Jesus visar sig för sina lärjungar när de fiskar
21 Senare visade sig Jesus för sina lärjungar igen vid Tiberiassjön[a] och så här gick det till:
2 Simon Petrus, Tomas som kallades Tvillingen, Natanael från Kana i Galileen, Sebedaios söner och två andra lärjungar var där tillsammans. 3 Då sa Simon Petrus till de andra: ”Jag ger mig ut och fiskar” och de andra svarade: ”Vi följer också med!” Så steg de i båten och for ut på sjön men de fick ingenting på hela natten.
4 När det sedan blev morgon, stod Jesus på stranden men lärjungarna förstod inte att det var han.
5 Jesus sa till dem: ”Mina barn, har ni inte fått någon fisk?”
”Nej”, svarade de.
6 Då sa han: ”Kasta ut nätet på höger sida om båten, så får ni.” De gjorde så och nu fick de så mycket fisk att de inte orkade dra in nätet.
7 Den lärjunge som Jesus älskade,[b] sa då till Petrus: ”Det är Herren!” När Simon Petrus hörde att det var Herren, knöt han om sig sitt ytterplagg för han hade nästan inget på sig och hoppade i vattnet. 8 De andra lärjungarna kom efter med båten och släpade nätet med fiskarna. De hade bara ungefär hundra meter kvar till stranden. 9 När de kom i land, såg de en glödhög och fisk som låg där och bröd.
10 Jesus sa nu till dem: ”Hämta några av fiskarna som ni just fick!” 11 Då steg Simon Petrus upp och drog det fulla nätet iland. Det fanns 153 stora fiskar där men trots att det var så fullt, gick det inte sönder.
12 Jesus sa sedan till dem: ”Kom hit och ät!” Ingen av dem vågade fråga vem han var men alla förstod att det var Herren. 13 Och Jesus gick fram och gav dem av brödet och fisken.
14 Detta var tredje gången som Jesus visade sig för sina lärjungar sedan han uppstått från de döda.
Jesus och Petrus
15 När de hade ätit, sa Jesus till Simon Petrus: ”Simon, Johannes son älskar[c] du mig mer än de andra gör?”
”Ja, Herre”, svarade Petrus, ”du vet att jag har dig kär.”
”Ge då mat till mina lamm”, sa Jesus till honom.
16 Jesus frågade sedan en andra gång: ”Simon, Johannes son, älskar du mig?”
”Ja Herre”, sa Petrus, ”du vet att jag har dig kär.”
”Var då en herde för mina får”, sa Jesus.
17 För tredje gången frågade nu Jesus honom: ”Simon, Johannes son, har du mig kär?”
Petrus blev mycket ledsen över att Jesus än en gång frågade om han hade honom kär och han svarade: ”Herre, du vet allt! Du vet att jag har dig kär!”
Då sa Jesus till honom: ”Ge då mat till mina får! 18 Ja, sannerligen säger jag dig: När du var ung kunde du göra dig i ordning och gå vart du ville. Men när du blir gammal, ska du sträcka ut händerna och andra ska göra dig i ordning och föra dig dit du inte vill.[d]” 19 Detta sa Jesus för att visa med vilket slags död Petrus skulle förhärliga Gud. Sedan sa Jesus till honom: ”Följ mig!”
20 Petrus vände sig nu om och fick se att den lärjunge som Jesus älskade[e] kom efter honom, han som under måltiden hade lutat sig mot Jesus och frågat vem som skulle förråda honom. 21 När Petrus fick se honom, frågade han Jesus: ”Vad kommer att hända med honom?”
22 Men Jesus svarade: ”Om jag vill att han ska bli kvar tills jag kommer så rör det väl inte dig? Du ska bara följa mig!”
23 På grund av detta spreds ryktet bland de troende att den lärjungen inte skulle dö. Men Jesus sa aldrig till Petrus att den lärjungen inte skulle dö. Han sa bara: ”Om jag vill att han ska bli kvar tills jag kommer så rör det väl inte dig?”
Slutord
24 Det är den lärjungen som vittnar om allt detta och har skrivit ner det. Vi vet att hans vittnesbörd är sant.
25 Jesus gjorde också mycket annat och om man skulle skriva ner alla dessa händelser, tror jag inte att hela världen skulle rymma alla de böcker man då måste skriva.

- 21:15 I den grekiska texten används två olika ord för ”älska” som saknar exakt motsvarighet i svenskan. De två första gångerna frågar Jesus: agapas me; här översatt älskar du mig? Tredje gången frågar Jesus fileis me; här översatt har du mig kär? Petrus svar är varje gång filo se, jag har dig kär. F.ö. kan de två verben i grekiskan användas ganska synonymt. Att Petrus nu tre gånger får förklara sin kärlek till Jesus kan ha sin bakgrund i hans trefaldiga förnekelse när Jesus tillfångatogs.
- 21:18 Jesus förutsäger att Petrus skulle avrättas genom korsfästelse.
- 21:20 I v. 24 avslöjas att lärjungen är Johannes.

21 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
