問安
1 我這作長老的寫信給親愛的該猶，就是我在真理中所愛的。 2 親愛的，我祝你凡事亨通，身體健壯，正如你的靈魂安泰一樣。 3 有些弟兄來到，證實你心中存有真理，就是你按真理行事，我就非常欣慰。 4 我聽見我的兒女按真理行事，我的喜樂沒有比這更大的了。
稱讚該猶接待弟兄
5 親愛的，你向弟兄所行的，特別是向外地來的弟兄所行的，都是出於忠心。 6 他們在教會面前證實了你的愛；你照著 神所喜悅的，資助他們的旅程，這樣是好的。 7 因為他們為主的名出外，並沒有從教外人接受甚麼。 8 所以我們應當接待這樣的人，好讓我們為了真理成為同工。
不要效法惡，應該效法善
9 我曾經略略寫信給你那裡的教會，但他們中間那好作領袖的丟特腓不接待我們。 10 因此，我來的時候，必要提起他所作的事，就是他用惡言中傷我們；這還不夠，他不但不接待弟兄，還要阻止那些想要接待的人，甚至把他們趕出教會。
11 親愛的，不要效法惡，應該效法善。行善的屬於 神，作惡的沒有見過 神。 12 低米丟行善，有眾人為他作證，真理本身也為他作證。我們也為他作證，你知道我們的見證是真的。

13 我還有許多話要寫給你，可是我不願借用筆墨。 14 我盼望很快就見到你，當面談談。 15 願你平安。這裡的朋友都問候你。請你一一提名問候你那裡的朋友。

该犹的好品行
3 有弟兄们来为你的行为做见证，说你忠心地遵行真理，这使我非常欣慰。 4 没有比听见自己的孩子遵行真理更使我欢喜了。
5 亲爱的弟兄，你常常忠心地照顾素不相识的弟兄， 6 他们把你的爱心告诉了教会。愿你照着上帝所喜悦的方式继续帮助他们， 7 因为他们为了主耶稣的名四处传道，不收取非信徒的任何东西。 8 我们应该接待这样的人，好与他们一同传扬真理。
丢特腓的恶行
9 我曾写信给你那里的教会，但喜欢做领袖的丢特腓不理会我们。 10 因此，我若去你们那里，会提及他的所作所为，就是他怎样恶言中伤我们。不仅如此，他还拒绝接待弟兄，并且禁止别人接待，甚至将接待的人赶出教会。
抑恶扬善
11 亲爱的弟兄，不要效法罪恶，要效法美善。行善的人属于上帝，行恶的人不认识上帝。 12 低米丢得到了众人的好评，真理本身也为他做见证，我们也为他做见证。你们知道我们的见证是真实的。
结语
13 我本来有很多事想跟你谈，但不想用笔墨写给你， 14 只希望可以快快地见到你，跟你当面畅谈。

Greeting
1 The elder:(A)
To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth.(B)
2 Dear friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and are in good health,(C) just as your whole life is going well.[a] 3 For I was very glad when fellow believers came and testified(D) to your fidelity to the truth – how you are walking in truth.(E) 4 I have no greater joy(F) than this: to hear that my children(G) are walking in truth.
Gaius Commended
5 Dear friend, you are acting faithfully in whatever you do for the brothers and sisters, especially when they are strangers. 6 They have testified to your love before the church.(H) You will do well to send them on their journey(I) in a manner worthy of God,(J) 7 since they set out for the sake of the Name,(K) accepting nothing from pagans.[b](L) 8 Therefore, we ought to support such people so that we can be co-workers with the truth.
Diotrephes and Demetrius
9 I wrote something to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have first place among them,(M) does not receive our authority.(N) 10 This is why, if I come, I will remind him of the works he is doing, slandering(O) us with malicious words. And he is not satisfied with that! He not only refuses to welcome fellow believers, but he even stops those who want to do so and expels them from the church.
11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil,(P) but what is good. The one who does good is of God;(Q) the one who does evil has not seen God.(R) 12 Everyone speaks well of Demetrius – even the truth itself. And we also speak well of him, and you know(S) that our testimony is true.(T)
Farewell
13 I have many things to write to you, but I don’t want to write to you with pen and ink. 14 I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.
15 Peace to you. The friends send you greetings. Greet the friends by name.
