耶稣的弟弟不信祂
7 之后，耶稣周游加利利，不愿去犹太地区，因为犹太人想要杀祂。 2 犹太人的住棚节快到了， 3 耶稣的弟弟们对祂说：“离开这里，去犹太过节吧，好让你的门徒在那里也看见你所做的啊！ 4 因为人想出名，都不会暗地里行事，你既然可以做这些事，就把自己显给世人看吧！” 5 原来连祂的弟弟们也不信祂。
6 耶稣对他们说：“我的时候还没有到，你们什么时候都很方便。 7 世人不会恨你们，只会恨我，因为我指证他们行为邪恶。 8 你们先去过节吧，我现在还不上去，因为我的时候还没有到。” 9 耶稣说完这些话，仍留在加利利。
耶稣过住棚节
10 他们走了以后，耶稣避开了人们的注意，暗地里上去过节。 11 节期到了，犹太人到处查问：“耶稣在哪里？”
12 众人对祂议论纷纷，有些人说：“祂是好人，”有些说：“不，祂欺骗民众。” 13 不过，没有人敢公开议论祂的事，因为害怕犹太人。
14 节期约过了一半，耶稣来到圣殿教导人。 15 犹太人感到惊奇，说：“这个人没有受过教育，怎么懂得这么多呢？”
16 耶稣说：“我的教导不是出于我自己，而是出于差我来的那位。 17 如果你们愿意遵行上帝的旨意，就能分辨这些教导是出于上帝，还是出于我自己。 18 凭自己讲论的人是要寻求自己的荣耀，但人子真实无伪，毫无不义，祂是为了使差祂来的那位得荣耀。 19 摩西不是把律法传给了你们吗？你们却没有一个人遵守。为什么想要杀我呢？”
20 众人回答说：“你一定是被鬼附身了！谁要杀你啊？”
21 耶稣说：“我行了一件神迹，你们都感到惊奇。 22 摩西把割礼传给你们，你们也在安息日行割礼。其实割礼不是摩西定的，而是从祖先们的时代就有了。 23 为了避免违背摩西的律法，行割礼的那一天就算是安息日，你们还是照行。那么，我在安息日使一个病人完全康复，你们为什么责怪我呢？ 24 不要根据外表来断定是非，要按公义的原则判断。”
耶稣是基督吗
25 有些住在耶路撒冷的人说：“这不是他们要杀的那个人吗？ 26 你看祂这样公开讲道，居然没有人说什么，难道官长也真的认为祂是基督吗？ 27 可是基督来的时候，根本没有人知道祂从哪里来，我们却知道这个人是从哪里来的。”
28 于是，耶稣在圣殿里高声教导人说：“你们知道我是谁，也知道我是从哪里来的。其实我来不是出于自己的意思，差我来的那位是真实的，你们不认识祂。 29 但我认识祂，因为我是从祂那里来的，差我来的就是祂。” 30 他们听了，想捉拿耶稣，只是没有人下手，因为祂的时候还没有到。
31 人群中有许多人信了耶稣，他们说：“基督来的时候所行的神迹，难道会比这个人行得更多吗？”
32 法利赛人听见众人这样议论耶稣，就联合祭司长派差役去抓祂。 33 耶稣对众人说：“我暂时还会跟你们在一起，不久我要回到差我来的那位那里。 34 那时你们要找我却找不到，你们也不能去我所在的地方。”
35 犹太人彼此议论说：“祂要去哪里使我们找不着呢？难道祂要到我们犹太人侨居的希腊各地去教导希腊人吗？ 36 祂说我们找不到祂，又不能去祂所在的地方，是什么意思？”
活水的江河
37 节期最后一天，也是整个节期的高潮，耶稣站起来高声说：“人若渴了，可以到我这里来喝。 38 正如圣经所言，信我的人，‘从他里面要流出活水的江河来’。” 39 耶稣这话是指信祂的人要得到圣灵，但当时圣灵还没有降临，因为耶稣还没有得到荣耀。
40 听见这些话后，有些人说：“祂真是那位先知。” 41 也有些人说：“祂是基督。”还有些人说：“不会吧，基督怎么会出自加利利呢？ 42 圣经上不是说基督是大卫的后裔，要降生在大卫的故乡伯利恒吗？” 43 众人因为对耶稣的看法不同，就起了纷争。 44 有些人想抓祂，只是没有人下手。
犹太官长不信耶稣
45 祭司长和法利赛人看见差役空手回来，就问：“你们为什么不把祂带来呢？”
46 差役答道：“从未有人像祂那样说话！”
47 法利赛人说：“难道你们也被祂迷惑了吗？ 48 哪有官长和法利赛人信祂呢？ 49 这群不明白律法的民众该受咒诅！”
50 曾经夜访耶稣、属于他们当中一员的尼哥德慕说： 51 “难道不听被告申辩，不查明事实真相，我们的律法就定祂的罪吗？”
52 他们回答说：“难道你也是加利利人吗？你去查查看，就会知道没有先知是从加利利来的。”

The Unbelief of Jesus’ Brothers
7 After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He did not wish[a] to go about in Judea because the Jews were looking for an opportunity to kill him. 2 Now the Jewish festival of Booths[b] was near. 3 So his brothers said to him, ‘Leave here and go to Judea so that your disciples also may see the works you are doing; 4 for no one who wants[c] to be widely known acts in secret. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.’ 5 (For not even his brothers believed in him.) 6 Jesus said to them, ‘My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil. 8 Go to the festival yourselves. I am not[d] going to this festival, for my time has not yet fully come.’ 9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee.
Jesus at the Festival of Booths
10 But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but as it were[e] in secret. 11 The Jews were looking for him at the festival and saying, ‘Where is he?’ 12 And there was considerable complaining about him among the crowds. While some were saying, ‘He is a good man’, others were saying, ‘No, he is deceiving the crowd.’ 13 Yet no one would speak openly about him for fear of the Jews.
14 About the middle of the festival Jesus went up into the temple and began to teach. 15 The Jews were astonished at it, saying, ‘How does this man have such learning,[f] when he has never been taught?’ 16 Then Jesus answered them, ‘My teaching is not mine but his who sent me. 17 Anyone who resolves to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own. 18 Those who speak on their own seek their own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and there is nothing false in him.
19 ‘Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you looking for an opportunity to kill me?’ 20 The crowd answered, ‘You have a demon! Who is trying to kill you?’ 21 Jesus answered them, ‘I performed one work, and all of you are astonished. 22 Moses gave you circumcision (it is, of course, not from Moses, but from the patriarchs), and you circumcise a man on the sabbath. 23 If a man receives circumcision on the sabbath in order that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I healed a man’s whole body on the sabbath? 24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgement.’
Is This the Christ?
25 Now some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, ‘Is not this the man whom they are trying to kill? 26 And here he is, speaking openly, but they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Messiah?[g] 27 Yet we know where this man is from; but when the Messiah[h] comes, no one will know where he is from.’ 28 Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, ‘You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. 29 I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.’ 30 Then they tried to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31 Yet many in the crowd believed in him and were saying, ‘When the Messiah[i] comes, will he do more signs than this man has done?’[j]
Officers Are Sent to Arrest Jesus
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering such things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent temple police to arrest him. 33 Jesus then said, ‘I will be with you a little while longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34 You will search for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.’ 35 The Jews said to one another, ‘Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What does he mean by saying, “You will search for me and you will not find me” and, “Where I am, you cannot come”?’
Rivers of Living Water
37 On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, 38 and let the one who believes in me drink. As[k] the scripture has said, “Out of the believer’s heart[l] shall flow rivers of living water.”’ 39 Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit,[m] because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Division among the People
40 When they heard these words, some in the crowd said, ‘This is really the prophet.’ 41 Others said, ‘This is the Messiah.’[n] But some asked, ‘Surely the Messiah[o] does not come from Galilee, does he? 42 Has not the scripture said that the Messiah[p] is descended from David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?’ 43 So there was a division in the crowd because of him. 44 Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.
The Unbelief of Those in Authority
45 Then the temple police went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, ‘Why did you not arrest him?’ 46 The police answered, ‘Never has anyone spoken like this!’ 47 Then the Pharisees replied, ‘Surely you have not been deceived too, have you? 48 Has any one of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? 49 But this crowd, which does not know the law—they are accursed.’ 50 Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus[q] before, and who was one of them, asked, 51 ‘Our law does not judge people without first giving them a hearing to find out what they are doing, does it?’ 52 They replied, ‘Surely you are not also from Galilee, are you? Search and you will see that no prophet is to arise from Galilee.’

Jesus Goes to the Festival of Tabernacles
7 After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want[a] to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders(A) there were looking for a way to kill him.(B) 2 But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles(C) was near, 3 Jesus’ brothers(D) said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. 4 No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” 5 For even his own brothers did not believe in him.(E)
6 Therefore Jesus told them, “My time(F) is not yet here; for you any time will do. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me(G) because I testify that its works are evil.(H) 8 You go to the festival. I am not[b] going up to this festival, because my time(I) has not yet fully come.” 9 After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.
10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret. 11 Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus(J) and asking, “Where is he?”
12 Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.”
Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.”(K) 13 But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.(L)
Jesus Teaches at the Festival
14 Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.(M) 15 The Jews(N) there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning(O) without having been taught?”(P)
16 Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.(Q) 17 Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out(R) whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18 Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory,(S) but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. 19 Has not Moses given you the law?(T) Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”(U)
20 “You are demon-possessed,”(V) the crowd answered. “Who is trying to kill you?”
21 Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle,(W) and you are all amazed. 22 Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision(X) (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs),(Y) you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath. 23 Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath? 24 Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”(Z)
Division Over Who Jesus Is
25 At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?(AA) 26 Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities(AB) really concluded that he is the Messiah?(AC) 27 But we know where this man is from;(AD) when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”
28 Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts,(AE) cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from.(AF) I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true.(AG) You do not know him, 29 but I know him(AH) because I am from him and he sent me.”(AI)
30 At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him,(AJ) because his hour had not yet come.(AK) 31 Still, many in the crowd believed in him.(AL) They said, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs(AM) than this man?”
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.
33 Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time,(AN) and then I am going to the one who sent me.(AO) 34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”(AP)
35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered(AQ) among the Greeks,(AR) and teach the Greeks? 36 What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”(AS)
37 On the last and greatest day of the festival,(AT) Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.(AU) 38 Whoever believes(AV) in me, as Scripture has said,(AW) rivers of living water(AX) will flow from within them.”[c](AY) 39 By this he meant the Spirit,(AZ) whom those who believed in him were later to receive.(BA) Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.(BB)
40 On hearing his words, some of the people said, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”(BC)
41 Others said, “He is the Messiah.”
Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee?(BD) 42 Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants(BE) and from Bethlehem,(BF) the town where David lived?” 43 Thus the people were divided(BG) because of Jesus. 44 Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.(BH)
Unbelief of the Jewish Leaders
45 Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?”
46 “No one ever spoke the way this man does,”(BI) the guards replied.
47 “You mean he has deceived you also?”(BJ) the Pharisees retorted. 48 “Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?(BK) 49 No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law—there is a curse on them.”
50 Nicodemus,(BL) who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked, 51 “Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”
52 They replied, “Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”(BM)

Đã làm được những việc này thì anh nên ra mặt cho thiên hạ biết đi!” 5 Vì các em Ngài không tin theo Ngài, 6 nên Đức Giê-su bảo họ: “Thời điểm của Ta chưa tới, nhưng đối với các ngươi, thì giờ nào cũng thuận tiện. 7 Thiên hạ làm sao ghét các ngươi được, nhưng họ ghét Ta, vì chính Ta đã làm chứng rằng những việc họ làm là gian ác. 8 Các ngươi cứ lên dự lễ; Ta chưa lên dự kỳ lễ này đâu, vì giờ của Ta chưa tới!” 9 Sau khi nói những lời ấy, Ngài nán lại xứ Ga-li-lê.

16 Đức Giê-su đáp: “Giáo lý Ta dạy không phải của Ta mà là của Đấng đã sai Ta đến! 17 Người nào chịu làm theo ý Ngài sẽ biết giáo lý này đến từ Đức Chúa Trời hay là chính Ta tự nói ra. 18 Kẻ tự ý mình mà nói thì chỉ tìm danh vọng riêng cho mình. Còn người lo tôn vinh Đấng đã sai mình mới là người chân thật, không có gì bất chính. 19 Môi-se đã chẳng ban bố Kinh Luật cho các ngươi sao? Thế mà không một ai trong các ngươi vâng giữ Kinh Luật ấy. Sao các ngươi lại tìm cách giết Ta?”
20 Đoàn dân trả lời: “Ông bị quỷ nhập rồi, chứ có ai tìm giết ông đâu!”
21 Đức Giê-su nói: “Ta mới làm một việc mà tất cả các ngươi đều đã kinh ngạc. 22 Vì Môi-se đã truyền cho các ngươi lễ cắt bì (thật ra, không phải Môi-se mà các tổ phụ truyền lại), nên các ngươi làm lễ cắt bì cho người ta trong ngày Sa-bát. 23 Người ta được phép chịu lễ cắt bì trong ngày Sa-bát mà vẫn khỏi phạm luật Môi-se, thì cũng trong ngày Sa-bát, Ta chữa lành toàn thân một người, sao các ngươi lại tức giận với Ta? 24 Đừng xét theo bề ngoài nhưng hãy lấy lẽ công minh mà xét!”
25 Vậy, vài người dân thành Giê-ru-sa-lem hỏi nhau: “Đây không phải là người mà họ đang tìm cách giết sao? 26 Kìa, sao người ấy phát biểu công khai mà không ai nói gì cả? Hay là cấp lãnh đạo đã biết người này thật là Chúa Cứu Thế? 27 Khi Chúa Cứu Thế xuất hiện thì không ai biết Ngài từ đâu đến, còn người này chúng ta đã rõ lai lịch!”
28 Đang giảng dạy trong đền thờ, Đức Giê-su liền lên tiếng nói rằng: “Phải, các ngươi biết Ta và biết Ta từ đâu đến! Ta không tự mình đến đây, nhưng có Đấng Chân Thật đã sai Ta mà các ngươi không biết. 29 Còn Ta thì biết Ngài vì Ta từ Ngài mà đến và Ngài là Đấng đã sai Ta.”
30 Vậy, họ tìm cách bắt Ngài, nhưng chưa ai ra tay được, vì giờ của Ngài chưa tới. 31 Tuy nhiên, nhiều người trong đoàn dân tin Ngài và nói: “Khi Chúa Cứu Thế đến, chắc gì đã làm được nhiều dấu lạ hơn người này!”
Âm Mưu Bắt Chúa
32 Những người Pha-ri-si nghe đoàn dân xì xào bàn tán về Ngài như vậy, liền cùng với các thượng tế sai thuộc hạ đi bắt Ngài.
33 Đức Giê-su nói: “Ta còn ở với các ngươi ít lâu nữa rồi Ta sẽ đi về cùng Đấng đã sai Ta. 34 Dù các ngươi có tìm Ta cũng chẳng gặp, vì các ngươi không thể đến được nơi Ta ở!”
35 Người Do Thái bảo nhau: “Người này sắp đi đâu mà chúng ta sẽ không gặp được? Hay ông ta đi đến với kiều bào tản lạc ở hải ngoại giữa vòng người Hy Lạp để giảng dạy cho người Hy Lạp nữa? 36 Ông ta ngụ ý gì mà lại nói rằng: Các ngươi có tìm Ta cũng chẳng gặp được và các ngươi không thể đến nơi Ta ở?”
Nước Hằng Sống
37 Đến ngày cuối là ngày trọng thể của kỳ lễ, Đức Giê-su đứng lên, phán: “Người nào khát, hãy đến cùng Ta mà uống! 38 Người nào tin Ta thì sông nước hằng sống sẽ tuôn trào từ cõi lòng người ấy, như Kinh Thánh đã nói.” 39 Đức Giê-su nói điều này để chỉ về Thánh Linh mà những người tin Ngài sắp nhận lãnh. Thật ra, Thánh Linh chưa được ban vì Đức Giê-su chưa được hiển vinh.
40 Nghe những lời này, một số người trong đoàn dân bảo: “Người này chính thật là vị tiên tri!”
41 Số khác lại nói: “Người này chính là Chúa Cứu Thế!” Nhưng cũng có những người khác thắc mắc: “Chúa Cứu Thế mà lại xuất thân từ miền Ga-li-lê sao? 42 Kinh Thánh đã chẳng từng dạy rằng Chúa Cứu Thế phải ra từ dòng vua Đa-vít, cùng nguyên quán Bết-lê-hem với vua Đa-vít sao?” 43 Do đó, dân chúng chia rẽ nhau vì cớ Ngài. 44 Một số người muốn bắt giữ Ngài, nhưng chẳng một ai dám ra tay.
45 Khi đám thuộc hạ trở về, các thượng tế và người Pha-ri-si hỏi họ: “Sao không giải hắn đến đây?”
46 Họ đáp: “Chưa bao giờ có ai ăn nói hay như người này!”
47 Người Pha-ri-si hỏi vặn lại: “Chính các ngươi cũng bị lừa sao? 48 Có ai trong bậc quan quyền hay người Pha-ri-si tin hắn đâu? 49 Nhưng đám dân này không biết Kinh Luật thật đáng bị rủa sả!”
50 Trong nhóm Pha-ri-si có Ni-cô-đem là người đã đến gặp Ngài trước đây lên tiếng: 51 “Luật lệ của chúng ta đâu cho phép xét xử một người trước khi nghe người ấy nói và biết việc người ấy làm?”
52 Họ đáp: “Ông cũng xuất thân từ Ga-li-lê sao? Cứ tra cứu Kinh Thánh ông sẽ thấy rõ rằng không một vị tiên tri nào của Chúa xuất thân từ Ga-li-lê cả!” 53 Thế là mọi người bỏ đi, ai về nhà nấy.
