15 “我是真葡萄樹,我父是培植的人。 所有屬我而不結果子的枝子,他就剪去;所有結果子的,他就修剪乾淨,讓它結更多的果子。 現在你們因著我對你們所講的道,已經乾淨了。 你們要住在我裡面,我也就住在你們裡面。枝子若不連在葡萄樹上,自己就不能結果子;你們若不住在我裡面,也是這樣。 我是葡萄樹,你們是枝子。住在我裡面的,我也住在他裡面,他就結出很多果子;因為離開了我,你們就不能作甚麼。 人若不住在我裡面,就像枝子丟在外面枯乾了,人把它們拾起來,丟在火裡燒掉了。 你們若住在我裡面,我的話也留在你們裡面;無論你們想要甚麼,祈求,就給你們成就。 這樣,你們結出很多果子,我父就因此得榮耀,你們也就是我的門徒了。 父怎樣愛我,我也怎樣愛你們;你們要住在我的愛裡。 10 如果你們遵守我的命令,就必定住在我的愛裡,正像我遵守了我父的命令,住在他的愛裡一樣。

11 “我把這些事告訴了你們,好讓我的喜樂存在你們心裡,並且使你們的喜樂滿溢。 12 你們要彼此相愛,像我愛你們一樣,這就是我的命令。 13 人為朋友捨命,人間的愛沒有比這個更大的了。 14 你們若行我所吩咐你們的,就是我的朋友了。 15 我不再稱你們為僕人,因為僕人不知道主人所作的事;我已經稱你們為朋友了,因為我從我父那裡聽見的一切,都已經告訴你們了。 16 不是你們揀選了我,而是我揀選了你們,並且分派你們去結果子,就是結常存的果子,使你們奉我的名,無論向父求甚麼,他必定賜給你們。 17 我把這些事吩咐你們,是要你們彼此相愛。

世人恨主也恨門徒

18 “如果世人恨你們,你們要知道他們在恨你們以先,已經恨我了。 19 你們若屬於這世界,世人必定愛屬自己的;但因為你們不屬於世界,而是我從世界中揀選了你們,所以世人就恨你們。 20 你們要記住我對你們說過的話:‘僕人不能大過主人。’他們若迫害我,也必定迫害你們;他們若遵守我的話,也必定遵守你們的話。 21 但他們因著我的名,要向你們行這一切,因為他們不認識那差我來的。 22 如果我沒有來,也沒有對他們講過甚麼,他們就沒有罪;但現在他們的罪是無可推諉的了。 23 恨我的,也恨我的父。 24 如果我沒有在他們中間作過別人沒有作過的事,他們就沒有罪;但現在我和我的父,他們都看見了,也都恨惡。 25 這就應驗了他們律法上所寫的話:‘他們無故地恨我。’

26 “我從父那裡要差來給你們的保惠師,就是從父那裡出來的真理的靈,他來到的時候,要為我作見證。 27 你們也要作見證,因為從開始你們就是跟我在一起的。”

Chapter 15

The Vine and the Branches. [a]“I am the true vine,[b] and my Father is the vine grower.(A) He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does he prunes[c] so that it bears more fruit. You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.(B) Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. [d](C)Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.(D) By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.(E) As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love.(F) 10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.(G)

11 “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.(H) 12 This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.(I) 13 [e]No one has greater love than this,(J) to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends,[f] because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.(K) 16 It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.(L) 17 This I command you: love one another.(M)

The World’s Hatred.[g] 18 “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.(N) 19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.(O) 20 Remember the word I spoke to you,[h] ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.(P) 21 And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,[i] because they do not know the one who sent me.(Q) 22 If I had not come and spoken[j] to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin.(R) 23 Whoever hates me also hates my Father.(S) 24 If I had not done works among them that no one else ever did, they would not have sin; but as it is, they have seen and hated both me and my Father.(T) 25 But in order that the word written in their law[k] might be fulfilled, ‘They hated me without cause.’(U)

26 “When the Advocate comes whom I will send[l] you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.(V) 27 And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.(W)

  1. 15:1–16:4 Discourse on the union of Jesus with his disciples. His words become a monologue and go beyond the immediate crisis of the departure of Jesus.
  2. 15:1–17 Like Jn 10:1–5, this passage resembles a parable. Israel is spoken of as a vineyard at Is 5:1–7; Mt 21:33–46 and as a vine at Ps 80:9–17; Jer 2:21; Ez 15:2; 17:5–10; 19:10; Hos 10:1. The identification of the vine as the Son of Man in Ps 80:15 and Wisdom’s description of herself as a vine in Sir 24:17 are further background for portrayal of Jesus by this figure. There may be secondary eucharistic symbolism here; cf. Mk 14:25, “the fruit of the vine.”
  3. 15:2 Takes away…prunes: in Greek there is a play on two related verbs.
  4. 15:6 Branches were cut off and dried on the wall of the vineyard for later use as fuel.
  5. 15:13 For one’s friends: or: “those whom one loves.” In Jn 15:9–13a, the words for love are related to the Greek agapaō. In Jn 15:13b–15, the words for love are related to the Greek phileō. For John, the two roots seem synonymous and mean “to love”; cf. also Jn 21:15–17. The word philos is used here.
  6. 15:15 Slaves…friends: in the Old Testament, Moses (Dt 34:5), Joshua (Jos 24:29), and David (Ps 89:21) were called “servants” or “slaves of Yahweh”; only Abraham (Is 41:8; 2 Chr 20:7; cf. Jas 2:23) was called a “friend of God.”
  7. 15:18–16:4 The hostile reaction of the world. There are synoptic parallels, predicting persecution, especially at Mt 10:17–25; 24:9–10.
  8. 15:20 The word I spoke to you: a reference to Jn 13:16.
  9. 15:21 On account of my name: the idea of persecution for Jesus’ name is frequent in the New Testament (Mt 10:22; 24:9; Acts 9:14). For John, association with Jesus’ name implies union with Jesus.
  10. 15:22, 24 Jesus’ words (spoken) and deeds (works) are the great motives of credibility. They have seen and hated: probably means that they have seen his works and still have hated; but the Greek can be read: “have seen both me and my Father and still have hated both me and my Father.” Works…that no one else ever did: so Yahweh in Dt 4:32–33.
  11. 15:25 In their law: law is here used as a larger concept than the Pentateuch, for the reference is to Ps 35:19 or Ps 69:5. See notes on Jn 10:34; 12:34. Their law reflects the argument of the church with the synagogue.
  12. 15:26 Whom I will send: in Jn 14:16, 26, the Paraclete is to be sent by the Father, at the request of Jesus. Here the Spirit comes from both Jesus and the Father in mission; there is no reference here to the eternal procession of the Spirit.

Nou menm, avèk tou sa m' moutre nou yo, nou deja nan kondisyon pou n' fè volonte Bondye.

Se pou n' fè yonn ak mwen, menm jan mwen fè yonn ak nou. Yon branch pa ka donnen pou kont li si l' pa fè yonn ak pye rezen an. Konsa tou, nou p'ap kapab donnen si nou pa fè yonn ak mwen.

Mwen se pye rezen an, nou se branch yo. Moun ki fè yonn avè m', moun mwen fè yonn ak li, l'ap donnen anpil, paske nou pa kapab fè anyen san mwen.

Moun ki pa fè yonn ak mwen, y'ap koupe l' voye jete; l'ap cheche tankou yon branch bwa. Lè branch bwa yo cheche, yo ranmase yo, yo jete yo nan dife, yo boule yo.

Si nou fè yonn ak mwen, si nou kenbe pawòl mwen yo nan kè nou, nou mèt mande sa nou vle, y'a ban nou li.

Men ki jan pouvwa Papa m' lan va parèt aklè: se lè nou donnen anpil, lè nou fè wè se disip mwen nou ye.

¶ Jan Papa a renmen m' lan, se konsa mwen renmen nou tou. Nou menm, se pou nou renmen menm jan mwen renmen nou an.

10 Si nou fè tou sa mwen ban nou lòd fè a, n'a renmen m' tou menm jan mwen renmen nou an. Menm jan mwen menm, mwen fè tou sa Papa a te ban m' lòd fè a, mwen renmen l' menm jan li renmen m' tou.

11 Mwen di nou tou sa pou kè kontan m' lan ka nan nou, pou nou ka kontan nèt ale.

12 Men kòmandman m'ap ban nou: Se pou nou yonn renmen lòt menm jan mwen renmen nou.

13 Pa gen pi bon jan pou ou moutre jan ou renmen zanmi ou pase lè ou bay lavi ou pou yo.

14 Nou tout, se zanmi m' nou ye depi nou fè sa m' mande nou fè.

15 Mwen p'ap rele nou domestik, paske yon domestik pa konnen sa mèt li ap fè. M'ap rele nou zanmi paske mwen fè nou konnen tou sa Papa a te moutre mwen.

16 Se pa nou ki chwazi m', se mwen menm ki chwazi nou, ki mete nou apa pou n' ale, pou n' ka donnen, pou donn nou ka konsève. Konsa, Papa a va ban nou nenpòt kisa n'a mande nan non mwen.

17 Wi, men sa m' mande nou: Se pou nou yonn renmen lòt.

18 ¶ Si moun k'ap viv dapre prensip lemonn yo rayi nou, pa bliye yo te rayi m' anvan yo te rayi nou.

19 Si nou te moun lemonn, lemonn ta renmen nou, paske nou ta pou li. Men, mwen chwazi nou, mwen wete nou anba pouvwa lemonn. Se poutèt sa lemonn rayi nou: nou pa moun lemonn ankò.

20 Chonje sa m' te di nou: Yon domestik pa janm pi grannèg pase mèt li. Si yo pèsekite m', y'a pèsekite nou tou. Si yo fè sa m' te moutre yo, y'a fè sa n'a moutre yo tou.

21 Men, y'ap fè nou tou sa poutèt mwen, paske yo pa konnen moun ki te voye m' lan.

22 Si m' pa t' vini, si m' pa t' pale avè yo, yo pa ta antò, yo pa ta fè peche. Men, koulye a yo pa gen eskiz pou peche yo.

23 Moun ki rayi m', li rayi Papa m' tou.

24 Si m' pa t' fè bagay okenn lòt moun pa t' janm fè nan mitan yo, yo pa ta antò, yo pa ta fè peche. Men, koulye a yo wè sa m' fè, yo rayi ni mwen ni Papa mwen.

25 Men, yo fè tou sa pou pawòl ki ekri nan Lalwa yo a te ka rive vre: Yo rayi m' san m' pa fè yo anyen.

26 ¶ Moun ki gen pou ankouraje nou an ap vini, se Lespri k'ap moutre nou verite a, se nan Bondye li soti. Papa a ap ban mwen l' pou m' voye ban nou, la pale nou sou mwen.

27 Nou menm tou, n'a pale sou mwen, paske nou te la avè m' depi nan konmansman.
