Ang Salita ng Diyos
Nagkatawang Tao ang Salita
1 Sa pasimula pa ay naroroon na ang Salita. Ang Salita ay sumasa Diyos at ang Salita ay Diyos.
2 Siya ay sumasa Diyos nang pasimula pa.
3 Ang lahat ng mga bagay ay nilikha sa pamamagitan niya. Kung wala siya ay walanganumang nilikhang bagay na nalikha. 4 Ang buhay ay nasa kaniya at ang buhay ay ang ilaw ng mga tao. 5 Ang ilaw ay nagliwanag sa kadiliman at hindi ito naunawaan ng kadiliman.
6 May isang lalaking isinugong mula sa Diyos. Ang kaniyang pangalan ay Juan. 7 Siya ay naparitong isang saksi na magpatotoo patungkol sa ilaw upang ang lahat ay sumampalataya sa pamamagitan niya. 8 Hindi siya ang ilaw ngunit siya ay sinugo upang magpatotoo patungkol sa ilaw. 9 Ang tunay na ilaw ay iyong tumatanglaw sa bawat taong pumarito sa sanlibutan.
10 Siya ay nasa sanlibutan. Ang sanlibutan ay nilikha sa pamamagitan niya at hindi siya nakilala ng sangkatauhan. 11 Siya ay pumunta sa kaniyang sariling mga tao ngunit hindi siya tinanggap ng kaniyang sariling mga tao. 12 Datapuwat ang lahat ng tumanggap sa kaniya ay binigyan niya ng kapamahalaan maging mga anak ng Diyos. Sila ay ang mga sumampalataya sa kaniyang pangalan. 13 Ipinanganak sila hindi sa dugo, ni sa kalooban ng laman, ni sa kalooban ng tao. Sila ay ipinanganak mula sa Diyos.
14 Nagkatawang-tao ang Salita at nanahang kasama natin. Namasdan namin ang kaniyang kaluwalhatian, ang kaluwalhatian ng bugtong na Anak ng Ama. Ang Salitang ito ay puspos ng biyaya at katotohanan.
15 Si Juan ay nagpapatotoo patungkol sa kaniya. Siya ay sumigaw at nagsabi: Siya ang aking sinasabi na ang paparitong kasunod ko ay mas higit sa akin sapagkat siya ay una sa akin. 16 Mula sa kaniyang kapuspusan ay tumanggap tayong lahat ng abut-abot na biyaya. 17 Ito ay sapagkat ang kautusan ay ibinigay sa pamamagitan ni Moises. Ang biyaya at ang katotohanan ay dumating sa pamamagitan ni Jesucristo. 18 Walang taong nakakita kailanman sa Diyos. Ang bugtong na Anak na nasa piling ng Ama ang naghayag sa kaniya.
Sinabi ni Juan Tagapagbawtismo na Hindi Siya ang Mesiyas
19 Ito ang patotoo ni Juan nang isugo sa kaniya ng mga Judio ang mga saserdote at mga Levita mula sa Jerusalem. Isinugo sa kaniya ang mga saserdote at mga Levita upang tanungin siya: Sino ka?
20 Siya ay nagtapat at hindi nagkaila. Kaniyang ipinagtapat: Hindi ako ang Mesiyas.[a]
21 ? Ikaw ba si Elias?
Sinabi niya: Hindi ako.
Ikaw ba ang propeta?
Siya ay sumagot: Hindi.
22 Sinabi nga nila sa kaniya: Sino ka ba? Sabihin mo sa amin, nang sa gayon ay maibigay namin ang sagot sa nagsugo sa amin. Ano ang masasabi mo patungkol sa iyong sarili?
23 Sinabi niya: Ako ang tinig na sumisigaw sa ilang. Tuwirin ninyo ang daan ng Panginoon tulad ng sinabi ni Isaias na propeta.
24 Ngayon, silang mga sinugo ay nagmula sa mga Fariseo. 25 Tinanong nila siya at sinabi sa kaniya: Bakit ka nagbabawtismo yamang hindi ikaw ang Mesiyas, ni si Elias, ni ang propeta?
26 Sumagot si Juan sa kanila na nagsasabi: Ako ay nagbabawtismo ng tubig, ngunit sa inyong kalagitnaan ay may isang nakatayo na hindi ninyo kilala. 27 Siya ang paparitong kasunod ko na higit kaysa sa akin. Hindi ako karapat-dapat na magkalag ng panali ng kaniyang panyapak.
28 Ang mga bagay na ito ay nangyari sa Betabara, sa ibayo ng Jordan na pinagbabawtismuhan ni Juan.
Si Jesus ang Kordero ng Diyos
29 Kinabukasan nang makita ni Juan si Jesus na papalapit sa kaniya, sinabi niya: Narito, ang Kordero ng Diyos na nag-aalis ng kasalanan ng sangkatauhan.
30 Siya ang aking tinutukoy nang sabihin kong may paparitong kasunod ko, na isang lalaking higit kaysa sa akin sapagkat siya ay una sa akin. 31 Hindi ko siya kilala ngunit upang maihayag siya sa Israel, ako nga ay naparitong nagbabawtismo sa tubig.
32 Nagpatotoo si Juan na nagsasabi: Nakita ko ang Espiritu na bumabang buhat sa langit tulad ng isang kalapati. Ito ay nanahan sa kaniya. 33 Hindi ko siya kilala ngunit ang nagsugo sa akin upang magbawtismo sa pamamagitan ng tubig ay siya ring nagsabi sa akin: Kung kanino mo makikitang bababa at mananahan ang Espiritu, siya ang magbabawtismo ng Banal na Espiritu. 34 Aking nakita at pinatotohanan na siya ang Anak ng Diyos.
Ang mga Unang Alagad ni Jesus
35 Kinabukasan, si Juan ay muling nakatayo roon kasama ang dalawa sa kaniyang mga alagad.
36 Pagtingin niya kay Jesus na naglalakad, sinabi niya: Narito, ang Kordero ng Diyos.
37 Narinig ng dalawang alagad nang siya ay magsalita. Sumunod sila kay Jesus. 38 Paglingon ni Jesus at nakita silang sumusunod. Sinabi niya sa kanila: Ano ang inyong hinahanap?
Sinabi nila sa kaniya:Rabbi, na kung liliwanagin ay Guro, saan ka nakatira?
39 Sinabi niya sa kanila: Halikayo at inyong tingnan.
Sila ay pumaroon at nakita nila ang kaniyang tinitirahan. Nanatili silang kasama niya nang araw na iyon, noon ay mag-iikasampu na ang oras.
40 Ang isa sa dalawang nakarinig kay Juan at sumunod kay Jesus ay si Andres. Siya ay kapatid ni Simon Pedro. 41 Una niyang hinanap ang kaniyang sariling kapatid na si Simon at sinabi sa kaniya: Natagpuan namin ang Mesiyas. Ang kahulugan ng Mesiyas ay Cristo.[b] 42 Isinama ni Andres si Simon kay Jesus.
Tiningnan siya ni Jesus at sinabi: Ikaw ay si Simon na anak ni Jonas, tatawagin kang Cefas. Kung isasalin ang Cefas ay bato.[c]
Tinawag ni Jesus sina Felipe at Natanael
43 Kinabukasan ay ninais ni Jesus na pumunta sa Galilea. Nasumpungan niya si Felipe at sinabi sa kaniya: Sumunod ka sa akin.
44 Si Felipe ay taga-Betsaida na lungsod nina Andres at Pedro. 45 Nasumpungan ni Felipe si Natanael at sinabi sa kaniya: Nasumpungan namin siya, na patungkol sa kaniya ang isinulat ni Moises sa kautusan at isinulat din ng mga propeta. Siya ay si Jesus, ang anak ni Jose na taga-Nazaret.
46 At sinabi ni Natanael sa kaniya: May mabuti bang bagay na magmumula sa Nazaret?
Sinabi sa kaniya ni Felipe: Halika at tingnan mo.
47 Nakita ni Jesus si Natanael na papalapit sa kaniya, sinabi niya ang patungkol kay Natanael: Narito, ang isang totoong taga-Israel, sa kaniya ay walang pandaraya.
48 Sinabi sa kaniya ni Natanael: Papaano mo ako nakilala?
Sumagot si Jesus at sinabi sa kaniya: Bago ka pa tawagin ni Felipe ay nakita na kita nang ikaw ay nasa ilalim ng puno ng igos.
49 Sumagot si Natanael at sinabi sa kaniya: Guro, ikaw ang Anak ng Diyos. Ikaw ang Hari ng Israel.
50 Sumagot si Jesus at sinabi sa kaniya: Sumasampalataya ka ba dahil sinabi kong nakita kita sa ilalim ng puno ng igos? Makikita mo ang mga bagay na mas dakila kaysa sa mga ito. 51 At sinabi ni Jesus sa kaniya: Katotohanan, katotohanang sinasabi ko sa iyo: Mula ngayon ay makikita ninyong bukas ang langit. Makikita ninyo ang mga anghel ng Diyos ay pumapaitaas at bumababa sa Anak ng Tao.

The Word of Life
1 In the beginning was the one
who is called the Word.
The Word was with God
and was truly God.
2 From the very beginning
the Word was with God.
3 And with this Word,
God created all things.
Nothing was made
without the Word.
Everything that was created
4 received its life from him,
and his life gave light
to everyone.
5 The light keeps shining
in the dark,
and darkness has never
put it out.[a]
6 (A) God sent a man named John,
7 who came to tell
about the light
and to lead all people
to have faith.
8 John wasn't this light.
He came only to tell
about the light.
9 The true light that shines
on everyone
was coming into the world.
10 The Word was in the world,
but no one knew him,
though God had made the world
with his Word.
11 He came into his own world,
but his own nation
did not welcome him.
12 Yet some people accepted him
and put their faith in him.
So he gave them the right
to be the children of God.
13 They were not God's children
by nature or because
of any human desires.
God himself was the one
who made them his children.
14 The Word became
a human being
and lived here with us.
We saw his true glory,
the glory of the only Son
of the Father.
From him the complete gifts
of undeserved grace and truth
have come down to us.
15 John spoke about him and shouted, “This is the one I told you would come! He is greater than I am, because he was alive before I was born.”
16 Because of all that the Son is, we have been given one blessing after another.[b] 17 The Law was given by Moses, but Jesus Christ brought us undeserved kindness and truth. 18 No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is truly God and is closest to the Father, has shown us what God is like.
John the Baptist Tells about Jesus
(Matthew 3.1-12; Mark 1.1-8; Luke 3.15-17)
19-20 The religious authorities in Jerusalem sent priests and temple helpers to ask John who he was. He told them plainly, “I am not the Messiah.” 21 (B) Then when they asked him if he were Elijah, he said, “No, I am not!” And when they asked if he were the Prophet,[c] he also said “No!”
22 Finally, they said, “Who are you then? We have to give an answer to the ones who sent us. Tell us who you are!”
23 (C) John answered in the words of the prophet Isaiah, “I am only someone shouting in the desert, ‘Get the road ready for the Lord!’ ”
24 Some Pharisees had also been sent to John. 25 They asked him, “Why are you baptizing people, if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?”
26 John told them, “I use water to baptize people. But here with you is someone you don't know. 27 Even though I came first, I am not good enough to untie his sandals.” 28 John said this as he was baptizing east of the Jordan River in Bethany.[d]
The Lamb of God
29 The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said:
Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 He is the one I told you about when I said, “Someone else will come, who is greater than I am, because he was alive before I was born.” 31 I didn't know who he was. But I came to baptize you with water, so that everyone in Israel would see him.
32 I was there and saw the Spirit come down on him like a dove from heaven. And the Spirit stayed on him. 33 Before this I didn't know who he was. But the one who sent me to baptize with water had told me, “You will see the Spirit come down and stay on someone. Then you will know that he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.” 34 I saw this happen, and I tell you that he is the Son of God.
The First Disciples of Jesus
35 The next day, John was there again, and two of his followers were with him. 36 When he saw Jesus walking by, he said, “Here is the Lamb of God!” 37 John's two followers heard him, and they went with Jesus.
38 When Jesus turned and saw them, he asked, “What do you want?”
They answered, “Rabbi, where do you live?” The Hebrew word “Rabbi” means “Teacher.”
39 Jesus replied, “Come and see!” It was already about four o'clock in the afternoon when they went with him and saw where he lived. So they stayed on for the rest of the day.
40 One of the two men who had heard John and had gone with Jesus was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and tell him, “We have found the Messiah!” The Hebrew word “Messiah” means the same as the Greek word “Christ.”
42 Andrew brought his brother to Jesus. And when Jesus saw him, he said, “Simon son of John, you will be called Cephas.” This name can be translated as “Peter.”[e]
Jesus Chooses Philip and Nathanael
43-44 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. There he met Philip, who was from Bethsaida, the hometown of Andrew and Peter. Jesus said to Philip, “Follow me.”
45 Philip then found Nathanael and said, “We have found the one that Moses and the Prophets[f] wrote about. He is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”
46 Nathanael asked, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”
Philip answered, “Come and see.”
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said, “Here is a true descendant of our ancestor Israel. And he isn't deceitful.”[g]
48 “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.
Jesus answered, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
49 Nathanael said, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God and the King of Israel!”
50 Jesus answered, “Did you believe me just because I said that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see something even greater. 51 (D) I tell you for certain you will see heaven open and God's angels going up and coming down on the Son of Man.”[h]
