Jesus Prays for Himself

17 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, (A)the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 (B)as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He [a]should give eternal life to as many (C)as You have given Him. 3 And (D)this is eternal life, that they may know You, (E)the only true God, and Jesus Christ (F)whom You have sent. 4 (G)I have glorified You on the earth. (H)I have finished the work (I)which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together [b]with Yourself, with the glory (J)which I had with You before the world was.

6 (K)“I have [c]manifested Your name to the men (L)whom You have given Me out of the world. (M)They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words (N)which You have given Me; and they have received them, (O)and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that (P)You sent Me.

9 “I pray for them. (Q)I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and (R)Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 (S)Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, (T)keep[d] through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one (U)as We are. 12 While I was with them [e]in the world, (V)I kept them in [f]Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and (W)none of them is [g]lost (X)except the son of [h]perdition, (Y)that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; (Z)and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, (AA)just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but (AB)that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 (AC)Sanctify[i] them by Your truth. (AD)Your word is truth. 18 (AE)As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And (AF)for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who [j]will believe in Me through their word; 21 (AG)that they all may be one, as (AH)You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the (AI)glory which You gave Me I have given them, (AJ)that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; (AK)that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

24 (AL)“Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; (AM)for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! (AN)The world has not known You, but (AO)I have known You; and (AP)these have known that You sent Me. 26 (AQ)And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love (AR)with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

Padre santo(Z), guárdalos en tu nombre, el nombre que[c] me has dado(AA), para que sean uno, así como nosotros(AB). 12 Cuando estaba con ellos, los guardaba en tu nombre, el nombre que[d] me diste(AC); y los guardé y ninguno se perdió(AD), excepto el hijo de perdición(AE), para que la Escritura se cumpliera(AF). 13 Pero ahora voy a ti(AG); y hablo esto en el mundo para que tengan mi gozo completo en sí mismos(AH). 14 Yo les he dado tu palabra y el mundo los ha odiado(AI), porque no son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo(AJ). 15 No te ruego que los saques del mundo, sino que los guardes del[e] maligno[f](AK). 16 Ellos no son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo(AL). 17 Santifícalos en la verdad; tu palabra es verdad(AM). 18 Como tú me enviaste(AN) al mundo, yo también los he enviado(AO) al mundo. 19 Y por ellos yo me santifico(AP), para que ellos también sean santificados(AQ) en la verdad(AR). 20 Mas no ruego solo por estos, sino también por los que han de creer en mí por la palabra de ellos, 21 para que todos sean uno. Como tú, oh Padre, estás en mí y yo en ti(AS), que también ellos estén en nosotros, para que el mundo crea[g] que tú me enviaste(AT). 22 La gloria que me diste(AU) les he dado, para que sean uno, así como nosotros somos uno: 23 yo en ellos, y tú en mí, para que sean perfeccionados en unidad[h](AV), para que el mundo sepa[i] que tú me enviaste(AW), y que los amaste(AX) tal como me has amado a mí. 24 Padre, quiero que los que me has dado(AY), estén también conmigo donde yo estoy[j](AZ), para que vean mi gloria, la gloria que me has dado(BA); porque me has amado desde antes de la fundación del mundo(BB). 25 Oh Padre justo(BC), aunque[k] el mundo no te ha conocido, yo te he conocido(BD), y estos han conocido que tú me enviaste(BE). 26 Yo les he dado a conocer tu nombre(BF), y lo daré a conocer, para que el amor con que me amaste(BG) esté en ellos y yo en ellos.

17 When Jesus had finished saying all these things he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Reveal the glory of your Son so that he can give the glory back to you. 2 For you have given him authority over every man and woman in all the earth. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. 3 And this is the way to have eternal life—by knowing you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth! 4 I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to. 5 And now, Father, reveal my glory as I stand in your presence, the glory we shared before the world began.

6 “I have told these men all about you. They were in the world, but then you gave them to me. Actually, they were always yours, and you gave them to me; and they have obeyed you. 7 Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, 8 for I have passed on to them the commands you gave me; and they accepted them and know of a certainty that I came down to earth from you, and they believe you sent me.

9 “My plea is not for the world but for those you have given me because they belong to you. 10 And all of them, since they are mine, belong to you; and you have given them back to me with everything else of yours, and so they are my glory! 11 Now I am leaving the world, and leaving them behind, and coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your own care—all those you have given me—so that they will be united just as we are, with none missing. 12 During my time here I have kept safe within your family all of these you gave me.[a] I guarded them so that not one perished, except the son of hell, as the Scriptures foretold.

13 “And now I am coming to you. I have told them many things while I was with them so that they would be filled with my joy. 14 I have given them your commands. And the world hates them because they don’t fit in with it, just as I don’t. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from Satan’s power. 16 They are not part of this world any more than I am. 17 Make them pure and holy through teaching them your words of truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world, 19 and I consecrate myself to meet their need for growth in truth and holiness.

20 “I am not praying for these alone but also for the future believers who will come to me because of the testimony of these. 21 My prayer for all of them is that they will be of one heart and mind, just as you and I are, Father—that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me.

22 “I have given them the glory you gave me—the glorious unity of being one, as we are— 23 I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one—so that the world will know you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me. 24 Father, I want them with me—these you’ve given me—so that they can see my glory. You gave me the glory because you loved me before the world began!

25 “O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. 26 And I have revealed you to them and will keep on revealing you so that the mighty love you have for me may be in them, and I in them.”
