14 “你们心里不要愁烦，要信神，也要信我。 2 在我父家里有很多住处。如果没有，我怎么会告诉你们说，我去是要为你们预备地方呢？ 3 我如果去为你们预备了地方，就会再来，接你们到我那里，好使我在哪里，你们也能在哪里。 4 我往哪里去，你们知道；那条路，你们也知道。”
5 多马说：“主啊，我们不知道你要到哪里去，怎么能知道那条路呢？”
6 耶稣说：“我就是道路、真理、生命。要不是藉着我，没有人能到父那里去。
耶稣显明父
7 “如果你们认识我，也就会认识我的父。从今以后，你们就认识他，并且已经看到他了。”
8 腓力说：“主啊，请给我们看看父，我们就满足了。”
9 耶稣回答说：“腓力，我与你们在一起这么久了，你还不认识我吗？一个人看到了我，就是看到了父。你怎么还说‘请给我们看看父’呢？ 10 难道你不相信我就在父里面，父也在我里面吗？我对你们说的话，不是凭自己说的，而是住在我里面的父，在做他的工作。 11 你们当相信我：我在父里面，父也在我里面。即使不信，也当因我所做的事而相信[a]。
奉耶稣的名祈求
12 “我确确实实地告诉你们：我所做的事，信我的人也要做，而且要做比这些更大的事。这是因为我就要到父那里去了。 13 你们奉我的名无论求什么，我将行这事，好使父藉着子得荣耀。 14 如果你们奉我的名向我[b]求什么，我将成就。[c]
应许赐圣灵
15 “你们如果爱我，就会遵守我的命令。[d] 16 我也要向父祈求，他就将赐给你们另一位慰助者，让他与你们在[e]一起，直到永远。 17 他就是真理的灵，是世界不能接受的，因为世界看不到他，也不认识他。而你们认识他，因为他与你们同在，并且要在你们里面。 18 我不会撇下你们为孤儿，我要回到你们这里来。
父、子、圣灵
19 “再过一会儿，世人不再看到我了，而你们将看到我。因为我活着，你们也将活着。 20 在那一天，你们就会明白：我在我父里面，你们在我里面，我也在你们里面。 21 那领受我命令并遵守的人，就是爱我的。爱我的会蒙我父所爱，我也会爱他，并且会向他显明我自己。”
22 不是加略人的那个犹大问耶稣：“主啊，怎么会这样呢？你为什么要向我们显明自己，而不向世人显明呢？”
23 耶稣回答说：“如果有人爱我，他就会遵守我的话语，我父也会爱他，而且我们将要来到他那里，并且在他那里安置我们的住处。 24 不爱我的人，就不遵守我的话语。事实上，你们所听见的话语，不是我的，而是那派我来的父的话语。
25 “我还与你们在一起的时候，已经把这些事告诉了你们。 26 但那位慰助者，就是父以我的名所要派遣的圣灵，将要把一切的事教导你们，并且让你们想起我对你们说过的一切。
耶稣赐平安
27 “我把平安留给你们，我把我的平安赐给你们。我给你们的，不像世界所给的。你们心里不要愁烦，也不要胆怯。 28 你们听过我对你们说：‘我去了，还要回到你们这里来。’如果你们爱我，就会为了我到父那里去而感到欢喜。这是因为父比我更大。 29 如今，在事情发生以前我已经告诉你们了，好让你们在事情发生的时候能相信。 30 我不再对你们多说了。要知道，世界的那掌权者就要来了，而他对我毫无作用。 31 不过我照着父的吩咐如此去做，是为要世界知道我爱父。

14 耶穌繼續說：「你們心裡不要憂愁，你們要信上帝，也要信我。 2 我父的家裡有許多住處，不然我就不會說去為你們安排地方了。 3 我安排好了以後，必定回來接你們到我那裡。我在哪裡，讓你們也在哪裡。 4 你們知道通往我要去的地方的路。」
5 多馬說：「主啊，你要去哪裡，我們還不知道，又怎麼會知道路呢？」
6 耶穌說：「我就是道路、真理、生命，若不藉著我，沒有人能到父那裡。 7 你們若認識我，也會認識我的父。從現在起，你們不但認識祂，而且也看見祂了。」
8 腓力說：「主啊！求你讓我們看看父，我們就心滿意足了。」
9 耶穌說：「腓力，我和你們相處了這麼久，你還不認識我嗎？人看見了我，就看見了父，你怎麼說『讓我們看看父』呢？ 10 難道你不相信我在父裡面，父也在我裡面嗎？我這些話不是憑自己講的，而是住在我裡面的父在做祂自己的工作。 11 你們應當相信我在父裡面，父也在我裡面。即使你們不信，也應該因我所做的而信我。 12 我實實在在地告訴你們，我所做的事，信我的人也要做，而且要做更大的事，因為我要回到父那裡。 13 你們奉我的名無論求什麼，我必應允，好讓父在子身上得到榮耀。 14 你們若奉我的名向我求什麼，我必應允。
應許賜下聖靈
15 「你們若愛我，就必遵守我的命令。 16 我要求父另外賜一位護慰者給你們，祂要永遠和你們同在。 17 祂是真理的靈，世人不接受祂，因為他們看不見祂，也不認識祂；但你們卻認識祂，因祂常與你們同在，並且要住在你們裡面。 18 我不會撇下你們為孤兒，我必到你們這裡來。 19 不久，世人就看不見我了，而你們卻能看見我，因為我活著，你們也要活著。 20 到了那一天，你們就知道我在父裡面，你們在我裡面，我也在你們裡面。 21 接受我的命令又遵行的，就是愛我的人。愛我的，父必定愛他，我也要愛他，並且要親自向他顯現。」

23 耶穌回答說：「愛我的人必遵行我的道，我父也必愛他，並且我們要到他那裡與他同住。 24 不愛我的人不會遵行我的道。你們所聽見的道不是出於我自己，而是出於差我來的父。 25 我還與你們在一起的時候，將這些事情都告訴了你們。 26 但護慰者，就是父為我的名而差來的聖靈，將教導你們一切的事，並使你們想起我對你們說的一切話。 27 我把平安留給你們，把我的平安賜給你們，我賜給你們的平安不像世人給的平安。你們心裡不要憂愁，也不要害怕。

Jesus is the way to the Father
14 Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Do not be sad or afraid. Believe in God, and also believe in me. 2 There are many rooms in my Father's house. I will go now so that I can prepare a place for you there. If it was not true, I would not have told you this. 3 After I have prepared a place for you, I will return. Then I will take you so that you will be with me. You will be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I will go.’
5 Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you will go. So how can we know the way to get there?’ 6 Jesus answered, ‘I am the way. I am the truth. I am the life. Nobody comes to the Father except by me. 7 If you really know me, you will also know my Father. From now on, you do know him and you have seen him.’
8 Philip said, ‘Lord, show the Father to us. That is all that we need.’ 9 Jesus answered, ‘I have been with all of you for a long time. But still you do not seem to know me, Philip! Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. So why do you say, “Show the Father to us”? 10 I am in the Father and the Father is in me. You should believe that. The words that I say to you do not come from me myself. But the Father lives in me, and he is doing his work. 11 I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Believe me when I say that. You have seen the things that I have done. So, if you do not believe my words, believe because of my work. 12 I tell you this: Whoever believes in me will do the same things that I have been doing. Yes, he will do even greater things than these, because I will go to my Father. 13 Ask me to help you. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it for you. In that way, the Son will show everyone how great the Father is. 14 Yes, you should ask me for anything in my name.[a] I will do it for you.’
Jesus promises to send God's Spirit
15 Jesus then said, ‘If you love me, do what I have told you to do. 16 I will ask the Father to help you with this. He will send another Helper to be with you. That Helper will stay with you for ever. 17 He is God's Spirit and he shows you what is true. The people who belong to this world cannot receive him. That is because they cannot see him. They cannot know who he is. But you know him because he stays with you. And he will be in you. 18 I will not let you remain alone, like children without parents. I will come to you.
19 Soon, the people who belong to this world will not see me any more. But you will see me. Because I continue to live, you also will live. 20 On that day, you will know that I am in my Father. You will know that you are in me and I am in you. 21 Those people who obey my commands are the ones who really love me. They accept my words and they do what I say. My Father will love everyone who loves me. I also will love them and I will show myself to them.’
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, ‘Lord, why will you show yourself only to us? Why will you not show yourself also to the people who belong to this world?’
23 Jesus replied, ‘Everyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them. And my Father and I will come to them and we will make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my message. These words that you hear are not my own. No, they come from the Father, who sent me. 25 I have said these things to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Father will send the Holy Spirit to be with you. He will be your Helper. He will come in my name, and he will teach you all things.[b] He will help you to remember everything that I have told you.
27 I will go away but I will give you a gift of peace. It is mine to give and yours to keep. It is not like a gift that this world gives. Do not let yourselves be sad. Do not be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, “I will go away, but I will return to you.” If you loved me, you would be happy because of that. You would be happy because I will go to the Father. And he is greater than I am. 29 I have told you this now, before it happens. So then, when it does happen, you will believe. 30 I will not talk with you much more, because the ruler of this world will come soon. He has no power over me. 31 But the people who belong to this world must learn about me. They must know that I love the Father. I do everything that he tells me to do. I must show that to them. Now get up, we must go from here.’

- 14:14 Jesus says that his disciples should ask for things ‘in his name’. This means ‘because they are his’. So they will ask only for things that God is happy to give to them.
- 14:26 ‘In my name’ here means that the Holy Spirit is like Jesus himself. He teaches us the things that Jesus wants us to learn.
