9 耶稣走路的时候，看见一个生下来就瞎眼的人。 2 他的门徒问他：“拉比，这人生下来就瞎眼，是谁犯了罪？是他呢，还是他的父母呢？” 3 耶稣回答：“不是他犯了罪，也不是他的父母犯了罪，而是要在他身上彰显 神的作为。 4 趁着白昼，我们必须作那差我来者的工；黑夜一到，就没有人能作工了。 5 我在世上的时候，是世界的光。” 6 说了这话，就吐唾沫在地上，用唾沫和了一点泥，把泥抹在瞎子的眼睛上， 7 对他说：“你去西罗亚池洗一洗吧。”（西罗亚就是“奉差遣”的意思。）于是他就去了，洗完了，走的时候，就看见了。 8 那时，邻居和以前常常见他讨饭的人说：“这不是那一向坐着讨饭的人吗？” 9 有的说：“是他。”有的说：“不是他，只是像他。”他自己说：“是我。” 10 他们就问他：“你的眼睛是怎样开的呢？” 11 他回答：“那名叫耶稣的人和了一点泥，抹在我的眼上，对我说：‘你去西罗亚池洗一洗吧。’我去一洗，就看见了。” 12 他们说：“那人在哪里？”他说：“我不知道。”

13 他们就把那个从前瞎眼的人带到法利赛人那里。 14 耶稣和了泥开他眼睛的那一天，正是安息日。 15 法利赛人又问他是怎样可以看见的。他告诉他们：“耶稣把泥抹在我的眼上，我一洗就看见了。” 16 有几个法利赛人说：“那个人不是从 神那里来的，因为他不守安息日。”另外有些人说：“一个罪人怎能行这样的神迹呢？”他们就起了纷争。 17 他们再对瞎子说：“他既然开了你的眼睛，你说他是甚么人？”他说：“他是个先知。”
18 犹太人不信他从前是瞎眼，现在才能看见的，于是把他的父母叫来， 19 问他们：“这是你们所说那生下来就瞎眼的儿子吗？现在他怎么又能看见呢？” 20 他的父母回答：“我们知道他是我们的儿子，生下来就瞎眼； 21 现在他是怎样可以看见的，我们不知道；谁开了他的眼睛，我们也不知道。你们问他吧；他已经长大成人，可以替自己讲话了。” 22 他的父母这样说，是因为怕犹太人，原来犹太人已经定好了，不论谁承认耶稣是基督，就要把那人赶出会堂。 23 因此他的父母说：“他已经长大成人，你们问他吧。”
24 于是法利赛人第二次把那从前瞎眼的人叫来，对他说：“你应当归荣耀给 神，我们知道这人是个罪人。” 25 那人回答：“他是不是个罪人，我不知道；我只知道一件事，就是我本来是瞎眼的，现在能看见了。” 26 他们就问：“他向你作了甚么呢？他怎样开了你的眼睛呢？” 27 他回答：“我已经告诉你们，但是你们不听；为甚么现在又想听呢？你们也想成为他的门徒吗？” 28 他们就骂他，说：“你才是他的门徒，我们是摩西的门徒。 29 我们知道 神曾对摩西说话；只是这个人，我们不知道他从哪里来。” 30 那人对他们说：“这就奇怪了，他开了我的眼睛，你们竟然不知道他从哪里来。 31 我们知道 神不听罪人的祈求，只听那敬畏 神，遵行他旨意的人。 32 自古以来，没有人听过生下来就是瞎眼的，有人可以开他们的眼睛。 33 这人若不是从 神那里来的，他就不能作甚么。” 34 他们说：“你的确是在罪中生的，还敢教训我们吗？”就把他赶出去。
35 耶稣听见他们把他赶出去，后来遇见他的时候，就对他说：“你信人子吗？” 36 他说：“先生，谁是人子，好让我信他呢？” 37 耶稣说：“你已经见过他，现在跟你说话的就是他。” 38 那人说：“主啊，我信。”就向他下拜。 39 耶稣说：“我到这世上来是为了审判，使那看不见的能够看见，能看见的反而成了瞎眼的。”
40 有些和耶稣在一起的法利赛人听了这话，就说：“难道我们也是瞎眼的吗？” 41 耶稣对他们说：“如果你们是瞎眼的，就没有罪了；但现在你们说‘我们能看见’，所以你们还是有罪的。”

De genezing van een blinde man
9 Jezus liep verder en zag een man die al sedert zijn geboorte blind was. 2 Zijn leerlingen vroegen: ‘Meester, heeft deze man zelf gezondigd of is hij blind geboren doordat zijn ouders gezondigd hebben?’ 3 ‘Nee,’ antwoordde Jezus. ‘Het heeft niets te maken met zijn zonden of die van zijn ouders. Maar door hem van zijn blindheid te genezen, toont God zijn macht. 4 Zolang het dag is, moeten wij doen wat God ons opdraagt. Als de nacht komt, kan niemand meer iets doen. 5 Zolang Ik in de wereld ben, ben Ik het licht van de wereld.’ 6 Daarna spuugde Hij op de grond en maakte met zijn speeksel wat modder. Dat deed Hij op de ogen van de blinde man en zei: 7 ‘Ga u wassen in de vijver van Siloam.’ Siloam betekent ‘Gezondene’. De man ging er heen en waste zich. Toen hij terugkwam, kon hij zien. 8 Zijn buren en de mensen die hem vroeger als bedelaar hadden gekend, waren verbaasd. ‘Dat is toch de blinde man die altijd zat te bedelen?’ vroegen zij. 9 ‘Inderdaad!’ zeiden sommigen. ‘Nee,’ zeiden anderen, ‘het is iemand die op hem lijkt.’ ‘Ik ben het echt!’ riep de man uit. 10 ‘Hoe kan het dan dat u nu kunt zien?’ vroegen zij. 11 Hij antwoordde: ‘Iemand die Jezus heet, maakte wat modder, smeerde dat op mijn ogen en zei dat ik naar Siloam moest gaan om mij te wassen. Toen ik dat gedaan had, kon ik zien.’ 12 ‘Waar is die man dan nu?’ vroegen zij. ‘Dat weet ik niet,’ zei hij.
13 Zij brachten hem naar de Farizeeën, 14 want het was sabbat toen Jezus de ogen van de man genas. 15 De Farizeeën vroegen de man ook hoe het kwam dat hij kon zien. Hij antwoordde: ‘Hij deed wat modder op mijn ogen. Daarna heb ik mij gewassen en nu kan ik zien.’ 16 Enkele Farizeeën zeiden: ‘Die Jezus is niet door God gestuurd. Anders zou Hij niet op de sabbat werken.’ ‘Maar,’ brachten anderen er tegenin, ‘een slecht mens zou zulke goede dingen toch niet doen?’ De meningen waren verdeeld. 17 Zij vroegen de man die blind was geweest: ‘En u? Wat zegt u van Hem? Per slot van rekening waren het uw ogen die Hij genas.’ ‘Hij is een profeet,’ antwoordde de man.
18 De Joodse leiders wilden niet geloven dat hij vroeger blind was geweest. Daarom lieten zij zijn ouders roepen. 19 ‘Is dit uw zoon?’ vroegen zij. ‘Is het waar dat hij blind geboren is? Hoe kan hij nu dan zien?’ 20 Zijn ouders antwoordden: ‘Dit is onze zoon en hij is blind geboren. 21 Maar wij weten niet hoe het komt dat hij nu kan zien. Wij weten ook niet wie zijn ogen genezen heeft. Vraag het hem zelf. Wie weet het beter dan hij? Hij is oud en wijs genoeg.’ 22 Zij zeiden dit omdat zij bang waren voor de Joodse leiders. Want die hadden besloten dat ieder die erkende dat Jezus de Christus was, niet meer in de synagoge mocht komen. 23 Daarom zeiden zij: ‘Hij is oud en wijs genoeg. Vraag het hem zelf.’
24 Daarop riepen de Joodse leiders de man nog eens bij zich en zeiden: ‘Geef alle eer aan God. Wij weten dat die Jezus een zondaar is.’ 25 De man antwoordde: ‘Of Hij een zondaar is, weet ik niet. Ik weet maar één ding: ik was blind en kan nu zien.’ 26 Zij vroegen weer: ‘Wat heeft Hij eigenlijk gedaan? Hoe heeft Hij uw ogen genezen?’ 27 De man zei: ‘Dat heb ik toch al verteld? U luistert gewoon niet. Waarom wilt u het anders nog een keer horen? Of wilt u soms ook leerlingen van Hem worden?’ 28 Zij scholden hem uit en zeiden: ‘U bent een aanhanger van Hem, maar wij zijn leerlingen van Mozes. 29 Wij weten dat God met Mozes heeft gesproken, maar van die Jezus weten wij niet eens waar Hij vandaan komt!’ 30 De man zei: ‘Ik vind het maar vreemd dat u niet weet waar Hij vandaan komt. Hij heeft nog wel mijn ogen genezen! 31 Wij weten allemaal dat God niet naar zondaars luistert. Maar als iemand eerbied voor Hem heeft en doet wat Hij wil, luistert God wel. 32 Nog nooit heeft iemand de ogen van een blindgeborene genezen. 33 Als die man niet van God kwam, had Hij zoiets nooit kunnen doen.’ 34 De leiders werden kwaad en zeiden: ‘U bent zelf een zondaar! U moet niet denken dat u ons de les kunt lezen!’ En zij joegen hem weg.
35 Jezus hoorde wat er met de man gebeurd was. Hij zocht hem op en vroeg: ‘Gelooft u in de Mensenzoon?’ 36 De man antwoordde: ‘Ik weet niet wie dat is, Here. Anders zou ik in Hem geloven.’ 37 ‘Ik ben het,’ antwoordde Jezus. 38 ‘Ja, Here,’ zei de man, ‘ik geloof.’ En hij knielde voor Jezus neer. 39 Jezus zei: ‘Ik ben tot een oordeel in deze wereld gekomen: de blinden zullen zien en de zienden zullen blind worden.’
40 Enkele Farizeeën die erbij stonden, vroegen: ‘Zijn wij soms ook blind?’ 41 ‘Als u blind was,’ antwoordde Jezus, ‘zou u geen schuld hebben. Maar nu u beweert te zien, blijft u schuldig.’

6 After saying legō this houtos, he spat ptyō on the ground chamai and kai made poieō mud pēlos with ek his ho saliva ptysma; then kai he daubed epichriō the ho mud pēlos on epi the ho man’ s autos eyes ophthalmos 7 and kai said legō to him autos, “ Go hypagō, wash niptō in eis the ho pool kolymbēthra of ho Siloam Silōam” ( which hos means hermēneuō “ Sent apostellō”). We hēmeis know oida that hoti this houtos · ho man anthrōpos is eimi a sinner hamartōlos.” 25 He ekeinos replied apokrinomai, “ Whether ei or not he is eimi a sinner hamartōlos, I do not ou know oida. One heis thing I do know oida: whereas I used to be eimi blind typhlos, I now arti see blepō.” 26 Therefore oun they said legō to him autos, “ What tis did he do poieō to you sy? How pōs did he open anoigō your sy · ho eyes ophthalmos?” 27 He answered apokrinomai them autos, “ I told legō you hymeis already ēdē and kai you did not ou listen akouō. Why tis do you want thelō to hear akouō it again palin? You hymeis do thelō not mē want thelō to become ginomai his autos disciples mathētēs too kai, do you?” 28 Then kai they scoffed loidoreō at him autos, · kai saying legō, “ You sy are eimi a disciple mathētēs of that ekeinos man ! But de we hēmeis are eimi disciples mathētēs of ho Moses Mōysēs! 29 We hēmeis know oida that hoti God theos has spoken laleō to Moses Mōysēs, · ho but de as for this houtos fellow , we do not ou even know oida where pothen he comes eimi from.” 30 The ho man anthrōpos responded apokrinomai · kai to them autos, saying legō, “ This houtos is eimi an ho amazing thaumastos thing , that hoti you hymeis do not ou know oida where pothen he comes eimi from, and kai yet he opened anoigō my egō · ho eyes ophthalmos! 31 We know oida that hoti God theos does akouō not ou listen akouō to sinners hamartōlos, · ho but alla if ean anyone tis is eimi devout theosebēs and kai does poieō · ho his autos will thelēma, God listens to akouō him houtos. 32 Not ou since ek · ho time aiōn began has it been heard akouō that hoti anyone tis opened anoigō the eyes ophthalmos of a man born gennaō blind typhlos. 33 If ei this man houtos were eimi not mē from para God theos, he could dynamai do poieō nothing oudeis.” 34 They replied apokrinomai · kai to him autos, saying legō, “ You sy were born gennaō completely holos in en sin hamartia, and kai would you sy lecture didaskō us hēmeis?” So kai they threw ekballō him autos out exō.
35 Jesus Iēsous heard akouō that hoti they had thrown ekballō him autos out exō, and kai when he found heuriskō him autos, he said legō, “ Do you sy believe pisteuō in eis the ho Son hyios of ho Man anthrōpos?” 36 The man ekeinos replied apokrinomai, · kai saying legō, “ And kai who tis is eimi he , sir kyrios? Tell me, so that hina I may believe pisteuō in eis him autos.” 37 Jesus Iēsous said legō to him autos, · ho · kai “ You have seen horaō him autos; in fact kai, he ekeinos is eimi the ho one speaking laleō with meta you sy.” 38 Then de the ho man said phēmi, “ I believe pisteuō, Lord kyrios,” and kai he bowed proskyneō in reverence before him autos. 39 · kai Jesus Iēsous said legō, · ho “ For eis judgment krima I egō came erchomai into eis · ho this houtos world kosmos, so hina that those ho who cannot mē see blepō may receive their sight blepō, and kai that those ho who think they see blepō may become ginomai blind typhlos.” 40 Some ho of ek the ho Pharisees Pharisaios who were eimi near meta him autos heard akouō this houtos, and kai said legō to him autos, “ Surely we hēmeis are eimi not mē blind typhlos too kai, are we ?” 41 Jesus Iēsous said legō to them autos, · ho “ If ei you were eimi blind typhlos, you would an not ou be guilty echō of sin hamartia; but de now nyn you are saying legō, ‘ We can see blepō,’ so · ho your hymeis guilt hamartia remains menō.
