耶稣使五千人吃饱
6 事后，耶稣渡过加利利湖，就是提比哩亚海。 2 许多人因为见过耶稣治病的神迹，就跟随了祂。 3 耶稣到了山上，与门徒一起坐下来。 4 那时，犹太人的逾越节快到了。 5 耶稣举目看见一大群人向祂走来，就对腓力说：“我们到哪里去买饼给他们吃呢？” 6 祂这样说是想试试腓力，其实祂知道应该怎么做。
7 腓力回答说：“就算买二百个银币[a]的饼，也不够他们每人一口啊！”
8 另外一个门徒——西门·彼得的弟弟安得烈对耶稣说： 9 “这里有个小孩子带了五个大麦饼和两条鱼。不过，这么多人，这一点东西实在无济于事。”
10 耶稣说：“你们叫大家坐下。”那地方草很多，众人便坐下来，当时在场的男人大约有五千。 11 耶稣拿起饼来祝谢后，分给坐着的众人，然后又照样分鱼，众人可以随意吃。 12 他们吃饱后，耶稣对门徒说：“把剩下的零碎收拾起来，免得浪费。”
13 他们便把大家吃剩的那五个大麦饼的零碎收拾起来，装满了十二个篮子。 14 大家看见耶稣行的这个神迹，都说：“这人真是那位要来到世上的先知！” 15 耶稣知道他们想强行立祂做王，便独自退到山上。
耶稣在湖面上行走
16 傍晚的时候，门徒来到湖边， 17 上了船，去湖对岸的迦百农。天色已暗，耶稣还没到他们那里。 18 忽然，湖面上狂风大作，波涛汹涌。 19 门徒摇橹，大约行了五六公里，突然看见耶稣在水面上朝他们的船走来，他们很害怕。 20 耶稣对他们说：“是我，不要怕。” 21 于是门徒欢然接祂上船，船立刻到了目的地。
生命之粮
22 第二天，留在对岸的众人看见那里只有一条船，耶稣没有和门徒一起坐船离开。 23 后来有几条从提比哩亚来的小船停泊在岸边，靠近主祝谢后让众人吃饼的地方。 24 他们发现耶稣和门徒都不在那里，就乘船到迦百农去找祂。
25 他们在湖对岸找到了耶稣，对祂说：“老师，你什么时候到这里来的？”
26 耶稣回答说：“我实实在在地告诉你们，你们找我，并不是因为看见了神迹，而是因为你们有饼吃，并且吃饱了。 27 不要为那必坏的食物劳苦，要为那存到永生的食物，就是人子要赐给你们的食物劳苦，因为父上帝把这权柄交给了人子。”
28 众人问祂：“我们要怎样做，才算是做上帝的工作呢？”
29 耶稣说：“信上帝所差来的那位，就是做上帝的工作。”
30 他们又问：“那么，你行什么神迹让我们看了可以信你呢？你要做什么呢？ 31 我们的祖先在旷野有吗哪吃，正如圣经上说，‘祂赐下天粮给他们吃。’”
32 耶稣却说：“我实实在在地告诉你们，不是摩西从天上赐给了你们粮食，而是我父将天上的真粮食赐给你们。 33 因为上帝赐的粮就是从天降下、赐生命给世人的那位。”
34 他们说：“先生，求你把这种粮食天天赐给我们吧。”
35 耶稣说：“我就是生命的粮，到我这里来的人必定不饿，信我的人必永远不渴。 36 但我对你们说过，你们虽然亲眼看见我，仍然不信。 37 凡父赐给我的人，必到我这里来。到我这里来的，我总不丢弃他。 38 因为我从天上下来，不是要成就自己的旨意，而是要成就差我来者的旨意。 39 差我来者的旨意是，祂所赐给我的，我一个也不失掉，在末日我要叫他们复活。 40 因为我父的旨意是要叫一切看见儿子并相信的人得到永生，在末日，我要叫他们复活。”
41 犹太人听见耶稣说自己是从天上降下来的粮，就小声议论， 42 说：“这不是约瑟的儿子耶稣吗？祂的父母，我们都认识，祂现在怎么能说自己是从天上降下来的呢？”
43 耶稣回答他们说：“你们不用议论纷纷。 44 如果不是差我来的父吸引人到我这里来，没有人能来。到我这里来的，在末日，我要叫他复活。 45 先知书上这样说，‘他们都要受上帝的训诲’，这里是指凡听从父的教导又去效法的人，都会到我这里来。 46 这并不是说有人见过父，唯独从上帝而来的那位见过父。 47 我实实在在地告诉你们，信我的人有永生， 48 因为我是生命的粮。 49 你们的祖先在旷野吃过吗哪，还是死了。 50 但这是从天上降下来的粮，人吃了就不死。 51 我就是天上降下来的生命之粮，人吃了这粮，必永远活着。我将要赐下的粮就是我的肉，是为了让世人得到生命。”
52 犹太人开始彼此争论，说：“这个人怎么能把自己的肉给我们吃呢？”
53 耶稣说：“我实实在在地告诉你们，如果你们不吃人子的肉，不喝人子的血，就没有生命。 54 吃我肉、喝我血的人有永生，在末日，我要叫他复活。 55 因为我的肉是真粮食，我的血是真饮品， 56 吃我肉、喝我血的人常在我里面，我也常在他里面。 57 永活的父差我来，我是靠祂而活。同样，吃我肉的人也靠我而活。 58 我是从天上降下来的真粮，吃这粮的人必永远活着，不像你们的祖先，虽然吃过吗哪，最后还是死了。”
59 这番话是耶稣在迦百农会堂里教导人的时候讲的。
永生之道
60 祂的许多门徒听了，就议论说：“这话实在难懂，谁能接受呢？”
61 耶稣知道门徒在议论，就说：“这话叫你们失去信心吗？ 62 如果你们看见人子升到祂原来所在的地方，会怎么样呢？ 63 叫人活着的是灵，肉体毫无作用。我对你们说的话就是灵，就是生命。 64 然而，你们中间有些人不信。”因为耶稣一开始就知道谁不信祂、谁会出卖祂。
65 祂继续说：“所以我曾对你们说，如果不是我父赐恩，没有人能到我这里来。”
66 从此，很多门徒离开了，不再跟从耶稣。
67 于是耶稣问那十二个门徒：“你们也要离开我吗？”
68 西门·彼得答道：“主啊！你有永生之道，我们还跟从谁呢？ 69 我们已经相信并且知道你是上帝的圣者。”
70 耶稣说：“我不是拣选了你们十二个人吗？但其中有一个是魔鬼。” 71 耶稣这话是指着加略人西门的儿子犹大说的，因为他是十二个门徒之一，后来出卖了耶稣。

6 ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਗਲੀਲ ਝੀਲ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਤਿਬਿਰਿਯਾਸ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ। 2 ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਏ। ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਗਏ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਕਰਿਸ਼ਮੇ ਵੇਖੇ ਸਨ। 3 ਯਿਸੂ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠ ਗਿਆ। 4 ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
5 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਵੇਖਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਫਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿੱਥੋਂ ਉਚਿਤ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਰੀਦ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਖਾ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ।” 6 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਫਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਸੀ। ਜੋ ਉਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ ਯਿਸੂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ।
7 ਫਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਭਾਵੇਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਇੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਟੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਟੁਕੜਾ ਹੀ ਦੇਣ ਯੋਗ ਹੋਵਾਂਗੇ।”
8 ਉੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਚੇਲਾ ਸੀ ਅੰਦ੍ਰਿਯਾਸ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਸਮਊਨ ਪਤਰਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, 9 “ਏਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਬੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਪੰਜ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੋ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਇੰਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਕਾਫੀ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ?”
10 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖੋ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਣ।” ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਘਾਹ ਸੀ। ਤਾਂ ਪੰਜ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਏ। 11 ਤਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਈਆਂ। ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਇਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਓਨਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਦੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਸੀ।
12 ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਖਾਧਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਰੱਜ ਨਾ ਗਏ। ਫਿਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਬਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਰੋਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰ ਲਓ, ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਜਾਇਆ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ।” 13 ਤਾਂ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਬਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਟੁਕੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਛੱਡੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਪੰਜ ਜੌਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਟੁਕੜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ 12 ਟੋਕਰੀਆਂ ਭਰੀਆਂ।
14 ਯਿਸੂ ਦੀ ਕਰਾਮਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਇਹ ਓਹੀ ਨਬੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਮਾਨ ਸੀ।”
15 ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਲੋਕ ਬਦੋ-ਬਦੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਵਿਦਾ ਹੋਕੇ ਇੱਕਲਾ ਹੀ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਯਿਸੂ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੱਲਣਾ(B)
16 ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ, ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਝੀਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ। 17 ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਯਿਸੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਰਤਿਆ ਸੀ। ਚੇਲੇ ਕਿਸ਼ਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਕਫਰਨਾਹੂਮ ਵੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲ ਪਏ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਰ ਸੀ। 18 ਤੇਜ਼ ਹਵਾ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ। ਦਰਿਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਡੇਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ। 19 ਚੇਲੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਤਿੰਨ ਜਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਮੀਲ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਅਗ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਸਨ। ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਚੇਲੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ਼ਤੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਡਰ ਗਏ। 20 ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਹਾਂ ਡਰੋ ਨਾ।” 21 ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇੜੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਉਸਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਜਣਾ ਸੀ, ਬੇੜੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ।
ਲੋਕ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ
22 ਅਗਲੀ ਸਵੇਰ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਤੇ ਠਹਿਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ, ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੇੜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਇੱਕਲੇ ਹੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਉੱਥੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਬੇੜੀ ਸੀ। 23 ਪਰ ਤਦ ਤਿਬਿਰਿਯਾਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਈਆਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਕਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਧੀ ਸੀ। 24 ਫਿਰ ਭੀੜ ਨੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਸ਼ਤੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਣ ਲਈ ਕਫਰਨਾਹੂਮ ਨੂੰ ਆ ਗਏ।
ਯਿਸੂ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ
25 ਜਦੋਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਝੀਲ ਦੇ ਪਰਲੇ ਪਾਰ ਲੱਭਿਆ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਕਦੋਂ ਆਏ?”
26 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ? ਕੀ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਰਿਸ਼ਮੇ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ? ਨਹੀਂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਭਾਲ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸੀ, ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਧੀ ਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸੀ। 27 ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਪਰ ਉਸ ਭੋਜਨ ਲਈ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੋ ਜੋ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਦੀਪਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉਹ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਪਿਤਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਦੀ ਮੋਹਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।”
28 ਭੀੜ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਉਹ ਕਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਸਾਥੋਂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ?”
29 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੁਹਾਥੋਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰੋ।”
30 ਭੀੜ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਕਰਿਸ਼ਮਾ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਸੱਕੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਸੱਕੀਏ? ਤੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ? 31 ਸਾਡੇ ਪੂਰਵਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੰਨ ਖਾਧਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ‘ਉਸਨੇ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।’” [a]
32 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਇਹ ਮੂਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਵਰਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਚੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। 33 ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੁਰਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।”
34 ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਦੇਵੀਂ।”
35 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ “ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਹਾਂ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇਗਾ। 36 ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। 37 ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੈ ਉਸ ਹਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ, ਬਲਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢਾਂਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ। 38 ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਦ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ ਸਗੋਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। 39 ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਵੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਗੁਆਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਉੱਠਾਵਾਂਗਾ। ਉਹ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। 40 ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਹੈ: ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੋ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਸਦੀਪਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਾਵੇਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਉੱਠਾਵਾਂਗਾ।”
41 ਫੇਰ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਬੁੜ-ਬੁੜਾਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਹੈ।” 42 ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਦ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਤਾਂ ਭਲਾ ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇ ਕਹਿ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਸਵਰਗੋਂ ਉੱਤਰਿਆ ਹਾਂ।’”
43 ਪਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁੜ-ਬੁੜਾਉਨਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰੋ। 44 ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਉੱਠਾਵਾਂਗਾ। 45 ਇਹ ਨਬੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ: ‘ਉਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਮਝਾਏ ਜਾਣਗੇ।’ [b] ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਸਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੱਕ ਆਉਂਦਾ। 46 ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ। ਉਹ ਇੱਕ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ।
47 “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਦੀਪਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। 48 ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਹਾਂ। 49 ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੂਰਵਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੰਨ ਖਾਧਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਰ ਗਏ। 50 ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਸੁਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰੇਗਾ। 51 ਮੈਂ ਜਿਉਂਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਹਾਂ, ਜੋ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਆਈ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਇਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਜੀਵੇਗਾ। ਇਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲ ਸੱਕੇ।”
52 ਫੇਰ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹਿਸ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, “ਭਲਾ ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਖਾਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਦੇ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ?”
53 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਹੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀਂਦੇ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। 54 ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਸ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਲਹੂ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਦੀਪਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਖੀਰਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਉੱਠਾਵਾਂਗਾ। 55 ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੱਚਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਲਹੂ ਅਸਲੀ ਪੀਣ ਦੀ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੈ। 56 ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਸ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਲਹੂ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
57 “ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਿਤਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਉਂਵਾਂਗਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਉਂਵੇਗਾ। 58 ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਰੋਟੀ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਾਧੀ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਧੀ ਪਰ ਬਾਕੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ, ਉਹ ਵੀ ਮਰ ਗਏ ਮੈਂ ਸਵਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਵੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਜੀਵੇਗਾ।”
59 ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਕਫਰਨਾਹੂਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖੀਆਂ।
ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣਾ
60 ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੁਣੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਇੰਨਾ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਹੈ। ਕੌਣ ਇਸ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ?”
61 ਯਿਸੂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚੇਲੇ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਬੁੜ-ਬੁੜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਇਹ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ? 62 ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਵੱਧੇਰੇ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੋਂਗੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਥੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖੋਂਗੇ, ਜਿੱਥੇੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ? 63 ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਗੋਂ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। 64 ਪਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਯਕੀਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।” ਯਿਸੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਮੁੜ ਪਵੇਗਾ। 65 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ‘ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਿਤਾ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਕਦਾ।’”
66 ਇਸੇ ਕਾਰਣ, ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਰਣ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
67 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਸੂਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ?”
68 ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਪਤਰਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਜਾਈਏ? ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਦੀਪਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। 69 ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪੁਰੱਖ ਹੈਂ।”
70 ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਜਣਾ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਹੈ।” 71 ਯਿਸੂ ਸ਼ਮਊਨ ਇਸੱਕਰਿਯੋਤੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯਹੂਦਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਸੀ।

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand
6 After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. 2 A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. 3 Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. 4 (It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration.) 5 Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” 6 He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do.
7 Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money[a] to feed them!”
8 Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9 “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”
10 “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. 12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” 13 So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.
14 When the people saw him[b] do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!”[c] 15 When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself.

16 That evening Jesus’ disciples went down to the shore to wait for him. 17 But as darkness fell and Jesus still hadn’t come back, they got into the boat and headed across the lake toward Capernaum. 18 Soon a gale swept down upon them, and the sea grew very rough. 19 They had rowed three or four miles[d] when suddenly they saw Jesus walking on the water toward the boat. They were terrified, 20 but he called out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I am here![e]” 21 Then they were eager to let him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination!
Jesus, the Bread of Life
22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the far shore saw that the disciples had taken the only boat, and they realized Jesus had not gone with them. 23 Several boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the Lord had blessed the bread and the people had eaten. 24 So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went across to Capernaum to look for him. 25 They found him on the other side of the lake and asked, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”
26 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. 27 But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man[f] can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”
28 They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”
29 Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
30 They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? 31 After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.’[g]”
32 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. 33 The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.”
35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me. 37 However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. 38 For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. 39 And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. 40 For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”
41 Then the people[h] began to murmur in disagreement because he had said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know his father and mother. How can he say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”
43 But Jesus replied, “Stop complaining about what I said. 44 For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up. 45 As it is written in the Scriptures,[i] ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me. 46 (Not that anyone has ever seen the Father; only I, who was sent from God, have seen him.)
47 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. 48 Yes, I am the bread of life! 49 Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. 50 Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”
52 Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.
53 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. 54 But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. 57 I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”
59 He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
Many Disciples Desert Jesus
60 Many of his disciples said, “This is very hard to understand. How can anyone accept it?”
61 Jesus was aware that his disciples were complaining, so he said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again? 63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But some of you do not believe me.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones didn’t believe, and he knew who would betray him.) 65 Then he said, “That is why I said that people can’t come to me unless the Father gives them to me.”
66 At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. 67 Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”
68 Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. 69 We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.[j]”
70 Then Jesus said, “I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.” 71 He was speaking of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who would later betray him.

6 (A)Después de esto, Jesús se fue al otro lado del mar de Galilea(B), el de Tiberias(C). 2 Y una gran multitud lo seguía, pues veían las señales[a](D) que realizaba en los enfermos. 3 Entonces Jesús subió al monte(E) y se sentó allí con Sus discípulos. 4 Estaba cerca la Pascua(F), la fiesta de los judíos.
5 Cuando Jesús alzó los ojos y vio que una gran multitud venía hacia Él, dijo* a Felipe(G): «¿Dónde compraremos pan para que coman estos?». 6 Pero decía esto para probarlo(H), porque Él sabía lo que iba a hacer. 7 Felipe(I) le respondió: «Doscientos denarios[b] de pan(J) no les bastarán para que cada uno reciba un pedazo[c]».
8 Uno de Sus discípulos(K), Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro(L), dijo* a Jesús: 9 «Aquí hay un muchacho que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pescados(M); pero ¿qué es esto para tantos?». 10 «Hagan que la gente se siente», dijo Jesús. Y había mucha hierba(N) en aquel lugar; así que se sentaron. El número de los hombres era de unos cinco mil(O).
11 Entonces Jesús tomó los panes, y habiendo dado gracias(P), los repartió a los que estaban sentados[d]; y lo mismo hizo con los pescados(Q), dándoles todo lo que querían. 12 Cuando se saciaron, dijo* a Sus discípulos(R): «Recojan los pedazos que sobran, para que no se pierda nada». 13 Ellos los recogieron, y llenaron doce cestas(S) con los pedazos de los cinco panes de cebada que sobraron a los que habían comido.
14 La gente, entonces, al ver la señal[e] que Jesús había hecho, decía: «Verdaderamente Este es el Profeta(T) que había de venir[f] al mundo».
15 Por lo que Jesús, dándose cuenta de que iban a venir y por la fuerza hacerle rey(U), (V)se retiró Él solo otra vez al monte(W).
Jesús anda sobre el mar
16 Al atardecer Sus discípulos(X) bajaron hasta el mar, 17 y subiendo en una barca, se dirigieron al otro lado del mar, hacia Capernaúm(Y). Ya había oscurecido, y Jesús todavía no había venido adonde ellos estaban; 18 y el mar estaba agitado porque soplaba un fuerte viento. 19 Cuando habían remado unos 25 o 30 estadios (cuatro o cinco kilómetros), vieron* a Jesús caminando sobre el mar y que se acercaba a la barca, y se asustaron. 20 Pero Él les dijo*: «Soy Yo; no teman(Z)».
21 Entonces ellos querían recibir a Jesús en la barca, y la barca llegó enseguida a la tierra adonde iban.
Jesús, el pan de la vida
22 Al día siguiente, la multitud(AA) que había quedado al otro lado del mar se dio cuenta de[g] que allí no había[h] más que una barca, y que Jesús no había entrado en ella[i] con Sus discípulos, sino que Sus discípulos se habían ido solos(AB). 23 Vinieron otras barcas de Tiberias(AC) cerca del lugar donde habían comido el pan después de que el Señor(AD) había dado gracias(AE). 24 Por tanto, cuando la gente vio que Jesús no estaba allí, ni tampoco Sus discípulos, subieron a las barcas y se fueron a Capernaúm(AF) buscando a Jesús. 25 Cuando lo hallaron al otro lado del mar, le dijeron: «Rabí[j](AG), ¿cuándo llegaste acá?».
26 Jesús les respondió: «En verdad les digo, que me buscan(AH), no porque hayan visto señales[k](AI), sino porque han comido de los panes y se han saciado. 27 Trabajen, no por el alimento que perece, sino por el alimento que permanece(AJ)para vida eterna(AK), el cual el Hijo del Hombre(AL)les dará, porque a Él es a quien el Padre, Dios, ha marcado con Su sello(AM)».
28 Entonces le preguntaron: «¿Qué debemos hacer[l] para poner en práctica las obras de Dios?». 29 Jesús les respondió: «Esta es la obra de Dios: que crean(AN)en el que Él ha enviado(AO)».
30 Le dijeron entonces: «¿Qué, pues, haces Tú como señal[m](AP) para que veamos y te creamos? ¿Qué obra haces? 31 Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto(AQ), como está escrito: “Les dio a comer pan del cielo(AR)”». 32 Entonces Jesús les dijo: «En verdad les digo, que no es Moisés el que les ha dado el pan del cielo, sino que es Mi Padre el que les da el verdadero pan del cielo. 33 Porque el pan de Dios es el[n]que baja del cielo(AS), y da vida al mundo». 34 «Señor, danos siempre este pan(AT)», le dijeron.
35 Jesús les dijo: «Yo soy el pan de la vida(AU); el que viene a Mí no tendrá hambre, y el que cree en Mí nunca tendrá sed(AV). 36 Pero ya les dije que aunque me han visto(AW), no creen. 37 Todo lo que el Padre me da(AX), vendrá a Mí; y al que viene a Mí, de ningún modo lo echaré fuera. 38 Porque he descendido del cielo(AY), no para hacer Mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió(AZ). 39 Y esta es la voluntad del que me envió: que de todo lo que Él me ha dado(BA)Yo no pierda nada(BB), sino que lo resucite en el día final(BC). 40 Porque esta es la voluntad de Mi Padre: que todo aquel que ve al Hijo(BD)y cree en Él, tenga vida eterna(BE), y Yo mismo lo resucitaré en el día final(BF)».
Murmuración de los judíos
41 Por eso los judíos(BG) murmuraban de Él, porque había dicho: «Yo soy el pan que descendió del cielo(BH)». 42 Y decían: «¿No es este Jesús, el hijo de José(BI), cuyo padre y madre nosotros conocemos(BJ)? ¿Cómo es que ahora dice: “Yo he descendido del cielo(BK)”?».
43 Jesús les dijo: «No murmuren entre sí. 44 Nadie puede venir a Mí si no lo trae[o](BL)el Padre que me envió, y Yo lo resucitaré en el día final(BM). 45 Escrito está en los profetas(BN): “Y todos serán enseñados por Dios(BO)”. Todo el que ha oído y aprendido del Padre, viene a Mí. 46 No es que alguien haya visto al Padre; sino Aquel que viene[p]de Dios, Él ha visto al Padre(BP). 47 En verdad les digo: el que cree[q], tiene vida eterna(BQ).
48 »Yo soy el pan de la vida(BR) . 49 Los padres de ustedes comieron el maná en el desierto, y murieron(BS). 50 Este es el pan que desciende del cielo(BT), para que el que coma de él, no muera(BU). 51 Yo soy el pan vivo(BV)que descendió del cielo(BW); si alguien come de este pan, vivirá para siempre(BX); y el pan que Yo también daré por la vida del mundo(BY)es Mi carne(BZ)».
52 Los judíos(CA), por tanto, discutían entre sí(CB), diciendo: «¿Cómo puede Este darnos a comer Su carne?». 53 Entonces Jesús les dijo: «En verdad les digo, que si no comen la carne del Hijo del Hombre(CC)y beben Su sangre, no tienen vida en ustedes. 54 El que come Mi carne y bebe Mi sangre, tiene vida eterna, y Yo lo resucitaré en el día final(CD). 55 Porque Mi carne es verdadera comida, y Mi sangre es verdadera bebida.
56 »El que come Mi carne y bebe Mi sangre, permanece en Mí y Yo en él(CE) . 57 Como el Padre que vive(CF)me envió(CG), y Yo vivo por el Padre, asimismo el que me come, él también vivirá por Mí. 58 Este es el pan que descendió del cielo(CH); no como el que los[r]padres de ustedes comieron, y murieron(CI); el que come este pan vivirá para siempre(CJ)».
59 Esto dijo Jesús en la sinagoga, cuando enseñaba(CK) en Capernaúm(CL).
Reacción de los discípulos
60 Por eso muchos de Sus discípulos(CM), cuando oyeron esto, dijeron: «Dura es esta declaración(CN); ¿quién puede escucharla?». 61 Pero Jesús, consciente(CO) de que Sus discípulos murmuraban por esto, les dijo: «¿Esto los escandaliza[s](CP)? 62 ¿Pues qué si vieran al Hijo del Hombre(CQ)ascender adonde estaba antes(CR)?
63 »El Espíritu es el que da vida(CS) ; la carne para nada aprovecha; las palabras que Yo les he hablado son espíritu y son vida(CT) . 64 Pero hay algunos de ustedes que no creen(CU)». Porque Jesús sabía(CV) desde el principio quiénes eran los que no creían, y quién era el que lo iba a traicionar[t](CW). 65 También decía: «Por eso les he dicho que nadie puede venir a Mí si no se lo ha concedido(CX)el Padre(CY)».
66 Como resultado de esto muchos de Sus discípulos(CZ) se apartaron(DA) y ya no andaban con Él. 67 Entonces Jesús dijo a los doce discípulos(DB): «¿Acaso también ustedes quieren irse?». 68 Simón Pedro(DC) le respondió: «Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna(DD). 69 Y nosotros hemos creído y sabemos que Tú eres el Santo de Dios(DE)». 70 Jesús les respondió: «¿No los escogí(DF)Yo a ustedes, los doce(DG), y sin embargo uno de ustedes es un diablo(DH)?». 71 Él se refería a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote(DI), porque este, uno de los doce(DJ), lo iba a entregar[u](DK).
