耶和华指示耶利米犹大必灭
16 耶和华的话临到我，说： 2 “在这地方你不可娶妻，不可生儿育女。” 3 因为论到这地方出生的儿女，和在这地生养他们的父母，耶和华这样说： 4 “他们都必死于致命的疫症，没有人为他们哀哭，他们的尸体也没有人埋葬，必在地面上成为粪肥。他们必被刀剑和饥荒所灭，他们的尸体成了空中飞鸟和地上走兽的食物。”
5 耶和华这样说：“你不可进入丧家，也不可去为他们哀哭悲伤；因为我已经从这人民身上收回我的平安、慈爱和怜悯。”这是耶和华的宣告。 6 “尊大的和卑微的都必死在这地；没有人埋葬他们，没有人为他们哀哭，也没有人为他们割伤自己，剃光头发。 7 没有人为哀悼的人擘饼，为死者安慰他们；丧父或丧母的人，都没有人给他们喝一杯安慰酒。 8 你也不可进入欢宴之家，跟他们同坐，一起吃喝。 9 因为万军之耶和华以色列的 神这样说：‘看哪！我必在你们眼前，在你们还活着的日子，使欢笑和快乐的声音，新郎和新娘的声音，都从这地方止息了。’”
10 “你向这人民传讲这一切时，如果他们问你：‘耶和华为甚么宣告这一切严重的灾祸对付我们呢？我们有甚么罪孽？我们犯了甚么罪，得罪了耶和华我们的 神呢？’ 11 你就要回答他们：‘因为你们的列祖离弃了我（这是耶和华的宣告），他们随从别的神，事奉敬拜他们；他们离弃了我，不遵守我的律法。 12 至于你们，你们作坏事比你们的列祖更厉害；看哪！你们各人都随从自己顽梗的恶心行事，不听从我。 13 因此，我要把你们从这地赶出去，去到你们和你们列祖所不认识的地；你们在那里必昼夜事奉别的神，因为我不再向你们施恩。’
预言以色列人回归
14 “看哪！日子快到，人必不再指着那领以色列人从埃及地上来的永活的耶和华起誓。”这是耶和华的宣告。 15 “他们却要指着那领以色列人从北方之地，从他们被赶逐到的各国上来的永活的耶和华起誓。因我要领他们回到自己的土地，就是我从前赐给他们列祖的。
16 “看哪！我要差人去叫许多渔夫来，捕捉以色列人；然后我要差人去叫许多猎人来，从各大山、小山和岩石的裂缝里，猎取他们。”这是耶和华的宣告。 17 “因为我的眼察看他们所行的一切；在我面前这一切都无法隐藏，他们的罪孽不能从我眼前遮掩起来。 18 首先我要加倍报应他们的罪孽和罪恶，因为他们用自己那些毫无生气、可憎的偶像（“毫无生气，可憎的偶像”原文作“可憎的偶像的尸体”）玷污了我的土地，他们那些可厌之物充满了我的产业。”
耶和华是真神
19 耶和华，我的力量、我的堡垒、
我遭难时的避难所啊！
万国要从地极前来朝见你，说：
“我们列祖所承受的只是虚假的偶像，
是虚空、一无用处的。
20 人岂能为自己制造神呢？
其实这些偶像并不是神。”
21 “因此，看哪！我要使他们知道，
这一次我必叫他们认识
我的手和我的能力，
他们就知道我的名是耶和华。”

Profetia om undergång
16 Än en gång talade Herren till mig och sa:
2 Du får inte gifta dig och skaffa dig barn,
3 för barnen som föds i den här staden och deras föräldrar
4 ska dö av fruktansvärda sjukdomar. Ingen ska sörja dem eller begrava dem, utan deras kroppar ska ligga på marken och bli till näring för jorden. De ska dö av krig och hungersnöd, och deras kroppar ska ätas av gamar och vilda djur.
5 Sörj inte eller gråt med dem vid deras begravningar, för jag har tagit bort mitt beskydd och min frid från dem, min kärlek och barmhärtighet.
6 Både stor och liten i det här landet ska dö, utan att bli begravd eller sörjd, och deras vänner ska inte rispa sig med knivar eller raka av sig håret som tecken på sin sorg, som ju är deras hedniska sed.
7 Ingen ska trösta de sörjande med en måltid eller en bägare vin.
8 Som ett tecken för dem under dessa sorgens dagar som ligger framför, ska du inte delta i deras fester och bjudningar. Ät inte ens en enstaka måltid tillsammans med dem.
9 Herren, Israels Gud, säger: Under er egen livstid, inför era egna ögon, ska jag göra slut på all glädje i landet, på alla glada sånger under bröllopsfesterna.
10 När du talar om allt detta för folket, kommer de att fråga: Varför har Herren bestämt något så fruktansvärt för oss? Vad har vi gjort som förtjänar en sådan behandling? På vad sätt har vi syndat mot Herren, vår Gud?
11 Tala då om för dem att detta är Herrens svar: Era förfäder övergav mig. De tillbad andra gudar och tjänade dem. De höll inte mina lagar,
12 och ni har varit värre än de! Ni vandrar på ogudaktiga vägar för att tillfredsställa er själva och vägrar att lyssna till mig.
13 Därför tänker jag kasta ut er ur detta land och förfölja er in i ett främmande land, där varken ni eller era förfäder varit tidigare. Där kan ni fortsätta att tillbe era avgudar precis som ni vill, men jag kommer inte att ha något förbarmande med er!
14-15 Men det ska komma en dag i Israel, säger Herren, när man inte längre avlägger en ed genom att säga: Så sant Herren lever, han som räddade Israel ut ur Egypten, utan: Så sant Herren lever, han som ledde Israels barn tillbaka hem till deras eget land, från norr och från de länder han hade drivit bort dem till. Ja, jag ska leda er tillbaka, säger Herren, till samma land som jag gav era förfäder.
16 Nu sänder jag bud efter många fiskare, som ska fiska upp er från de djup där ni gömmer er för min vrede. Jag sänder bud efter jägare som ska förfölja er i skogar och på otillgängliga klippor. Vart ni än har flytt för min dom ska jag finna er.
17 Jag håller ögonen på er och ser allt ni gör. Ni kan inte hoppas på att kunna gömma er för mig.
18 Jag ska fördubbla straffet för alla era synder, därför att ni har orenat mitt land med era avskyvärda avgudar och fyllt det med alla era onda gärningar.
19 Herre, min styrka och mitt beskydd, min tillflykt på svårigheternas dag! Folk från hela världen kommer till dig och säger: Våra förfäder har varit oförståndiga, för de har tillbett värdelösa avgudar!
20 Kan människor tillverka gudar? De gudar de gjort är inte några verkliga gudar.
21 Därför ska jag en gång för alla visa dem min makt och få dem att till slut förstå att jag är den ende Guden.

Jeremiah’s Lifestyle and Message
16 The word of the Lord also came to me, saying, 2 “You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place.” 3 For thus says the Lord concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them and their fathers who begot them in this land: 4 “They shall die (A)gruesome deaths; they shall not be (B)lamented nor shall they be (C)buried, but they shall be (D)like refuse on the face of the earth. They shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, and their (E)corpses shall be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth.”
5 For thus says the Lord: (F)“Do not enter the house of mourning, nor go to lament or bemoan them; for I have taken away My peace from this people,” says the Lord, “lovingkindness and mercies. 6 Both the great and the small shall die in this land. They shall not be buried; (G)neither shall men lament for them, (H)cut themselves, nor (I)make themselves bald for them. 7 Nor shall men break bread in mourning for them, to comfort them for the dead; nor shall men give them the cup of consolation to (J)drink for their father or their mother. 8 Also you shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and drink.”
9 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Behold, (K)I will cause to cease from this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of [a]mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.
10 “And it shall be, when you show this people all these words, and they say to you, (L)‘Why has the Lord pronounced all this great disaster against us? Or what is our iniquity? Or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?’ 11 then you shall say to them, (M)‘Because your fathers have forsaken Me,’ says the Lord; ‘they have walked after other gods and have served them and worshiped them, and have forsaken Me and not kept My law. 12 And you have done (N)worse than your fathers, for behold, (O)each one [b]follows the dictates of his own evil heart, so that no one listens to Me. 13 (P)Therefore I will cast you out of this land (Q)into a land that you do not know, neither you nor your fathers; and there you shall serve other gods day and night, where I will not show you favor.’
God Will Restore Israel(R)
14 “Therefore behold, the (S)days are coming,” says the Lord, “that it shall no more be said, ‘The Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ 15 but, ‘The Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the (T)north and from all the lands where He had driven them.’ For (U)I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.
16 “Behold, I will send for many (V)fishermen,” says the Lord, “and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. 17 For My (W)eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes. 18 And first I will repay (X)double for their iniquity and their sin, because (Y)they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols.”
19 O Lord, (Z)my strength and my fortress,
(AA)My refuge in the day of affliction,
The Gentiles shall come to You
From the ends of the earth and say,
“Surely our fathers have inherited lies,
Worthlessness and (AB)unprofitable things.”
20 Will a man make gods for himself,
(AC)Which are not gods?
21 “Therefore behold, I will this once cause them to know,
I will cause them to know
My hand and My might;
And they shall know that (AD)My name is the Lord.
