拉撒路死了
11 有一个患病的人，名叫拉撒路，住在伯大尼，就是马利亚和她姊姊马大的村庄。 2 这马利亚就是后来用香膏抹主，并且用头发把主的脚擦干的那人；患病的拉撒路是她的兄弟。 3 姊妹二人派人到耶稣那里去，说：“主啊，你所爱的人病了。” 4 耶稣听见，就说：“这病不至于死，而是为了 神的荣耀，使 神的儿子因此得到荣耀。” 5 耶稣向来爱马大和她的妹妹马利亚，以及拉撒路。 6 他听说拉撒路病了，仍然在原来的地方住了两天， 7 然后对门徒说：“我们再到犹太去吧。” 8 门徒对他说：“拉比，近来犹太人要拿石头打你，你还到那里去吗？” 9 耶稣说：“白昼不是有十二小时吗？人若在白昼行走，就不会跌倒，因为他看见这世上的光； 10 人若在夜间行走，就会跌倒，因为他没有光。” 11 耶稣说完了这些话，跟着又对他们说：“我们的朋友拉撒路睡了，我要去唤醒他。” 12 门徒说：“主啊，如果他睡了，就会好过来的。” 13 其实耶稣是指着拉撒路的死说的，门徒却以为他是指正常的睡眠说的。 14 于是，耶稣公开地告诉他们：“拉撒路死了。 15 我为你们欢喜，因为我不在那里，是要使你们相信。现在我们到他那里去吧。” 16 那称为“双生子”（“双生子”原文作“低土马”）的多马，对其他的门徒说：“我们也去跟他一同死吧！”
耶稣是复活是生命
17 耶稣到了，知道拉撒路在坟墓里已经四天了。 18 伯大尼靠近耶路撒冷，相距约有三公里。 19 有许多犹太人来到马大和马利亚那里，为了拉撒路的死来安慰她们。 20 马大听见耶稣来了，就去迎接他，马利亚却仍然坐在家里。 21 马大对耶稣说：“主啊，如果你早在这里，我的兄弟就不会死了！ 22 就是现在，我也知道无论你向 神求甚么， 神必赐给你。” 23 耶稣对她说：“你的兄弟必会复活。” 24 马大说：“我知道在末日复活的时候，他必会复活。” 25 耶稣说：“我就是复活和生命；信我的人，虽然死了，也要活着。 26 所有活着又信我的人，必定永远不死，你信这话吗？” 27 她说：“主啊，我信；我已经信了，你是基督，是 神的儿子，是那要到世上来的。”
耶稣使拉撒路复活
28 马大说了这些话，就回去叫她妹妹马利亚，暗暗地说：“老师来了，他叫你。” 29 马利亚一听见，就急忙起来，到耶稣那里去。 30 那时，耶稣还没有进入村子，仍然在马大迎接他的地方。 31 那些在房子里和马利亚在一起安慰她的犹太人，见她匆忙地起来出去，就跟着她，以为她要到坟墓那里去哭。 32 马利亚来到耶稣那里，一看见他，就俯伏在他脚前，说：“主啊，如果你早在这里，我的兄弟就不会死了！” 33 耶稣看见她在哭，和她一同来的犹太人也在哭，就心里激动，难过起来， 34 说：“你们把他安放在哪里？”他们说：“主啊，请来看。” 35 耶稣哭了。 36 于是犹太人说：“你看，他多么爱这个人！” 37 他们中间有人说：“他既然开了瞎子的眼睛，难道不能使这个人不死吗？”
38 耶稣又再心里激动，来到坟墓前面。那坟墓是一个洞穴，洞口有块石头堵住。 39 耶稣说：“把这块石头挪开！”死者的姊姊马大对他说：“主啊，已经四天了，他必定臭了。” 40 耶稣说：“我不是对你说过‘如果你信，就必定看见 神的荣耀’吗？” 41 于是他们把石头挪开。耶稣举目向天，说：“父啊，我感谢你，因为你垂听了我， 42 我知道你常常听我，但我说这话，是为了周围站着的群众，叫他们信是你差了我来。” 43 说了这话，就大声呼喊：“拉撒路，出来！” 44 那死了的人就出来，他的手脚都缠着布，脸上裹着巾。耶稣说：“解开他，让他走！”
祭司长等想杀害耶稣
45 有许多到马利亚那里去的犹太人，看见了耶稣所作的事，就信了他。 46 但他们中间有些人到法利赛人那里去，把耶稣所作的事都告诉他们。 47 于是祭司长和法利赛人召开公议会，说：“这个人行了许多神迹，我们怎么办呢？ 48 我们若让他这样，所有的人都会信他，罗马人就会来，夺取我们的圣地，除灭我们的民族。” 49 他们当中有一位该亚法，是那年作大祭司的，对他们说：“你们甚么都不知道， 50 也不去想想，一个人代替人民死，免得整个民族灭亡，这对你们是有益的。” 51 他说这话不是由于自己，而是因为他是那年的大祭司，所以预言耶稣要替犹太民族死； 52 不但替犹太民族死，也要把散居各地的 神的儿女招聚成为一体。 53 从那天起，他们就想杀害耶稣。
54 因此，耶稣不再在犹太人中间公开活动，却离开那里，到旷野附近的地方去；到了一座名叫以法莲的城，就和门徒住在那里。
55 犹太人的逾越节快到了，有许多人在过节前从各乡上耶路撒冷去，要在那里洁净自己。 56 他们到处寻找耶稣，站在圣殿里的时候，彼此说：“你们认为怎样？他不会来过节吧？” 57 祭司长和法利赛人早已下了命令：如果有人知道耶稣在哪里，就要前来报告，好去逮捕他。

Muerte de Lázaro
11 Había un hombre enfermo llamado Lázaro, que era de Betania, el pueblo de María y su hermana Marta. 2 María era la misma que ungió con perfume al Señor y le secó los pies con sus cabellos. 3 Las dos hermanas mandaron a decirle a Jesús: «Señor, tu amigo querido está enfermo».
4 Cuando Jesús oyó esto, dijo: «Esta enfermedad no terminará en muerte, sino que es para la gloria de Dios, para que por ella el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado».
5 Jesús amaba a Marta, a su hermana y a Lázaro. 6 A pesar de eso, cuando oyó que Lázaro estaba enfermo, se quedó dos días más donde se encontraba. 7 Después dijo a sus discípulos:
—Volvamos a Judea.
8 —Rabí —objetaron ellos—, hace muy poco los judíos intentaron apedrearte, ¿y todavía quieres volver allá?
9 —¿Acaso el día no tiene doce horas? —respondió Jesús—. El que anda de día no tropieza, porque tiene la luz de este mundo. 10 Pero el que anda de noche sí tropieza, porque no tiene luz.
11 Dicho esto, añadió:
—Nuestro amigo Lázaro duerme, pero voy a despertarlo.
12 —Señor —respondieron sus discípulos—, si duerme, es que va a recuperarse.
13 Jesús hablaba de la muerte de Lázaro, pero sus discípulos pensaron que se refería al sueño natural. 14 Por eso les dijo claramente:
—Lázaro ha muerto, 15 y por causa de ustedes me alegro de no haber estado allí, para que crean. Pero vamos a verlo.
16 Entonces Tomás, apodado el Gemelo,[a] dijo a los otros discípulos:
—Vayamos también nosotros para morir con él.
Jesús consuela a las hermanas de Lázaro
17 A su llegada, Jesús se encontró con que Lázaro llevaba ya cuatro días en el sepulcro. 18 Betania estaba cerca de Jerusalén, como a tres kilómetros[b] de distancia, 19 y muchos judíos habían ido a casa de Marta y de María a darles el pésame por la muerte de su hermano. 20 Cuando Marta supo que Jesús llegaba, fue a su encuentro; pero María se quedó en la casa.
21 —Señor —dijo Marta a Jesús—, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. 22 Pero yo sé que aun ahora Dios te dará todo lo que le pidas.
23 —Tu hermano resucitará —le dijo Jesús.
24 —Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección, en el día final —respondió Marta.
25 Entonces Jesús dijo:
—Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí vivirá, aunque muera; 26 y todo el que vive y cree en mí no morirá jamás. ¿Crees esto?
27 Marta dijo:
—Sí, Señor; yo creo que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, el que había de venir al mundo.
28 Dicho esto, Marta regresó a la casa y, llamando a su hermana María, le dijo en privado:
—El Maestro está aquí y te llama.
29 Cuando María oyó esto, se levantó rápidamente y fue a su encuentro. 30 Jesús aún no había entrado en el pueblo, sino que todavía estaba en el lugar donde Marta se había encontrado con él. 31 Los judíos que habían estado con María en la casa, dándole el pésame, al ver que se había levantado y había salido de prisa, la siguieron, pensando que iba al sepulcro a llorar.
32 Cuando María llegó adonde estaba Jesús y lo vio, se arrojó a sus pies y dijo:
—Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto.
33 Al ver llorar a María y a los judíos que la habían acompañado, Jesús se turbó y se conmovió profundamente.
34 —¿Dónde lo han puesto? —preguntó.
—Ven a verlo, Señor —le respondieron.
35 Jesús lloró.
36 —¡Miren cuánto lo quería! —dijeron los judíos.
37 Pero algunos de ellos comentaban:
—Este, que le abrió los ojos al ciego, ¿no podría haber impedido que Lázaro muriera?
Jesús resucita a Lázaro
38 Conmovido una vez más, Jesús se acercó al sepulcro. Era una cueva cuya entrada estaba tapada con una piedra.
39 —Quiten la piedra —ordenó Jesús.
Marta, la hermana del difunto, objetó:
—Señor, ya debe oler mal, pues lleva cuatro días allí.
40 —¿No te dije que si crees verás la gloria de Dios? —le contestó Jesús.
41 Entonces quitaron la piedra. Jesús, alzando la vista, dijo:
—Padre, te doy gracias porque me has escuchado. 42 Ya sabía yo que siempre me escuchas, pero lo dije por la gente que está aquí presente, para que crean que tú me enviaste.
43 Dicho esto, gritó con fuerza:
—¡Lázaro, sal fuera!
44 El muerto salió con vendas en las manos y en los pies, y el rostro cubierto con un sudario.
—Quítenle las vendas y dejen que se vaya —dijo Jesús.
La conspiración para matar a Jesús
45 Muchos de los judíos que habían ido a ver a María y que habían presenciado lo hecho por Jesús creyeron en él. 46 Pero algunos de ellos fueron a ver a los fariseos y les contaron lo que Jesús había hecho. 47 Entonces los jefes de los sacerdotes y los fariseos convocaron una reunión del Consejo.
—¿Qué vamos a hacer? —dijeron—. Este hombre está haciendo muchas señales. 48 Si lo dejamos seguir así, todos van a creer en él. Entonces vendrán los romanos y acabarán con nuestro lugar sagrado, incluso con nuestra nación.
49 Uno de ellos, llamado Caifás, que ese año era el sumo sacerdote, les dijo:
—¡Ustedes no saben nada en absoluto! 50 No entienden que les conviene más que muera un solo hombre por el pueblo y no que perezca toda la nación.
51 Pero esto no lo dijo por su propia cuenta, sino que como era sumo sacerdote ese año profetizó que Jesús moriría por la nación judía 52 y no solo por esa nación, también por los hijos de Dios que estaban dispersos, para congregarlos y unificarlos. 53 Así que desde ese día convinieron en quitarle la vida.
54 Por eso Jesús ya no andaba en público entre los judíos. Se retiró más bien a una región cercana al desierto, a un pueblo llamado Efraín, donde se quedó con sus discípulos.
55 Faltaba poco para la Pascua judía, así que muchos subieron del campo a Jerusalén para su purificación ceremonial antes de la Pascua. 56 Andaban buscando a Jesús y, mientras estaban en el Templo, comentaban entre sí: «¿Qué les parece? ¿Acaso no vendrá a la fiesta?». 57 Por su parte, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los fariseos habían dado la orden de que, si alguien llegaba a saber dónde estaba Jesús, debía denunciarlo para que lo arrestaran.

The Death of Lazarus
11 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany,(A) the village of Mary and her sister Martha.(B) 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)(C) 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love(D) is sick.”
4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory(E) so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, 7 and then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.”(F)
8 “But Rabbi,”(G) they said, “a short while ago the Jews there tried to stone you,(H) and yet you are going back?”
9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light.(I) 10 It is when a person walks at night that they stumble, for they have no light.”
11 After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend(J) Lazarus has fallen asleep;(K) but I am going there to wake him up.”
12 His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” 13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.(L)
14 So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, 15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”
16 Then Thomas(M) (also known as Didymus[a]) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”
Jesus Comforts the Sisters of Lazarus
17 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.(N) 18 Now Bethany(O) was less than two miles[b] from Jerusalem, 19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother.(P) 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.(Q)
21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died.(R) 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”(S)
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection(T) at the last day.”(U)
25 Jesus said to her, “I am(V) the resurrection and the life.(W) The one who believes(X) in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing(Y) in me will never die.(Z) Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah,(AA) the Son of God,(AB) who is to come into the world.”(AC)
28 After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. “The Teacher(AD) is here,” she said, “and is asking for you.” 29 When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him.(AE) 31 When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her,(AF) noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.
32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”(AG)
33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved(AH) in spirit and troubled.(AI) 34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked.
“Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
35 Jesus wept.(AJ)
36 Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”(AK)
37 But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man(AL) have kept this man from dying?”(AM)
Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead
38 Jesus, once more deeply moved,(AN) came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.(AO) 39 “Take away the stone,” he said.
“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”(AP)
40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,(AQ) you will see the glory of God?”(AR)
41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up(AS) and said, “Father,(AT) I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here,(AU) that they may believe that you sent me.”(AV)
43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”(AW) 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen,(AX) and a cloth around his face.(AY)
Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
The Plot to Kill Jesus
45 Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary,(AZ) and had seen what Jesus did,(BA) believed in him.(BB) 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees(BC) called a meeting(BD) of the Sanhedrin.(BE)
“What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs.(BF) 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”
49 Then one of them, named Caiaphas,(BG) who was high priest that year,(BH) spoke up, “You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”(BI)
51 He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, 52 and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.(BJ) 53 So from that day on they plotted to take his life.(BK)
54 Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the people of Judea.(BL) Instead he withdrew to a region near the wilderness, to a village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.
55 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover,(BM) many went up from the country to Jerusalem for their ceremonial cleansing(BN) before the Passover. 56 They kept looking for Jesus,(BO) and as they stood in the temple courts they asked one another, “What do you think? Isn’t he coming to the festival at all?” 57 But the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who found out where Jesus was should report it so that they might arrest him.

11 Un oarecare Lazăr din Betania, satul Mariei(A) şi al Martei, sora ei, era bolnav. 2 Maria era(B) aceea care a uns pe Domnul cu mir şi I-a şters picioarele cu părul ei şi Lazăr cel bolnav era fratele ei. 3 Surorile au trimis la Isus să-I spună: „Doamne, iată că acela pe care-l iubeşti, este bolnav”. 4 Dar Isus, când a auzit vestea aceasta, a zis: „Boala aceasta nu este spre moarte, ci(C) spre slava lui Dumnezeu, pentru ca Fiul lui Dumnezeu să fie proslăvit prin ea”. 5 Şi Isus iubea pe Marta şi pe sora ei şi pe Lazăr. 6 Deci, când a auzit că Lazăr este bolnav, a(D) mai zăbovit două zile în locul în care era 7 şi în urmă a zis ucenicilor: „Haidem să ne întoarcem în Iudeea”. 8 „Învăţătorule”, I-au zis ucenicii, „acum(E), de curând, căutau iudeii să Te ucidă cu pietre, şi Te întorci în Iudeea?” 9 Isus a răspuns: „Nu sunt douăsprezece ceasuri în zi? Dacă(F) umblă cineva ziua, nu se poticneşte, pentru că vede lumina lumii acesteia, 10 dar, dacă(G) umblă noaptea, se poticneşte, pentru că n-are lumina în el.” 11 După aceste vorbe, le-a zis: „Lazăr, prietenul nostru, doarme(H), dar Mă duc să-l trezesc din somn”. 12 Ucenicii I-au zis: „Doamne, dacă doarme, are să se facă bine”. 13 Isus vorbise despre moartea lui, dar ei credeau că vorbeşte despre odihna căpătată prin somn. 14 Atunci, Isus le-a spus pe faţă: „Lazăr a murit. 15 Şi mă bucur că n-am fost acolo, pentru voi, ca să credeţi. Dar acum, haidem să mergem la el.” 16 Atunci, Toma, zis Geamăn, a zis celorlalţi ucenici: „Haidem să mergem şi noi să murim cu El!” 17 Când a venit, Isus a aflat că Lazăr era de patru zile în mormânt. 18 Şi, fiindcă Betania era aproape de Ierusalim, cam la cincisprezece stadii, 19 mulţi din iudei veniseră la Marta şi Maria ca să le mângâie pentru moartea fratelui lor. 20 Când a auzit Marta că vine Isus, I-a ieşit înainte, iar Maria şedea în casă. 21 Marta a zis lui Isus: „Doamne, dacă ai fi fost aici, n-ar fi murit fratele meu! 22 Dar şi acum, ştiu că orice(I) vei cere de la Dumnezeu, Îţi va da Dumnezeu.” 23 Isus i-a zis: „Fratele tău va învia”. 24 „Ştiu(J)”, I-a răspuns Marta, „că va învia la înviere, în ziua de apoi”. 25 Isus i-a zis: „Eu sunt învierea(K) şi viaţa(L). Cine(M) crede în Mine, chiar dacă ar fi murit, va trăi. 26 Şi oricine trăieşte şi crede în Mine nu va muri niciodată. Crezi lucrul acesta?” 27 „Da, Doamne”, I-a zis ea, „cred(N) că Tu eşti Hristosul, Fiul lui Dumnezeu, care trebuia să vină în lume”. 28 După ce a spus aceste vorbe, s-a dus şi a chemat în taină pe soră-sa, Maria, şi i-a zis: „A venit Învăţătorul şi te cheamă”. 29 Maria, cum a auzit, s-a sculat iute şi s-a dus la El. 30 Căci Isus nu intrase încă în sat, ci era tot în locul unde Îl întâmpinase Marta. 31 Iudeii(O), care erau cu Maria în casă şi o mângâiau, când au văzut-o sculându-se iute şi ieşind afară, au mers după ea, căci ziceau: „Se duce la mormânt, ca să plângă acolo”. 32 Maria, când a ajuns unde era Isus şi L-a văzut, s-a aruncat la picioarele Lui şi I-a zis: „Doamne(P), dacă ai fi fost aici, n-ar fi murit fratele meu”. 33 Isus, când a văzut-o plângând, pe ea şi pe iudeii care veniseră cu ea, S-a înfiorat în duhul Lui şi S-a tulburat. 34 Şi a zis: „Unde l-aţi pus?” „Doamne”, I-au răspuns ei, „vino şi vezi”. 35 Isus plângea(Q). 36 Atunci, iudeii au zis: „Iată cât îl iubea de mult!” 37 Şi unii din ei au zis: „El, care(R) a deschis ochii orbului, nu putea face ca nici omul acesta să nu moară?” 38 Isus S-a înfiorat din nou în Sine şi S-a dus la mormânt. Mormântul era o peşteră, la intrarea căreia era aşezată o piatră. 39 „Daţi piatra la o parte”, a zis Isus. Marta, sora mortului, I-a zis: „Doamne, miroase greu, căci este mort de patru zile”. 40 Isus i-a zis: „Nu ţi-am spus că, dacă vei crede, vei vedea(S) slava lui Dumnezeu?” 41 Au luat dar piatra din locul unde zăcea mortul. Şi Isus a ridicat ochii în sus şi a zis: „Tată, Îţi mulţumesc că M-ai ascultat. 42 Ştiam că totdeauna Mă asculţi, dar vorbesc astfel pentru(T) norodul care stă împrejur, ca să creadă că Tu M-ai trimis.” 43 După ce a zis aceste vorbe, a strigat cu glas tare: „Lazăre, vino afară!” 44 Şi mortul a ieşit cu mâinile şi picioarele legate cu făşii de pânză şi cu faţa(U) înfăşurată cu un ştergar. Isus le-a zis: „Dezlegaţi-l şi lăsaţi-l să meargă”. 45 Mulţi din iudeii care veniseră la Maria, când(V) au văzut ce a făcut Isus, au crezut în El. 46 Dar unii din ei s-au dus la farisei şi le-au spus ce făcuse Isus.
Sinedriul hotărăşte să-L omoare
47 Atunci(W), preoţii cei mai de seamă şi fariseii au adunat soborul şi au zis: „Ce(X) vom face? Omul acesta face multe minuni. 48 Dacă-L lăsăm aşa, toţi vor crede în El şi vor veni romanii şi ne vor nimici şi locul nostru, şi neamul.” 49 Unul din ei, Caiafa(Y), care era mare preot în anul acela, le-a zis: „Voi nu ştiţi nimic; 50 oare nu(Z) vă gândiţi că este în folosul vostru să moară un singur om pentru norod, şi să nu piară tot neamul?” 51 Dar lucrul acesta nu l-a spus de la el, ci, fiindcă era mare preot în anul acela, a prorocit că Isus avea să moară pentru neam. 52 Şi(AA) nu numai pentru neamul acela, ci(AB) şi ca să adune într-un singur trup pe copiii lui Dumnezeu cei risipiţi. 53 Din ziua aceea, au hotărât să-L omoare. 54 De aceea(AC) Isus nu mai umbla pe faţă printre iudei, ci a plecat de acolo în ţinutul de lângă pustie, într-o cetate numită Efraim(AD), şi a rămas acolo împreună cu ucenicii Săi.

55 Paştele iudeilor erau(AE) aproape. Şi mulţi oameni din ţinutul acela s-au suit la Ierusalim, înainte de Paşte, ca să se curăţească. 56 Ei(AF) căutau pe Isus şi vorbeau unii cu alţii în Templu: „Ce credeţi? N-are să vină la praznic?” 57 Iar preoţii cei mai de seamă şi fariseii porunciseră că, dacă va şti cineva unde este, să le dea de ştire ca să-L prindă.

11 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35 Jesus wept.
36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
55 And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.
56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?
57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
