai nas profundezas, ó moradores de Hazor, diz o Senhor, porque Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, tomou conselho contra vós e intentou um desígnio contra vós. 31 Levantai-vos e subi contra uma nação em repouso, que habita confiadamente, diz o Senhor; que não tem portas, nem ferrolhos; eles habitam sós. 32 E os seus camelos serão para presa, e a multidão dos seus gados, para despojo; e espalharei a todo vento, aqueles que têm cortados os cantos do seu cabelo, e de todos os lados lhes trarei a sua ruína, diz o Senhor. 33 E Hazor se tornará em morada de dragões, em assolação para sempre; ninguém habitará ali, nem morará nela filho de homem.

34 Palavra do Senhor que veio a Jeremias, o profeta, contra Elão, no princípio do reinado de Zedequias, rei de Judá, dizendo: 35 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Eis que eu quebrarei o arco de Elão, o principal do seu poder. 36 E trarei sobre Elão os quatro ventos dos quatro ângulos do céu e os espalharei na direção de todos estes ventos; e não haverá nação aonde não venham os fugitivos de Elão. 37 E farei que Elão tema diante de seus inimigos e diante dos que procuram a sua morte; e farei vir sobre eles o mal, o furor da minha ira, diz o Senhor; e enviarei após eles a espada, até que venha a consumi-los. 38 E porei o meu trono em Elão; e destruirei dali o rei e príncipes, diz o Senhor. 39 Acontecerá, porém, no último dos dias, que farei voltar os cativos de Elão, diz o Senhor.

Mensagem a respeito de Amom
49 Esta é a mensagem acerca dos amonitas. Assim diz o Senhor:
“Acaso não há descendentes de Israel
para herdar a terra de Gade?
Por que vocês, que adoram Moloque,[a]
habitam nas cidades de Gade?
2 Está chegando o dia”, diz o Senhor,
“em que farei soar o grito de guerra contra a cidade de Rabá.
Ela se tornará um monte de ruínas,
e os povoados vizinhos serão queimados.
Então Israel tomará de volta
as terras que vocês tiraram dele”, diz o Senhor.
3 “Grite, ó Hesbom,
pois a cidade de Ai está destruída.
Chorem, ó habitantes de Rabá,
e vistam roupas de luto.
Lamentem e escondam-se entre os muros,
pois seu deus, Moloque, será levado para terras distantes,
junto com seus sacerdotes e oficiais.
4 Você se orgulha de seus vales férteis,
ó filha rebelde.
Confiou em suas riquezas
e pensou que ninguém jamais lhe faria mal.
5 Mas eu trarei terror sobre você”,
diz o Soberano, o Senhor dos Exércitos.
“Seus vizinhos a expulsarão de sua terra,
e ninguém ajudará seus habitantes quando fugirem.
6 No futuro, porém,
restaurarei a situação dos amonitas.
Eu, o Senhor, falei.”
Mensagem a respeito de Edom
7 Esta é a mensagem acerca de Edom. Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos:
“Não há sabedoria em Temã?
Não resta ninguém para dar bons conselhos?
Sua sabedoria desapareceu?
8 Deem meia-volta e fujam!
Escondam-se em cavernas profundas, ó habitantes de Dedã!
Pois, quando eu trouxer calamidade sobre Edom,[b]
castigarei vocês também.
9 Aqueles que colhem uvas
sempre deixam algumas para os pobres.
Se ladrões viessem à noite,
não levariam tudo.
10 Mas eu despojarei completamente a terra de Edom,
e não restará lugar algum para se esconder.
Seus filhos, irmãos e vizinhos
serão todos destruídos,
e Edom deixará de existir.
11 Protegerei, contudo, os órfãos que restarem em seu meio,
e as viúvas também podem esperar minha ajuda”.
12 Assim diz o Senhor: “Se os inocentes têm de sofrer, quanto mais vocês! Não ficarão impunes; também beberão deste cálice. 13 Pois jurei por meu próprio nome”, diz o Senhor, “que Bozra se tornará objeto de horror e um monte de ruínas; será motivo de zombaria e maldição. Todas as suas cidades ficarão desoladas para sempre.”
14 Ouvi uma mensagem do Senhor,
que um embaixador foi enviado às nações para dizer:
“Formem uma coalizão contra Edom
e preparem-se para a batalha!”.
15 Assim diz o Senhor a Edom:
“Eu a tornarei pequena entre as nações;
será desprezada por todos.
16 Você foi iludida pelo medo que provoca
e por seu orgulho.
Vive numa fortaleza de pedra
e controla os altos dos montes.
Mas ainda que faça seu ninho nas alturas com as águias,
eu a derrubarei”,
diz o Senhor.
17 “Edom será objeto de horror;
todos que passarem por ela ficarão pasmos
e abrirão a boca de espanto quando virem suas ruínas.
18 Será como a destruição de Sodoma e Gomorra
e de suas cidades vizinhas”, diz o Senhor.
“Ninguém viverá ali,
ninguém habitará nela.
19 Virei como um leão da mata do Jordão
que ataca as ovelhas no pasto.
Expulsarei Edom de sua terra
e ali colocarei o líder que eu escolher.
Pois quem é semelhante a mim e quem pode me desafiar?
Que governante pode se opor à minha vontade?”
20 Ouçam o que o Senhor planejou contra Edom
e contra os habitantes de Temã.
Até as crianças serão arrastadas como ovelhas,
e suas casas, destruídas.
21 A terra tremerá com o estrondo da queda de Edom,
e até do mar Vermelho[c] se ouvirá seu clamor.
22 Veja, o inimigo desce veloz, como águia,
e abre suas asas sobre Bozra!
Até os guerreiros mais valentes ficarão em agonia,
como a mulher em trabalho de parto.
Mensagem a respeito de Damasco
23 Esta é a mensagem acerca de Damasco:
“O medo tomou conta das cidades de Hamate e Arpade,
pois ouviram a notícia de sua destruição.
Seu coração está agitado,
como o mar numa tempestade.
24 Damasco se enfraqueceu,
e todos os seus habitantes se preparam para fugir.
Medo, angústia e dor se apoderam dela,
como da mulher em trabalho de parto.
25 A cidade famosa, antes tão alegre,
será abandonada.
26 Seus jovens cairão nas ruas,
todos os seus soldados serão mortos”,
diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.
27 “Acenderei fogo nos muros de Damasco,
e ele queimará os palácios de Ben-Hadade.”
Mensagem a respeito de Quedar e de Hazor
28 Esta é a mensagem acerca de Quedar e dos reinos de Hazor, que Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, atacou. Assim diz o Senhor:
“Avancem contra Quedar!
Destruam o povo do Oriente!
29 Tomarão seus rebanhos e tendas
e levarão seus bens e camelos.
Por toda parte se ouvirão gritos de pânico:
‘Estamos cercados de terror!’.
30 Corram para salvar a vida”, diz o Senhor.
“Escondam-se em cavernas profundas, habitantes de Hazor,
pois Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia,
está se preparando para destruí-los.
31 “Subam e ataquem essa nação confiante”, diz o Senhor.
“Seu povo vive sozinho no deserto;
não tem muros nem portões.
32 Vocês tomarão como despojo os camelos
e todos os outros animais deles.
Espalharei ao vento essa gente
que vive em lugares distantes.[d]
Trarei calamidade sobre eles
de todos os lados”, diz o Senhor.
33 “Hazor se tornará morada de chacais
e ficará desolada para sempre.
Ninguém viverá ali,
ninguém habitará nela.”
Mensagem a respeito de Elão
34 O profeta Jeremias recebeu esta mensagem do Senhor acerca de Elão no início do reinado de Zedequias, rei de Judá. 35 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos:
“Destruirei os arqueiros de Elão,
os melhores soldados de seus exércitos.
36 Trarei inimigos de todos os lados
e espalharei os habitantes de Elão aos quatro ventos;
serão exilados em nações do mundo inteiro.
37 Irei com os inimigos de Elão para despedaçá-la;
em minha ira ardente, trarei calamidade
sobre os elamitas”, diz o Senhor.
“Seus inimigos os perseguirão com a espada
até que os tenham destruído completamente.
38 Colocarei meu trono em Elão”, diz o Senhor,
“e destruirei seu rei e seus oficiais.
39 No futuro, porém,
restaurarei a situação de Elão.

49 Esta mensagem é sobre os amonitas. Assim diz o SENHOR:
“Por acaso Israel não tem filhos?
Por acaso Israel não tem herdeiro?
Por que o deus Moloque tomou possessão de Gade[a]
e o seu povo vive nas suas cidades?
2 Chegará o dia contra Rabá[b] dos amonitas,
no qual farei soar a trombeta de guerra.
Rabá se converterá em um monte de ruínas
e as suas cidades serão incendiadas.
Então Israel tomará posse
daquilo que eles lhe tiraram.
Eu, o SENHOR, afirmo isso.
3 “Chorem por Hesbom,
porque Ai foi destruída.
Gritem, filhas de Rabá;
vistam-se de luto e lamentem.
Corram de um lado para outro dentro dos muros,
porque Moloque vai ao exílio
junto com os seus sacerdotes e altos ministros.
4 Por que se orgulha da sua força?
Não vê que ela já está acabando?
Filha rebelde que confia nas suas riquezas
e diz: ‘Quem me atacará?’
5 Farei que o terror o cerque por todas partes.
Eu, o SENHOR, o Deus Todo-Poderoso, afirmo isso.
Serão lançados fora todos, cada um pelo seu lado,
e não haverá quem os junte de novo.
6 Mas depois de tudo isso,
darei de volta o que foi tomado dos amonitas.
Eu, o SENHOR, falei isso”.

7 Esta mensagem é sobre os edomitas. O SENHOR Todo-Poderoso diz o seguinte:
“Já não há sabedoria em Temã?
Os inteligentes não podem aconselhar mais?
Será que deixaram de ser sábios?
8 Habitantes de Dedã, fujam
e escondam-se nas profundidades.
Eu estou prestes a castigar Esaú
por todas as coisas más que ele fez.
9 “Se os que colhem uvas viessem até você,
não deixariam uns poucos cachos?
Se ladrões viessem de noite,
não levariam somente o que precisam?
10 Mas eu deixarei sem nada a Esaú,
até deixar ao descoberto os seus esconderijos,
de maneira que não tenha onde se esconder.
Os seus descendentes, a sua família,
e os seus parentes e vizinhos serão destruídos
e ele deixará de existir.
11 Abandone os seus órfãos,
que eu os cuidarei;
e as suas viúvas confiarão em mim”.
12 Porque assim diz o SENHOR:
—Se os que não estavam condenados a beber o cálice do castigo tiveram que bebê-lo, você vai se livrar do castigo? De certo que não ficará sem castigo e você vai também ter que bebê-lo. 13 Prometo por mim mesmo, o SENHOR, que Bozra ficará como um exemplo de horror, humilhação, ruína e maldição. Todas as suas cidades ficarão em ruínas para sempre.
14 Tenho ouvido uma mensagem do SENHOR,
um mensageiro foi enviado para falar às nações:
“Reúnam-se, ataquem Edom,
preparem-se para a guerra”.
15 “Farei com que você se torne insignificante entre as nações
e elas irão desprezar você.
16 Sua grandeza e seu orgulho o enganam.
Você, que habita nas fendas das rochas e nos montes altos,
ainda que como as águias faça os seus ninhos nas alturas,
dali o farei cair.
Eu, o SENHOR, afirmo isso.
17 “Edom será um lugar desolado
e todos os que passem ficarão maravilhados ao ver as suas feridas.
18 Será como aconteceu com Sodoma
e Gomorra e as suas cidades vizinhas
quando foram destruídas.
Nunca mais ninguém morará ali,
nem sequer para se hospedar temporariamente.
Eu, o SENHOR, afirmo isso.
19 “Como um leão que sai dos matagais do rio Jordão
para as verdes pastagens,
assim depressa expulsarei Edom da sua terra.
Nomearei sobre eles a quem eu escolher.
Porque, quem é como eu?
Quem pode me desafiar?
Que pastor pode me enfrentar?”
20 Ouça o plano que o SENHOR tem contra Edom.
Ouça o plano que ele preparou contra os habitantes de Temã.
“Eu prometo que o inimigo vai arrastar os menores do rebanho
e as suas pastagens ficarão desoladas.
21 A terra vai tremer pelo som da sua destruição;
os seus gritos serão ouvidos até no mar Vermelho”.
22 Como uma águia que voa alto
e se lança com as asas abertas,
assim atacará o inimigo a Bozra.
Nesse dia, o coração dos guerreiros de Edom
se angustiará como mulher que está em trabalho de parto.
Mensagem para Damasco
23 Esta mensagem é sobre a cidade de Damasco:
“Hamate e Arpade estão comovidas
pelas más notícias.
Eles se afundaram no medo como o que afunda
num mar enfurecido que ninguém pode acalmar.
24 Damasco está enfraquecida.
Ela tentou fugir mas a dominou o pânico.
Ela foi dominada pela angústia e dor,
como a uma mulher que está em trabalho de parto.
25 Por que não foi abandonada
a cidade tão famosa, que era minha alegria?
26 Nesse dia as suas jovens cairão nas ruas,
todos os seus soldados morrerão.
Eu, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso, afirmo isso.
27 Ascenderei fogo à muralha de Damasco,
e consumirei os palácios de Ben-Hadade[c]”.

28 Mensagem do SENHOR acerca de Quedar e dos reinos de Hazor que Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, atacou:
“Levantem e ataquem Quedar!
Destruam aos povos do Oriente.
29 As suas tendas e rebanhos serão arrebatados
junto com as cortinas das tendas,
seus móveis e os seus camelos.
O povo lhes gritará:
‘Terror por todas partes!’
30 Fujam, escondam-se, habitantes de Hazor!
Eu, o SENHOR, falei isto.
Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia,
tem traçado um plano contra vocês.
31 Vão e ataquem essa nação
que vive tão confiada.
Ela não tem portas nem fechaduras,
seu povo vive isolado.
32 Os seus camelos e grande quantidade de gado
serão o despojo.
Dispersarei em todas as direções
aos que se rapam as têmporas.
De todos lados lhes trarei destruição.
Eu, o SENHOR, afirmo isso.
33 Para sempre Hazor se tornará
num deserto e covil de chacais.
Ninguém viverá de novo ali,
nenhum ser humano se hospedará nela”.

34 Esta foi a mensagem do SENHOR para o profeta Jeremias no que diz respeito a Elão[d]. Ele recebeu esta mensagem no início do reinado de Zedequias, rei de Judá:
35 “Eu, o SENHOR Todo-Poderoso,
quebrarei o arco de Elão,
seu poder maior.
36 Soltarei contra Elão os quatro ventos
desde os quatro pontos cardinais.
Eu os dispersarei pelos quatro ventos.
Os elamitas serão levados cativos para todos os países.
37 Despedaçarei Elão na presença dos seus inimigos,
diante daqueles que os querem matar.
Eu os farei sofrer para que vejam a minha ira
e os perturbarei militarmente até que acabe com eles.
38 Estabelecerei meu trono em Elão
e destruirei o rei e os seus oficiais.
39 Mas no futuro mudarei a sorte de Elão,
eu, o SENHOR, afirmo isso”.

49 Concerning the Ammonites:(A)
This is what the Lord says:
“Has Israel no sons?
Has Israel no heir?
Why then has Molek[a](B) taken possession of Gad?(C)
Why do his people live in its towns?
2 But the days are coming,”
declares the Lord,
“when I will sound the battle cry(D)
against Rabbah(E) of the Ammonites;
it will become a mound of ruins,(F)
and its surrounding villages will be set on fire.
Then Israel will drive out
those who drove her out,(G)”
says the Lord.
3 “Wail, Heshbon,(H) for Ai(I) is destroyed!
Cry out, you inhabitants of Rabbah!
Put on sackcloth(J) and mourn;
rush here and there inside the walls,
for Molek(K) will go into exile,(L)
together with his priests and officials.
4 Why do you boast of your valleys,
boast of your valleys so fruitful?
Unfaithful Daughter Ammon,(M)
you trust in your riches(N) and say,
‘Who will attack me?’(O)
5 I will bring terror on you
from all those around you,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
“Every one of you will be driven away,
and no one will gather the fugitives.(P)
6 “Yet afterward, I will restore(Q) the fortunes of the Ammonites,”
declares the Lord.
A Message About Edom(R)(S)
7 Concerning Edom:(T)
This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“Is there no longer wisdom in Teman?(U)
Has counsel perished from the prudent?
Has their wisdom decayed?
8 Turn and flee, hide in deep caves,(V)
you who live in Dedan,(W)
for I will bring disaster on Esau
at the time when I punish him.
9 If grape pickers came to you,
would they not leave a few grapes?
If thieves came during the night,
would they not steal only as much as they wanted?
10 But I will strip Esau bare;
I will uncover his hiding places,(X)
so that he cannot conceal himself.
His armed men are destroyed,
also his allies and neighbors,
so there is no one(Y) to say,
11 ‘Leave your fatherless children;(Z) I will keep them alive.
Your widows(AA) too can depend on me.’”
12 This is what the Lord says: “If those who do not deserve to drink the cup(AB) must drink it, why should you go unpunished?(AC) You will not go unpunished, but must drink it. 13 I swear(AD) by myself,” declares the Lord, “that Bozrah(AE) will become a ruin and a curse,[b] an object of horror(AF) and reproach;(AG) and all its towns will be in ruins forever.”(AH)
14 I have heard a message from the Lord;
an envoy was sent to the nations to say,
“Assemble yourselves to attack it!
Rise up for battle!”
15 “Now I will make you small among the nations,
despised by mankind.
16 The terror you inspire
and the pride(AI) of your heart have deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks,(AJ)
who occupy the heights of the hill.
Though you build your nest(AK) as high as the eagle’s,
from there I will bring you down,”
declares the Lord.
17 “Edom will become an object of horror;(AL)
all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff
because of all its wounds.(AM)
18 As Sodom(AN) and Gomorrah(AO) were overthrown,
along with their neighboring towns,”
says the Lord,
“so no one will live there;
no people will dwell(AP) in it.
19 “Like a lion(AQ) coming up from Jordan’s thickets(AR)
to a rich pastureland,
I will chase Edom from its land in an instant.
Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?
Who is like(AS) me and who can challenge me?(AT)
And what shepherd(AU) can stand against me?”
20 Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Edom,(AV)
what he has purposed(AW) against those who live in Teman:(AX)
The young of the flock(AY) will be dragged away;
their pasture will be appalled at their fate.(AZ)
21 At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble;(BA)
their cry(BB) will resound to the Red Sea.[c]
22 Look! An eagle will soar and swoop(BC) down,
spreading its wings over Bozrah.(BD)
In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors(BE)
will be like the heart of a woman in labor.(BF)
A Message About Damascus
23 Concerning Damascus:(BG)
“Hamath(BH) and Arpad(BI) are dismayed,
for they have heard bad news.
They are disheartened,
troubled like[d] the restless sea.(BJ)
24 Damascus has become feeble,
she has turned to flee
and panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her,
pain like that of a woman in labor.(BK)
25 Why has the city of renown not been abandoned,
the town in which I delight?
26 Surely, her young men(BL) will fall in the streets;
all her soldiers will be silenced(BM) in that day,”
declares the Lord Almighty.
27 “I will set fire(BN) to the walls of Damascus;(BO)
it will consume(BP) the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.(BQ)”
A Message About Kedar and Hazor
28 Concerning Kedar(BR) and the kingdoms of Hazor,(BS) which Nebuchadnezzar(BT) king of Babylon attacked:
This is what the Lord says:
“Arise, and attack Kedar
and destroy the people of the East.(BU)
29 Their tents and their flocks(BV) will be taken;
their shelters will be carried off
with all their goods and camels.
People will shout to them,
‘Terror(BW) on every side!’
30 “Flee quickly away!
Stay in deep caves,(BX) you who live in Hazor,(BY)”
declares the Lord.
“Nebuchadnezzar(BZ) king of Babylon has plotted against you;
he has devised a plan against you.
31 “Arise and attack a nation at ease,
which lives in confidence,”
declares the Lord,
“a nation that has neither gates nor bars;(CA)
its people live far from danger.
32 Their camels(CB) will become plunder,
and their large herds(CC) will be spoils of war.
I will scatter to the winds(CD) those who are in distant places[e](CE)
and will bring disaster on them from every side,”
declares the Lord.
33 “Hazor(CF) will become a haunt of jackals,(CG)
a desolate(CH) place forever.
No one will live there;
no people will dwell(CI) in it.”
A Message About Elam
34 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam,(CJ) early in the reign of Zedekiah(CK) king of Judah:
35 This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“See, I will break the bow(CL) of Elam,
the mainstay of their might.
36 I will bring against Elam the four winds(CM)
from the four quarters of heaven;(CN)
I will scatter them to the four winds,
and there will not be a nation
where Elam’s exiles do not go.
37 I will shatter Elam before their foes,
before those who want to kill them;
I will bring disaster on them,
even my fierce anger,”(CO)
declares the Lord.
“I will pursue them with the sword(CP)
until I have made an end of them.
38 I will set my throne in Elam
and destroy her king and officials,”
declares the Lord.
39 “Yet I will restore(CQ) the fortunes of Elam
in days to come,”
declares the Lord.

Thus saith Jehovah: Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then doth [a]Malcam [b]possess Gad, and his people dwell in the cities thereof? 2 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel [c]possess them that did [d]possess him, saith Jehovah. 3 Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste; cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth: lament, and run to and fro among the fences; for [e]Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests and his princes together. 4 [f]Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me? 5 Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, from all that are round about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth, and there shall be none to gather together the fugitives. 6 But afterward I will bring back the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith Jehovah.
7 Of Edom. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? 8 Flee ye, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him. 9 If grape-gatherers came to thee, [g]would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough? 10 But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brethren, and his neighbors; and he is not. 11 Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me. 12 For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, they [h]to whom it pertained not to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink. 13 For I have sworn by myself, saith Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.
14 I have heard tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. 15 For, behold, I have made thee small among the nations, and despised among men. 16 As for thy terribleness, the pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of [i]the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith Jehovah. 17 And Edom shall become an astonishment: every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof. 18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities thereof, saith Jehovah, no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein. 19 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the [j]pride of the Jordan [k]against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd that will stand before me? 20 Therefore hear ye the counsel of Jehovah, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely [l]they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their [m]habitation [n]desolate over them. 21 The earth trembleth at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise whereof is heard in the Red Sea. 22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
23 Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil tidings, they are melted away: there is [o]sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet. 24 Damascus is waxed feeble, she turneth herself to flee, and trembling hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail. 25 How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy? 26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, saith Jehovah of hosts. 27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.
28 Of Kedar, and of the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote.
Thus saith Jehovah: Arise ye, go up to Kedar, and destroy the children of the east. 29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take; they shall carry away for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Terror on every side! 30 Flee ye, wander far off, dwell in the depths, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith Jehovah; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived a purpose against you. 31 Arise, get you up unto a nation that is at ease, that dwelleth without care, saith Jehovah; that have neither gates nor bars, that dwell alone. 32 And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter unto all winds them that have the corners of their hair cut off; and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, saith Jehovah. 33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling-place of jackals, a desolation for ever: no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man sojourn therein.
34 The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. 36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither [p]the outcasts of Elam shall not come. 37 And I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life; and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith Jehovah; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them: 38 and I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence king and princes, saith Jehovah. 39 But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will [q]bring back the captivity of Elam, saith Jehovah.
