耶和華指示耶利米猶大必滅
16 耶和華的話臨到我，說： 2 “在這地方你不可娶妻，不可生兒育女。” 3 因為論到這地方出生的兒女，和在這地生養他們的父母，耶和華這樣說： 4 “他們都必死於致命的疫症，沒有人為他們哀哭，他們的屍體也沒有人埋葬，必在地面上成為糞肥。他們必被刀劍和饑荒所滅，他們的屍體成了空中飛鳥和地上走獸的食物。”
5 耶和華這樣說：“你不可進入喪家，也不可去為他們哀哭悲傷；因為我已經從這人民身上收回我的平安、慈愛和憐憫。”這是耶和華的宣告。 6 “尊大的和卑微的都必死在這地；沒有人埋葬他們，沒有人為他們哀哭，也沒有人為他們割傷自己，剃光頭髮。 7 沒有人為哀悼的人擘餅，為死者安慰他們；喪父或喪母的人，都沒有人給他們喝一杯安慰酒。 8 你也不可進入歡宴之家，跟他們同坐，一起吃喝。 9 因為萬軍之耶和華以色列的 神這樣說：‘看哪！我必在你們眼前，在你們還活著的日子，使歡笑和快樂的聲音，新郎和新娘的聲音，都從這地方止息了。’”
10 “你向這人民傳講這一切時，如果他們問你：‘耶和華為甚麼宣告這一切嚴重的災禍對付我們呢？我們有甚麼罪孽？我們犯了甚麼罪，得罪了耶和華我們的 神呢？’ 11 你就要回答他們：‘因為你們的列祖離棄了我（這是耶和華的宣告），他們隨從別的神，事奉敬拜他們；他們離棄了我，不遵守我的律法。 12 至於你們，你們作壞事比你們的列祖更厲害；看哪！你們各人都隨從自己頑梗的惡心行事，不聽從我。 13 因此，我要把你們從這地趕出去，去到你們和你們列祖所不認識的地；你們在那裡必晝夜事奉別的神，因為我不再向你們施恩。’
預言以色列人回歸
14 “看哪！日子快到，人必不再指著那領以色列人從埃及地上來的永活的耶和華起誓。”這是耶和華的宣告。 15 “他們卻要指著那領以色列人從北方之地，從他們被趕逐到的各國上來的永活的耶和華起誓。因我要領他們回到自己的土地，就是我從前賜給他們列祖的。
16 “看哪！我要差人去叫許多漁夫來，捕捉以色列人；然後我要差人去叫許多獵人來，從各大山、小山和巖石的裂縫裡，獵取他們。”這是耶和華的宣告。 17 “因為我的眼察看他們所行的一切；在我面前這一切都無法隱藏，他們的罪孽不能從我眼前遮掩起來。 18 首先我要加倍報應他們的罪孽和罪惡，因為他們用自己那些毫無生氣、可憎的偶像（“毫無生氣，可憎的偶像”原文作“可憎的偶像的屍體”）玷污了我的土地，他們那些可厭之物充滿了我的產業。”
耶和華是真神
19 耶和華，我的力量、我的堡壘、
我遭難時的避難所啊！
萬國要從地極前來朝見你，說：
“我們列祖所承受的只是虛假的偶像，
是虛空、一無用處的。
20 人豈能為自己製造神呢？
其實這些偶像並不是神。”
21 “因此，看哪！我要使他們知道，
這一次我必叫他們認識
我的手和我的能力，
他們就知道我的名是耶和華。”

16 The word of the Lord came also unto me, saying,
2 Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place.
3 For thus saith the Lord concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land;
4 They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
5 For thus saith the Lord, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the Lord, even lovingkindness and mercies.
6 Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:
7 Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
8 Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink.
9 For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.
10 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?
11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
12 And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:
13 Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.
14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.
17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.
18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.
19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?
21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.

16 The word of the Lord also came to me, saying, 2 “You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place.” 3 For thus says the Lord concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them and their fathers who begot them in this land: 4 “They shall die (A)gruesome deaths; they shall not be (B)lamented nor shall they be (C)buried, but they shall be (D)like refuse on the face of the earth. They shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, and their (E)corpses shall be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth.”
5 For thus says the Lord: (F)“Do not enter the house of mourning, nor go to lament or bemoan them; for I have taken away My peace from this people,” says the Lord, “lovingkindness and mercies. 6 Both the great and the small shall die in this land. 10 “And it shall be, when you show this people all these words, and they say to you, (L)‘Why has the Lord pronounced all this great disaster against us? Or what is our iniquity? Or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?’ 11 then you shall say to them, (M)‘Because your fathers have forsaken Me,’ says the Lord; ‘they have walked after other gods and have served them and worshiped them, and have forsaken Me and not kept My law. 12 And you have done (N)worse than your fathers, for behold, (O)each one [b]follows the dictates of his own evil heart, so that no one listens to Me. 13 (P)Therefore I will cast you out of this land (Q)into a land that you do not know, neither you nor your fathers; and there you shall serve other gods day and night, where I will not show you favor.’
God Will Restore Israel(R)
14 “Therefore behold, the (S)days are coming,” says the Lord, “that it shall no more be said, ‘The Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ 15 but, ‘The Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the (T)north and from all the lands where He had driven them.’ For (U)I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.
16 “Behold, I will send for many (V)fishermen,” says the Lord, “and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. 17 For My (W)eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes. 18 And first I will repay (X)double for their iniquity and their sin, because (Y)they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols.”
19 O Lord, (Z)my strength and my fortress,
(AA)My refuge in the day of affliction,
The Gentiles shall come to You
From the ends of the earth and say,
“Surely our fathers have inherited lies,
Worthlessness and (AB)unprofitable things.”
20 Will a man make gods for himself,
(AC)Which are not gods?
21 “Therefore behold, I will this once cause them to know,
I will cause them to know
My hand and My might;
And they shall know that (AD)My name is the Lord.
