亚伯拉罕的榜样

那么,从我们的先祖亚伯拉罕身上,我们学到什么呢? 如果亚伯拉罕是因为有好行为而被称为义人,他就可以夸口了,但他在上帝面前没有可夸的。 圣经上不是说“亚伯拉罕信上帝,就被算为义人”吗? 人工作得来的工钱不算是恩典,是应得的。 但对于只信赦免罪人的上帝、不靠功劳的人,他的信就被算为义。

大卫也说不靠行为而被上帝算为义的人是有福的,他说: “过犯得到赦免、罪恶被遮盖的人有福了。 不被主定罪的人有福了。”

那么,这种福分只给受割礼的人吗?还是也给没有受割礼的人呢?因为我们说,亚伯拉罕信上帝,就被算为义人。 10 他究竟是怎么被算为义人的呢?是他受割礼以前呢?还是以后呢?不是以后,而是以前。 11 他后来受割礼只不过是一个记号,表明他在受割礼前已经因信而被称为义人了。他因此成为一切未受割礼的信徒之父,使这些人也可以被算为义人。 12 他也做了受割礼之人的父。这些人不只是受了割礼,还跟随我们先祖亚伯拉罕的脚步,效法他在未受割礼时的信心。

13 上帝应许将世界赐给亚伯拉罕和他的后裔,不是因为亚伯拉罕遵行了律法,而是因为他因信而成了义人。 14 如果只有遵行律法的人才可以承受应许,信心就没有价值,上帝的应许也就落了空。 15 因为有律法,就有刑罚;哪里没有律法,哪里就没有违法的事。 16 所以,上帝的应许是借着人的信心赐下的,好叫这一切都是出于上帝的恩典,确保应许归给所有亚伯拉罕的子孙,不单是守律法的人,也包括一切效法亚伯拉罕信心的人。 17 亚伯拉罕在上帝面前是我们所有人的父,正如圣经上说:“我已经立你为万族之父。”他所信的上帝是能够使死人复活、使无变有的上帝。

18 他在毫无指望的情况下仍然满怀盼望地相信上帝的应许,因而成为“万族之父”,正如上帝的应许:“你的后裔必这么多”。 19 那时他将近百岁,知道自己身体如同已死,撒拉也过了生育的岁数,但他的信心仍然没有动摇。 20 他没有因不信而怀疑上帝的应许,反倒信心更加坚定,将荣耀归给上帝。 21 他完全相信上帝必能实现祂的应许。 22 因此,他被算为义人。 23 “他被算为义人”这句话不单单是为他写的, 24 也是为将来要被算为义人的我们写的,就是相信上帝使主耶稣从死里复活的人。 25 耶稣受害而死是为了我们的过犯,祂复活是为了使我们成为义人。

Ang Halimbawa ni Abraham

Tungkol kay Abraham na ating ninuno, ano naman ang masasabi natin? Ano ang kanyang karanasan tungkol sa bagay na ito? Kung itinuring siya ng Diyos na matuwid dahil sa mga nagawa niya, may maipagmamalaki sana siya. Ngunit wala siyang maipagmalaki sa paningin ng Diyos. Ano(A) ang sinasabi ng kasulatan? “Si Abraham ay sumampalataya sa Diyos at dahil dito, siya ay itinuring ng Diyos na matuwid.” Ang ibinibigay sa taong gumagawa ay hindi itinuturing na kaloob, kundi kabayaran. Ngunit ang hindi nananalig sa sariling mga gawa kundi sumasampalataya sa Diyos na nagpapawalang-sala sa makasalanan ay itinuring na matuwid ng Diyos dahil sa kanyang pananampalataya. Kaya't tinawag ni David na pinagpala ang taong itinuring ng Diyos na matuwid nang hindi dahil sa sarili nitong mga gawa. Sinabi niya,

“Pinagpala ang mga taong pinatawad na ang pagsuway,
    at ang mga taong pinawi na ang mga kasalanan.
Pinagpala ang taong hindi na pagbabayarin ng Panginoon
    sa kanyang mga kasalanan.”

Ang pagpapala kayang ito'y para lamang sa mga tuli? Hindi! Ito'y para rin sa mga di-tuli. Sinasabi natin, batay sa Kasulatan na itinuring na matuwid ng Diyos si Abraham dahil sa kanyang pananampalataya. 10 Kailan iyon nangyari? Bago siya tinuli, o pagkatapos? Bago siya tinuli, at hindi pagkatapos. 11 Ang kanyang pagtutuli ay naging tanda na siya'y itinuring na matuwid ng Diyos dahil sa pananampalataya niya noong hindi pa siya tuli. Kaya't siya'y naging ama ng lahat ng mga sumasampalataya sa Diyos, at sa gayon, sila'y itinuring na matuwid kahit hindi sila tinuli. 12 At siya'y ama rin ng mga tuli, hindi lamang dahil sa kanilang pagiging tuli, kundi dahil sa sila'y sumunod sa halimbawa ng pananampalataya ng ating ninunong si Abraham noong bago siya tuliin.

Nakamtan ang Pangako Dahil sa Pananampalataya

13 Ipinangako(B) ng Diyos kay Abraham at sa kanyang magiging lahi na mamanahin nila ang buong mundo, hindi dahil sa pagsunod niya sa Kautusan, kundi dahil sa siya'y itinuring na matuwid sa pamamagitan ng kanyang pananampalataya sa Diyos. 14 Kung(C) ang pangako ay ipagkakaloob lamang sa mga sumusunod sa Kautusan, walang saysay ang pananampalataya ng tao at walang kabuluhan ang pangako ng Diyos. 15 Ang Kautusan ay nagdadala ng poot ng Diyos sa mga lumalabag. Ngunit kung walang kautusan, wala ring paglabag.

16 Kaya(D) nga't sa pananampalataya nababatay ang pangako, upang ito'y maibigay bilang walang bayad na kaloob para sa lahat ng anak ni Abraham; hindi lamang sa mga saklaw ng Kautusan, kundi sa lahat ng sumasampalataya rin tulad ni Abraham. Sapagkat siya ang ama nating lahat, 17 gaya(E) ng nasusulat, “Ginawa kitang ama ng maraming bansa.” Ang pangakong ito'y may bisa sa harap ng Diyos na kanyang sinampalatayanan, ang Diyos na bumubuhay sa mga patay at lumilikha ng mga bagay na hindi pa nalilikha. 18 Kahit(F) wala nang pag-asang magkaanak, nanalig pa rin si Abraham na siya'y magiging ama ng maraming bansa, ayon sa sinabi sa kanya, “Sindami ng mga bituin ang iyong magiging lahi.” 19 Hindi(G) nanghina ang kanyang pananampalataya kahit uugud-ugod na siya, palibhasa'y isandaang taon na siya noon, at ang kanya namang asawang si Sara ay baog. 20 Hindi siya nag-alinlangan sa pangako ng Diyos. Sa halip, lalo siyang lumakas dahil sa kanyang pananampalataya at nagpuri pa sa Diyos. 21 Lubos siyang naniwala na tutuparin ng Diyos ang ipinangako nito. 22 Kaya't dahil sa kanyang pananampalataya, siya'y itinuring na matuwid ng Diyos. 23 Ang salitang “itinuring na matuwid” ay isinulat hindi lamang para sa kanya, 24 kundi para sa atin din naman. Ituturing din tayong matuwid dahil sumasampalataya tayo sa Diyos na muling bumuhay kay Jesus na ating Panginoon. 25 Siya'y(H) ipinapatay dahil sa ating mga kasalanan at muling binuhay upang tayo'y mapawalang-sala.

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Abraham Justified by Faith(A)

What then shall we say that (B)Abraham our (C)father[a] has found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was (D)justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? (E)“Abraham believed God, and it was [b]accounted to him for righteousness.” Now (F)to him who works, the wages are not counted [c]as grace but as debt.

David Celebrates the Same Truth

But to him who (G)does not work but believes on Him who justifies (H)the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, just as David also (I)describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:

“Blessed(J) are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered;
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”

Abraham Justified Before Circumcision

Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness. 10 How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised. 11 And (K)he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that (L)he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also, 12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father (M)Abraham had while still uncircumcised.

The Promise Granted Through Faith

13 For the promise that he would be the (N)heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For (O)if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect, 15 because (P)the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.

16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be (Q)according to grace, (R)so that the promise might be [d]sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, (S)who is the father of us all 17 (as it is written, (T)“I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, (U)who gives life to the dead and calls those (V)things which do not exist as though they did; 18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, (W)“So shall your descendants be.” 19 And not being weak in faith, (X)he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), (Y)and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised (Z)He was also able to perform. 22 And therefore (AA)“it was accounted to him for righteousness.”

23 Now (AB)it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe (AC)in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 (AD)who was delivered up because of our offenses, and (AE)was raised because of our justification.
