16 “我把这些事告诉了你们，使你们不致后退。 2 人要把你们赶出会堂；并且时候要到，所有要杀害你们的人，以为这样就是事奉 神。 3 他们要作这些事，因为他们不认识父，也不认识我。 4 我把这些事告诉了你们，让你们到了那个时候，可以想起我告诉过你们了。
圣灵的工作
“我起初没有把这些事告诉你们，因为我跟你们在一起。 5 现在我要到那差我来的那里去，你们中间并没有人问：‘你到哪里去？’ 6 然而因为我把这些事告诉了你们，你们心里就充满忧愁。 7 但我要把实情告诉你们，我去是对你们有益的。如果我不去，保惠师就不会到你们这里来；我若去了，就会差他到你们这里来。 8 他来了，就要在罪、在义、在审判各方面指证世人的罪。 9 在罪方面，是因为他们不信我； 10 在义方面，是因为我到父那里去，你们就再看不见我； 11 在审判方面，是因为这世界的统治者已经受了审判。
12 “我还有许多事要告诉你们，可是你们现在担当不了； 13 只等真理的灵来了，他要引导你们进入一切真理。他不是凭着自己说话，而是把他听见的都说出来，并且要把将来的事告诉你们。 14 他要荣耀我，因为他要把从我那里所领受的告诉你们。 15 父所有的一切，都是我的；所以我说，他要把从我那里所领受的告诉你们。
你们的忧愁要变为喜乐
16 “不久，你们不会再看见我；再过不久，你们还要看见我。” 17 于是他的门徒中有几个彼此说：“他对我们说：‘不久，你们不会看见我；再过不久，你们还要看见我。’又说：‘因为我到父那里去。’这是甚么意思呢？” 18 他们又说：“他所说的‘不久’，是甚么意思呢？我们不晓得他在讲甚么。” 19 耶稣知道他们想问他，就说：“我所说的‘不久，你们不会看见我；再过不久，你们还要看见我’，你们为了这话彼此议论吗？ 20 我实实在在告诉你们，你们要痛哭哀号，世人却要欢喜；你们要忧愁，但你们的忧愁要变为喜乐。 21 妇人生产的时候会有忧愁，因为她的时候到了；但生了孩子以后，就不再记住那痛苦了，因为欢喜有一个人生到世上来。 22 现在你们也有忧愁；但我要再见你们，你们的心就会喜乐，你们的喜乐是没有人能够夺去的。 23 到了那天，你们甚么也不会问我了。我实实在在告诉你们，你们奉我的名无论向父求甚么，他必定赐给你们。 24 你们向来没有奉我的名求甚么；现在你们祈求，就必定得着，让你们的喜乐满溢。

16 —Eu digo isto para que vocês não percam a fé. 2 Vão expulsar vocês das sinagogas e chegará o tempo em que pessoas matarão a vocês, pensando que com isso eles estarão prestando um serviço a Deus. 3 E farão estas coisas porque nunca conheceram nem ao Pai e nem a mim. 4 Eu digo estas coisas a vocês agora, antes que elas aconteçam, para que, quando elas acontecerem, vocês se lembrem de que eu os avisei.
O trabalho do Espírito Santo
—Eu não disse estas coisas a vocês no princípio porque eu estava com vocês. 5 Mas agora eu estou indo embora para aquele que me enviou, e nenhum de vocês me pergunta: “Para onde o senhor vai?” 6 E porque eu lhes disse estas coisas, os corações de vocês ficaram cheios de tristeza. 7 Mas eu digo a verdade a vocês: É melhor para vocês que eu vá embora, porque se eu não for, o Auxiliador não virá. Mas se eu for, eu o enviarei para vocês. 8 Quando ele vier, irá mostrar que o mundo está enganado. Está enganado sobre quem é o verdadeiro pecador nesta situação, quem é que tem a aprovação de Deus e quem é que vai ser condenado por Deus.[a] 9 Vai mostrar que eles, os que não acreditam em mim, são verdadeiramente os pecadores. 10 Vai mostrar que eu tenho a aprovação de Deus, porque eu vou para o Pai, e então vocês não vão me ver. 11 Ele também vai convencer do julgamento porque o príncipe deste mundo[b] já foi julgado.
12 —Ainda tenho muitas coisas para dizer, mas seria demais para vocês agora. 13 Porém, quando vier o Espírito da verdade, ele guiará a vocês para toda a verdade. Ele não vai falar por si mesmo; ele vai ensinar o que ouviu e vai falar sobre coisas que ainda vão acontecer. 14 Ele me glorificará porque vai receber de mim o que vai falar para vocês. 15 Tudo o que o Pai tem é meu. Por isso é que eu disse que ele vai receber de mim o que vai falar para vocês.
Tristeza transformada em alegria
16 —Daqui a pouco vocês não vão me ver mais, mas logo depois vocês vão me ver de novo. 17 Alguns dos discípulos comentaram entre si:
—O que será que ele quer dizer com isto: “Daqui a pouco vocês não vão me ver mais, mas logo depois vocês vão me ver de novo” e também com: “Estou indo para o Pai”?
18 Também se perguntavam:
—O que ele quer dizer com: “Daqui a pouco”? Nós não entendemos o que ele está dizendo.
19 Jesus sabia que eles queriam fazer perguntas a respeito disto e, por isso, disse:
—Vocês estão se perguntando o que eu quero dizer com: “Daqui a pouco vocês não vão me ver mais, mas logo depois vocês vão me ver de novo”? 20 Digo a verdade a vocês: Vocês vão chorar e se lamentar, enquanto o mundo vai estar alegre. Vocês vão estar tristes, mas a tristeza de vocês vai se transformar em alegria. 21 Quando a mulher está para ter um filho, ela sofre porque sua hora chegou. Mas quando o nenê nasce, ela se esquece do seu sofrimento, pois está feliz por ter trazido um filho ao mundo. 22 A mesma coisa acontece com vocês. Vocês estão tristes agora, mas eu vou vê-los de novo e vocês vão ficar cheios de alegria. E essa alegria ninguém vai poder tirar de vocês. 23 E quando chegar esse dia, vocês não vão me perguntar nada. Digo a verdade a vocês: O meu Pai lhes dará tudo o que vocês pedirem em meu nome. 24 Até agora vocês não pediram nada em meu nome. Se vocês pedirem, vocês receberão, para que a alegria de vocês seja completa.
Vitória sobre o mundo
25 —Eu tenho falado estas coisas a vocês por meio de parábolas, mas vai chegar o tempo em que eu não falarei mais assim. Eu falarei a vocês claramente a respeito do Pai. 26-27 Nesse dia vocês vão pedir coisas ao Pai em meu nome e eu lhes digo que não vou precisar pedir ao Pai em favor de vocês, porque ele mesmo os ama. Ele ama a vocês porque vocês me têm amado e têm acreditado que eu vim de Deus. 28 Eu vim do Pai para o mundo. Agora estou deixando o mundo e voltando para o Pai.
29 Então os discípulos disseram:
—Veja, agora o senhor está falando claramente e não com parábolas que são difíceis de entender. 30 Agora nós sabemos que o senhor conhece todas as coisas e que não precisa que ninguém lhe faça qualquer pergunta. Por isso nós acreditamos que o senhor veio de Deus.
31 Jesus replicou:
—Então agora vocês acreditam? 32 Ouçam! Está chegando a hora, e na verdade já chegou, em que vocês serão espalhados, cada um de vocês irá para sua casa e me deixarão sozinho. Porém eu não estou sozinho, pois o meu Pai está comigo.
33 —Eu digo isto a vocês para que, por meu intermédio, vocês encontrem paz. Vocês sofrem neste mundo, mas sejam corajosos. Eu venci o mundo!

Jesus usa estas palavras para responder as acusações feitas pelos fariseus e por outros líderes judeus contra ele. 16 “我把这些事告诉你们，以免你们失去信心。 2 人们将把你们赶出会堂，时候将到，杀害你们的人还以为是在事奉上帝。 3 他们这样做，是因为他们根本不认识父，也不认识我。 4 我把这些事提前告诉你们，是要叫你们到时候可以想起我曾跟你们讲过这些事。我以前没有告诉你们，那是因为我还跟你们在一起。
5 “现在我要去差我来的父那里，你们没有人问我去哪里。 6 因为我把这些事告诉了你们，你们心里充满了忧愁。 7 然而，我把实情告诉你们，我去对你们是有益的，因为如果我不去，护慰者就不会来，我去了就会派祂到你们这里来。 8 祂来了，就要在罪、义、审判方面责备世人。 9 在罪方面责备他们，是因为他们不信我； 10 在义方面责备他们，是因为我要去父那里，你们再也看不到我了； 11 在审判方面责备他们，是因为这世界的王受了审判。

转忧为喜

17 几个门徒彼此议论说：“祂说，‘不久，你们就见不到我了，再过不久，你们还会看见我’，祂又说，‘因为我要去父那里’，这到底是什么意思呢？ 18 祂说‘不久’是什么意思呢？我们真不明白！”
19 耶稣知道他们想问祂，就说：“你们在议论我刚才说的话是什么意思吗？ 20 我实实在在地告诉你们，你们将痛哭、哀号，世人却要欢喜；你们将忧愁，然而你们的忧愁将变为喜乐。 21 妇人分娩时都会痛苦不已，但孩子生下来后，她就会因为这世界添了一个新生命而充满欢乐，忘掉了生产的痛苦。 22 同样，现在你们有忧愁，但到我再见你们的时候，你们的心必欢喜，而且这份喜乐是谁也夺不去的。

胜过世界
25 “我一直用比喻跟你们讲这些事，不久，我就不再用比喻了，而是清楚地把父的事告诉你们。 26 到那天，你们将要奉我的名祈求，我不是说我要为你们向父祈求。 27 父爱你们，因为你们一直爱我，并且相信我来自上帝。 28 我从父那里来到这个世界，现在我要离开这个世界回到父那里。”
29 门徒说：“如今你直截了当地告诉我们，不再用比喻了。 30 现在我们知道你无所不知，无需人向你发问，因此我们相信你来自上帝。”

16 These things I have spoken to you, that ye be not caused to stumble [that ye be not offended].
2 They shall make you without the synagogues, but the hour cometh, that each man that slayeth you, deem that he doeth service to God.
3 And they shall do to you these things, for they have not known the Father, neither me.
4 But these things I spake to you, that when the hour of them shall come, ye have mind, that I said to you. I said not to you these things from the beginning, for I was with you.
5 And now I go to him that sent me, and no man of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 but for I have spoken to you these things, heaviness hath full-filled your heart [sorrow, or heaviness, hath full-filled your heart].
7 But I say to you truth, it speedeth to you, that I go; for if I go not forth [soothly if I shall not go away], the comforter shall not come to you; but if I go forth [forsooth if I shall go away], I shall send him to you.
8 And when he cometh [And when he shall come], he shall reprove the world of sin, and of rightwiseness, and of doom.
9 Of sin, for they have not believed in me;
10 and of rightwiseness, for I go to the Father, and now ye shall not see me;
11 but of doom, for the prince of this world is now deemed.
12 Yet I have many things to say to you, but ye be not able to bear them now.
13 But when the Spirit of truth cometh [shall come], he shall teach you all truth; for he shall not speak of himself, but whatever things he shall hear, he shall speak; and he shall tell to you those things [and he shall tell to you the things] that be to come.
14 He shall clarify me, for of mine he shall take, and shall tell to you.
15 All things, whatever [things] the Father hath, be mine; therefore I said to you, that of mine he shall take, and shall tell to you.
16 A little, and then ye shall not see me; and again a little, and ye shall see me, for I go to the Father.
17 Therefore some of his disciples said together, What is this thing that he saith to us, A little, and ye shall not see me; and again a little, and ye shall see me, for I go to the Father?
18 Therefore they said, What is this that he saith to us, A little? we know not what he speaketh.
19 And Jesus knew, that they would ask him, and he said to them, Of this thing ye seek among you, for I said, A little, and ye shall not see me; and again a little, and ye shall see me.
20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that ye shall mourn and weep, but the world shall have joy; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall turn into joy.
21 A woman when she beareth child, hath heaviness [hath sorrow, or heaviness], for her time is come; but when she hath born a son, now she thinketh not on the pain, for joy, for a man is born into the world.
22 And therefore ye have now sorrow, but again I shall see you, and your heart shall have joy, and no man shall take from you your joy.
23 And in that day ye shall not ask me any thing; truly, truly, I say to you, if ye ask the Father any thing in my name, he shall give [it] to you.
24 Till now ye asked nothing in my name; ask ye, and ye shall take, that your joy be full.
25 I have spoken to you these things in proverbs; the hour cometh, when now I shall not speak to you in proverbs, but openly of my Father I shall tell to you [I shall tell you].
26 In that day ye shall ask in my name; and I say not to you, that I shall pray the Father for you;
27 for the Father himself loveth you, for ye have loved me, and have believed, that I went out from God.
28 I went out from the Father, and I came into the world; again I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29 His disciples said to him, Lo! now thou speakest openly, and thou sayest no proverb.
30 Now we know, that thou knowest all things; and it is not need to thee [and it is no need to thee], that any man ask thee. In this thing we believe, that thou wentest out from God.
31 Jesus answered to them, Now ye believe.
32 Lo! the hour cometh, and now it cometh, that ye be scattered, each into his own things, and that ye leave me alone; and I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 These things I have spoken to you, that ye have peace in me; in the world ye shall have dis-ease [in the world ye shall have pressing, or overlaying], but trust ye, I have overcome the world.
