10 以色列家啊！你们要听耶和华对你们所说的话。
2 耶和华这样说：
“你们不要学习列国的行径，
列国因天象惊惶，
你们却不要因这些惊惶。
3 因为万民所信奉的都是虚空，
只是从林中砍下的树木，
是匠人用凿刀制成的产品。
4 他们用金银把它修饰，
用钉子和锤子把它钉牢，
使它不动摇。
5 它们像瓜田里的稻草人，
不能说话；
它们必须要人抬着走，
因为它们不能走路。
你们不要害怕它们，
因它们不能降祸，
也不能降福。”
6 耶和华啊！没有可以跟你相比的；
你是伟大的，你的名大有能力。
7 万国的王啊！谁敢不敬畏你呢？
这是你应得的。
因为在列国所有的智慧人中，
以及在他们的全国里，
没有可以跟你相比的。
8 他们全是顽梗愚昧，
他们所领受的教导是来自那些虚无、
木做的偶像。
9 那些偶像镶有经过锤炼的银片，
银子是从他施运来的，
也有从乌法运来的金子，
都是匠人和金匠手作的产品。
它们穿著蓝色和紫色的衣服，
全都是巧匠的作品。
10 只有耶和华是真神；
他是永活的 神，是永远的君王。
他一发怒，大地就震动，
万国都不能承受他的忿怒。
11 你们要对他们这样说：“那些没有创造天地的神，必从地上、从天下消灭。”
12 耶和华用自己的能力创造了大地，
用自己的智慧坚立了世界，
又用自己的聪明展开了诸天。
13 他一发声，空中众水就澎湃；
他使云雾从地极上腾；
他造了闪电和雷雨，
又使风从他的仓库里吹出来。
14 人人都是顽梗无知；
所有的金匠都因偶像羞愧，
因为他们铸造的像都是虚假、没有气息的。
15 偶像都是虚无的，是荒谬可笑的作品；
到了讨罪的时候，它们必被除灭。
16 那作雅各产业的并不像这些偶像，
因为他是万物的创造者；
以色列是属他的民族，
万军之耶和华是他的名。
不能逃避的灾祸
17 住在被围困的城中的人哪！
你们从地上拾起自己的行囊。
18 因为耶和华这样说：
“看哪！在这时候，
我要把这地的居民投掷出去；
又使他们受困苦，
以致他们被压倒。”
19 因我的损伤，我有祸了！
我的创伤不能医治；
但我说：“这是我的痛苦，
我必须忍受。”
20 我的帐棚毁坏，
我的绳索都折断了；
我的儿女都离我而去，不在这里了；
再没有人支搭我的帐棚，
挂起我的幔子。
21 牧人都是顽梗的，
他们不求问耶和华；
因此，他们不得亨通，
他们所有的羊群都四散。
22 听哪！有风声传来，
有大骚动从北方之地而来，
要使犹大的城市荒凉，
成为野狗的巢穴。
23 耶和华啊！我知道
人的道路是不由自己的；
人行走时，也不能确定自己的脚步。
24 耶和华啊！求你只按着公正惩治我，
不要按着你的忿怒施行惩治，免得你使我衰微。
25 愿你把你的烈怒倾倒在不认识你的列国，
和不求告你名的万族身上；
因为他们吞吃了雅各，
他们吞吃了他，把他消灭，
使他的住处荒凉。

Die Götzen und der Herr
10 Höret das Wort des Herrn, das er zu euch redet, o Haus Israel!
2 So spricht der Herr:
Ihr sollt der Heiden Weise nicht erlernen
und vor den Zeichen des Himmels nicht erschrecken,
weil die Heiden sich vor ihnen fürchten.
3 Denn die Satzungen der Heiden sind nichtig.
Denn ein Holz ist's, das man im Walde gehauen
und das der Künstler mit dem Beile zurichtet.
4 Er ziert es mit Silber und Gold
und befestigt es mit Hämmern und Nägeln,
damit es nicht wackelt.
5 Gedrechselten Palmbäumen gleich sind solche [Götzen]; sie können nicht reden;
man muß sie tragen, denn sie können nicht gehen.
Fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen, denn sie können nicht schaden,
und Gutes zu tun steht nicht in ihrer Macht.
6 Dir aber, o Herr, ist niemand gleich!
Groß bist du, und groß ist dein Name vermöge deiner Macht!
7 Wer sollte dich nicht fürchten, du König der Völker?
Denn dir gebührt dies;
denn unter allen Weisen der Völker und in allen ihren Königreichen
ist keiner wie du!
8 Sie sind allzumal dumm und töricht,
eine äußerst nichtige Lehre: Holz sind sie;
9 gehämmertes Silber, von Tarsis gebracht, und Gold von Uphas,
eine Arbeit des Werkmeisters und der Hände des Gießers;
mit blauem und rotem Purpur sind sie bekleidet;
ein Werk von Künstlern sind sie alle. -
10 Aber der Herr ist Gott in Wahrheit;
er ist ein lebendiger Gott und ein ewiger König.
Vor seinem Zorn erbebt die Erde,
und die Völker vermögen seinen Grimm nicht zu ertragen. -
11 So sollt ihr nun also zu ihnen sagen:
Die Götter, welche weder Himmel noch Erde erschaffen haben,
sollen von der Erde und unter dem Himmel verschwinden. -
12 Er ist's, der die Erde durch seine Kraft erschaffen,
in seiner Weisheit den Weltkreis abgegrenzt
und mit seinem Verstand den Himmel ausgespannt hat.
13 Sobald er seine Stimme hören läßt,
so sammelt sich eine Menge Wassers am Himmel;
er zieht Wolken herauf vom Ende der Erde,
macht Blitze zum Regen
und holt den Wind aus seinen Kammern hervor.
14 Alle Menschen stehen da als Toren, trotz ihrem Wissen,
und alle Gießer werden an ihren Bildern zuschanden;
denn was sie gießen ist Betrug,
und kein Geist ist darin.
15 Schwindel ist's, ein lächerliches Machwerk!
Zur Zeit ihrer Heimsuchung gehen sie zugrunde.
16 Aber nicht wie diese ist Jakobs Teil,
sondern der Schöpfer des Alls ist er,
und Israel ist der Stamm seines Erbteils:
Herr der Heerscharen ist sein Name.
Das Gericht naht
17 Raffe dein Bündel auf von der Erde,
die du in der Klemme sitzest!
18 Denn also hat der Herr gesprochen:
Siehe, diesmal will ich die Bewohner des Landes hinausschleudern
und sie ängstigen, daß sie es empfinden. -
19 Wehe mir wegen meines Schadens!
Wie tun mir meine Wunden so weh!
Doch ich dachte: Sicherlich ist das mein Leiden;
ich will es auch tragen.
20 Mein Zelt ist verwüstet,
und alle meine Zeltstricke sind abgerissen;
meine Kinder haben mich verlassen, sie sind nirgends mehr.
Niemand schlägt mir mehr mein Zelt auf
oder hängt mir meine Vorhänge ein!
21 Die Hirten sind töricht gewesen,
sie haben den Herrn nicht gesucht.
Darum hatten sie kein Gelingen,
und ihre ganze Herde ist zerstreut.
22 Horch! eine Kunde:
Siehe es kommt, ein großes Getümmel kommt vom Lande des Nordens her,
das wird die Städte Judas zu Trümmern
und zu einer Wohnung für Schakale machen!

23 Ich weiß, Herr,
daß des Menschen Weg nicht in seiner Macht steht
und daß der Mann, der da wandelt,
seine Schritte nicht zu lenken vermag.
24 Züchtige du mich, Herr, doch nach dem Recht
und nicht in deinem Zorn, damit du mich nicht zu sehr verminderst!
25 Gieße deinen Zorn über die Heiden aus, die dich nicht kennen,
und über die Geschlechter, die deinen Namen nicht anrufen;
denn sie haben Jakob verzehrt, gefressen und aufgerieben
und seine Wohnung verwüstet!

10 ¶ Hear ye the word which the LORD has spoken over you, O house of Israel:
2 Thus hath the LORD said, Do not learn the way of the Gentiles, and do not fear the signs of heaven, even though the Gentiles fear them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are vanity: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails, that it not move.
5 They compare them to the palm tree, and they do not speak: they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither do they have power to do good.
6 Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
7 Who would not fear thee, O King of the Gentiles? for unto thee does it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the Gentiles and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
8 But they shall become altogether carnal and foolish. The stock is a doctrine of vanities.
9 Silver spread into plates shall be brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, shall the workman work and the hands of the founder: they shall dress them in blue and purple: they are all the work of cunning men.
10 But the LORD God is the Truth, he himself is Living God and Everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembles, and the Gentiles shall not be able to abide his indignation.
11 Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens or the earth, even they shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.
12 He that makes the earth by his power, he that orders the world with his wisdom and extends the heavens with his intelligence:
13 at his voice, there is given a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes the lightnings with the rain and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.
14 Every man is carnal in his knowledge: let every founder be ashamed of his graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no spirit in them.
15 They are vanity and the work of scorn: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16 The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the Former of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of the hosts is his name.
17 ¶ Gather up thy wares out of the lands, O inhabitant of the fortress.
18 For thus hath the LORD said, Behold, that this time I will throw out the inhabitants of the land with a sling and will afflict them, that they may find it.
19 Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous, but I said, Truly this is my sickness, and I must bear it.
20 My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken: my sons were taken from me, and they are lost; there is no one to stretch forth my tent any more and to set up my curtains.
21 For the pastors are become carnal and have not sought the LORD; therefore they did not understand, and all their flocks scattered.
22 Behold, the voice of the rumour is come, and a great commotion out of the land of the north wind to make the cities of Judah desolate and a den of dragons.
23 O LORD, I know that man is not the lord of his own way: it is not in man that walks to order his steps.
24 O LORD, chastise me, but with judgment; not with thine anger lest thou bring me to nothing.
25 Pour out thy fury upon the Gentiles that do not know thee and upon the nations that do not call on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob and devoured him and consumed him and have destroyed his habitation.

10 Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel. 2 This is what the Lord says:
“Do not learn the ways of the nations(B)
or be terrified by signs(C) in the heavens,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman(D) shapes it with his chisel.(E)
4 They adorn it with silver(F) and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.(G)
5 Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field,
their idols cannot speak;(H)
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.(I)
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm(J)
nor can they do any good.”(K)
6 No one is like you,(L) Lord;
you are great,(M)
and your name is mighty in power.
7 Who should not fear(N) you,
King of the nations?(O)
This is your due.
Among all the wise leaders of the nations
and in all their kingdoms,
there is no one like you.
8 They are all senseless(P) and foolish;(Q)
they are taught by worthless wooden idols.(R)
9 Hammered silver is brought from Tarshish(S)
and gold from Uphaz.
What the craftsman and goldsmith have made(T)
is then dressed in blue and purple—
all made by skilled workers.
10 But the Lord is the true God;
he is the living God,(U) the eternal King.(V)
When he is angry,(W) the earth trembles;(X)
the nations cannot endure his wrath.(Y)
11 “Tell them this: ‘These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish(Z) from the earth and from under the heavens.’”[a]
12 But God made(AA) the earth(AB) by his power;
he founded the world by his wisdom(AC)
and stretched out the heavens(AD) by his understanding.
13 When he thunders,(AE) the waters in the heavens roar;
he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.
He sends lightning(AF) with the rain(AG)
and brings out the wind from his storehouses.(AH)
14 Everyone is senseless and without knowledge;
every goldsmith is shamed(AI) by his idols.
The images he makes are a fraud;(AJ)
they have no breath in them.
15 They are worthless,(AK) the objects of mockery;
when their judgment comes, they will perish.
16 He who is the Portion(AL) of Jacob is not like these,
for he is the Maker of all things,(AM)
including Israel, the people of his inheritance(AN)—
the Lord Almighty is his name.(AO)
Coming Destruction
17 Gather up your belongings(AP) to leave the land,
you who live under siege.
18 For this is what the Lord says:
“At this time I will hurl(AQ) out
those who live in this land;
I will bring distress(AR) on them
so that they may be captured.”
19 Woe to me because of my injury!
My wound(AS) is incurable!
Yet I said to myself,
“This is my sickness, and I must endure(AT) it.”
20 My tent(AU) is destroyed;
all its ropes are snapped.
My children are gone from me and are no more;(AV)
no one is left now to pitch my tent
or to set up my shelter.
21 The shepherds(AW) are senseless(AX)
and do not inquire of the Lord;(AY)
so they do not prosper(AZ)
and all their flock is scattered.(BA)
22 Listen! The report is coming—
a great commotion from the land of the north!(BB)
It will make the towns of Judah desolate,(BC)
a haunt of jackals.(BD)
Jeremiah’s Prayer
23 Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own;
it is not for them to direct their steps.(BE)
24 Discipline me, Lord, but only in due measure—
not in your anger,(BF)
or you will reduce me to nothing.(BG)
25 Pour out your wrath on the nations(BH)
that do not acknowledge you,
on the peoples who do not call on your name.(BI)
For they have devoured(BJ) Jacob;
they have devoured him completely
and destroyed his homeland.(BK)
