20 他的父母回答说:“这个人是我们的儿子,而且生来就瞎眼,这些我们知道。 21 至于他现在怎么能看见,我们就不知道了。是谁开了他的眼睛,我们也不知道。你们问他吧,他已经成年了,他自己会说的。” 22 他的父母说这些话,是因为怕那些犹太人。原来那些犹太人已经说好,如果有人承认耶稣是基督,就要把他赶出会堂。

20 “We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind. 21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders,(A) who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out(B) of the synagogue.(C)
