治好病了三十八年的人
5 這些事以後，到了猶太人的一個節期，耶穌就上耶路撒冷去。 2 在耶路撒冷靠近羊門有一個水池，希伯來話叫作畢士大，池邊有五條走廊。 3 在那裡躺著許多病人，有瞎眼的、瘸腿的和癱瘓的。（有些抄本有以下一段：“他們等候水動，4因為有主的使者按時下去攪動池水，水動之後，誰先下去，無論甚麼病，必得痊愈。”） 5 那裡有一個人，病了三十八年。 6 耶穌看見他躺著，知道他病了很久，就問他：“你要痊愈嗎？” 7 病人回答：“先生，水動的時候，沒有人把我放在池裡；自己想去的時候，總是給別人搶先。” 8 耶穌對他說：“起來，拿著你的褥子走吧。” 9 那人立刻痊愈，就拿起褥子走了。
那天正是安息日。 10 因此猶太人對那醫好了的人說：“今天是安息日，你拿著褥子是不可以的。” 11 他卻回答：“那使我痊愈的對我說：‘拿起你的褥子走吧’。” 12 他們就問：“那對你說‘拿起來走吧’的是誰？” 13 那醫好了的人不知道他是誰，因為那裡人很多，耶穌已經避開了。 14 後來，耶穌在殿裡遇見那人，對他說：“你已經痊愈了，不可再犯罪，免得招來更大的禍患。” 15 那人就去告訴猶太人，使他痊愈的就是耶穌。 16 從此猶太人就迫害耶穌，因為他常常在安息日作這些事。 17 耶穌卻對他們說：“我父作工直到現在，我也作工。” 18 因此猶太人就更想殺耶穌，因為他不但破壞安息日，而且稱 神為自己的父，把自己與 神當作平等。
人子的權柄
19 耶穌又對他們說：“我實實在在告訴你們，子靠著自己不能作甚麼，只能作他看見父所作的；因為父所作的事，子也照樣作。 20 父愛子，把自己所作的一切指示給他看，還要把比這些更大的事指示給他看，使你們驚奇。 21 父怎樣叫死人復活，使他們得生命，子也照樣隨自己的意思使人得生命。 22 父不審判人，卻已經把審判的權柄完全交給子， 23 使所有的人尊敬子好像尊敬父一樣。不尊敬子的，就是不尊敬那差他來的父。 24 我實實在在告訴你們，那聽見我的話又信那差我來的，就有永生，不被定罪，而是已經出死入生了。 25 我實實在在告訴你們，時候將到，現在就是了，死人要聽見 神兒子的聲音，聽見的人就要活了。 26 就如父是生命的源頭，照樣他也使子成為生命的源頭， 27 並且把執行審判的權柄賜給他，因為他是人子。 28 你們不要把這事看作希奇，因為時候將到，那時所有在墳墓裡的都要聽見他的聲音， 29 並且都要出來；行善的復活得生命，作惡的復活被定罪。
給耶穌作見證的
30 “我靠著自己不能作甚麼，我怎樣聽見，就怎樣審判。我的審判是公義的，因為我不尋求自己的意思，只求那差我來者的旨意。 31 我若為自己作證，我的見證就不真。 32 然而另有一位為我作證的，我知道他為我作的見證是真的。 33 你們曾經派人到約翰那裡，他為真理作過見證。 34 我不接受從人而來的見證，但我說這些事，是要你們得救。 35 約翰是一盞點亮的燈，你們情願暫時在他的光中歡樂。 36 但我有比約翰更大的見證，因為父賜給我要我完成的工作，就是我所要作的，證明我是父所差來的。 37 差我來的父親自為我作了見證。他的聲音，你們從沒有聽過；他的容貌，你們從沒有見過； 38 他的道，你們也不放在心裡，因為你們不信他所差來的那一位。 39 你們研究聖經，因為你們認為聖經中有永生，其實為我作證的就是這聖經， 40 然而你們卻不肯到我這裡來得生命。
41 “我不接受從人而來的稱讚； 42 我知道你們心裡沒有 神的愛。 43 我奉我父的名而來，你們不接待我；如果有別人以自己的名義而來，你們倒接待他。 44 你們彼此接受稱讚，卻不尋求從獨一的 神而來的稱讚，怎麼能信呢？ 45 不要以為我要向父控告你們，有一位控告你們的，就是你們所仰賴的摩西。 46 你們若信摩西，也必信我，因為他所寫的書曾論及我。 47 你們若不信他所寫的，怎能信我的話呢？”

A Man Healed at the Pool of Bethesda
5 After (A)this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus (B)went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem (C)by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, [a]Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, [b]paralyzed, [c]waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. 5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”
8 Jesus said to him, (D)“Rise, take up your bed and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.
And (E)that day was the Sabbath. 10 The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath; (F)it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”
11 He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’ ”
12 Then they asked him, “Who is the Man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 But the one who was (G)healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. (H)Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”
15 The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
Honor the Father and the Son
16 For this reason the Jews (I)persecuted Jesus, [d]and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. 17 But Jesus answered them, (J)“My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
18 Therefore the Jews (K)sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, (L)making Himself equal with God. 19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (M)the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For (N)the Father loves the Son, and (O)shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, (P)even so the Son gives life to whom He will. 22 For the Father judges no one, but (Q)has committed all judgment to the Son, 23 that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. (R)He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
Life and Judgment Are Through the Son
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, (S)he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, (T)but has passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when (U)the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26 For (V)as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have (W)life in Himself, 27 and (X)has given Him authority to execute judgment also, (Y)because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will (Z)hear His voice 29 (AA)and come forth—(AB)those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. 30 (AC)I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because (AD)I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
The Fourfold Witness
31 (AE)“If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not [e]true. 32 (AF)There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. 33 You have sent to John, (AG)and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. 35 He was the burning and (AH)shining lamp, and (AI)you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. 36 But (AJ)I have a greater witness than John’s; for (AK)the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very (AL)works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. 37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, (AM)has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, (AN)nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 (AO)You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and (AP)these are they which testify of Me. 40 (AQ)But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
41 (AR)“I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 (AS)How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek (AT)the honor that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; (AU)there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; (AV)for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you (AW)do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

2. SECONDA FESTA A GERUSALEMME (PRIMO RIFIUTO DELLA RIVELAZIONE)
Guarigione di un infermo alla piscina di Betzaetà
5 Vi fu poi una festa dei Giudei e Gesù salì a Gerusalemme. 2 V'è a Gerusalemme, presso la porta delle Pecore, una piscina, chiamata in ebraico Betzaetà, con cinque portici, 3 sotto i quali giaceva un gran numero di infermi, ciechi, zoppi e paralitici. 4 Un angelo infatti in certi momenti discendeva nella piscina e agitava l'acqua; il primo ad entrarvi dopo l'agitazione dell'acqua guariva da qualsiasi malattia fosse affetto]. 5 Si trovava là un uomo che da trentotto anni era malato. 6 Gesù vedendolo disteso e, sapendo che da molto tempo stava così, gli disse: «Vuoi guarire?». 7 Gli rispose il malato: «Signore, io non ho nessuno che mi immerga nella piscina quando l'acqua si agita. Mentre infatti sto per andarvi, qualche altro scende prima di me». 8 Gesù gli disse: «Alzati, prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina». 9 E sull'istante quell'uomo guarì e, preso il suo lettuccio, cominciò a camminare.
Quel giorno però era un sabato. 10 Dissero dunque i Giudei all'uomo guarito: «E' sabato e non ti è lecito prender su il tuo lettuccio». 11 Ma egli rispose loro: «Colui che mi ha guarito mi ha detto: Prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina». 12 Gli chiesero allora: «Chi è stato a dirti: Prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina?». 13 Ma colui che era stato guarito non sapeva chi fosse; Gesù infatti si era allontanato, essendoci folla in quel luogo. 14 Poco dopo Gesù lo trovò nel tempio e gli disse: «Ecco che sei guarito; non peccare più, perché non ti abbia ad accadere qualcosa di peggio». 15 Quell'uomo se ne andò e disse ai Giudei che era stato Gesù a guarirlo. 16 Per questo i Giudei cominciarono a perseguitare Gesù, perché faceva tali cose di sabato. 17 Ma Gesù rispose loro: «Il Padre mio opera sempre e anch'io opero». 18 Proprio per questo i Giudei cercavano ancor più di ucciderlo: perché non soltanto violava il sabato, ma chiamava Dio suo Padre, facendosi uguale a Dio.
Discorso sull'opera del Figlio
19 Gesù riprese a parlare e disse: «In verità, in verità vi dico, il Figlio da sé non può fare nulla se non ciò che vede fare dal Padre; quello che egli fa, anche il Figlio lo fa. 20 Il Padre infatti ama il Figlio, gli manifesta tutto quello che fa e gli manifesterà opere ancora più grandi di queste, e voi ne resterete meravigliati. 21 Come il Padre risuscita i morti e dà la vita, così anche il Figlio dà la vita a chi vuole; 22 il Padre infatti non giudica nessuno ma ha rimesso ogni giudizio al Figlio, 23 perché tutti onorino il Figlio come onorano il Padre. Chi non onora il Figlio, non onora il Padre che lo ha mandato. 24 In verità, in verità vi dico: chi ascolta la mia parola e crede a colui che mi ha mandato, ha la vita eterna e non va incontro al giudizio, ma è passato dalla morte alla vita. 25 In verità, in verità vi dico: è venuto il momento, ed è questo, in cui i morti udranno la voce del Figlio di Dio, e quelli che l'avranno ascoltata, vivranno. 26 Come infatti il Padre ha la vita in se stesso, così ha concesso al Figlio di avere la vita in se stesso; 27 e gli ha dato il potere di giudicare, perché è Figlio dell'uomo. 28 Non vi meravigliate di questo, poiché verrà l'ora in cui tutti coloro che sono nei sepolcri udranno la sua voce e ne usciranno: 29 quanti fecero il bene per una risurrezione di vita e quanti fecero il male per una risurrezione di condanna. 30 Io non posso far nulla da me stesso; giudico secondo quello che ascolto e il mio giudizio è giusto, perché non cerco la mia volontà, ma la volontà di colui che mi ha mandato.
31 Se fossi io a render testimonianza a me stesso, la mia testimonianza non sarebbe vera; 32 ma c'è un altro che mi rende testimonianza, e so che la testimonianza che egli mi rende è verace. 33 Voi avete inviato messaggeri da Giovanni ed egli ha reso testimonianza alla verità. 34 Io non ricevo testimonianza da un uomo; ma vi dico queste cose perché possiate salvarvi. 35 Egli era una lampada che arde e risplende, e voi avete voluto solo per un momento rallegrarvi alla sua luce.
36 Io però ho una testimonianza superiore a quella di Giovanni: le opere che il Padre mi ha dato da compiere, quelle stesse opere che io sto facendo, testimoniano di me che il Padre mi ha mandato. 37 E anche il Padre, che mi ha mandato, ha reso testimonianza di me. Ma voi non avete mai udito la sua voce, né avete visto il suo volto, 38 e non avete la sua parola che dimora in voi, perché non credete a colui che egli ha mandato. 39 Voi scrutate le Scritture credendo di avere in esse la vita eterna; ebbene, sono proprio esse che mi rendono testimonianza. 40 Ma voi non volete venire a me per avere la vita.
41 Io non ricevo gloria dagli uomini. 42 Ma io vi conosco e so che non avete in voi l'amore di Dio. 43 Io sono venuto nel nome del Padre mio e voi non mi ricevete; se un altro venisse nel proprio nome, lo ricevereste. 44 E come potete credere, voi che prendete gloria gli uni dagli altri, e non cercate la gloria che viene da Dio solo? 45 Non crediate che sia io ad accusarvi davanti al Padre; c'è gia chi vi accusa, Mosè, nel quale avete riposto la vostra speranza. 46 Se credeste infatti a Mosè, credereste anche a me; perché di me egli ha scritto. 47 Ma se non credete ai suoi scritti, come potrete credere alle mie parole?».
