问安
1 我这作长老的写信给亲爱的该犹，就是我在真理中所爱的。 2 亲爱的，我祝你凡事亨通，身体健壮，正如你的灵魂安泰一样。 3 有些弟兄来到，证实你心中存有真理，就是你按真理行事，我就非常欣慰。 4 我听见我的儿女按真理行事，我的喜乐没有比这更大的了。
称赞该犹接待弟兄
5 亲爱的，你向弟兄所行的，特别是向外地来的弟兄所行的，都是出于忠心。 6 他们在教会面前证实了你的爱；你照着 神所喜悦的，资助他们的旅程，这样是好的。 7 因为他们为主的名出外，并没有从教外人接受甚么。 8 所以我们应当接待这样的人，好让我们为了真理成为同工。
不要效法恶，应该效法善
9 我曾经略略写信给你那里的教会，但他们中间那好作领袖的丢特腓不接待我们。 10 因此，我来的时候，必要提起他所作的事，就是他用恶言中伤我们；这还不够，他不但不接待弟兄，还要阻止那些想要接待的人，甚至把他们赶出教会。
11 亲爱的，不要效法恶，应该效法善。行善的属于 神，作恶的没有见过 神。 12 低米丢行善，有众人为他作证，真理本身也为他作证。我们也为他作证，你知道我们的见证是真的。

13 我还有许多话要写给你，可是我不愿借用笔墨。 14 我盼望很快就见到你，当面谈谈。 15 愿你平安。这里的朋友都问候你。请你一一提名问候你那里的朋友。

1 我这做长老的写信给亲爱的该犹，就是我本着真理所爱的人。 2 亲爱的弟兄，衷心地祝你凡事顺利，身体和灵魂一样健康。
该犹的好品行
3 有弟兄们来为你的行为做见证，说你忠心地遵行真理，这使我非常欣慰。 4 没有比听见自己的孩子遵行真理更使我欢喜了。
5 亲爱的弟兄，你常常忠心地照顾素不相识的弟兄， 6 他们把你的爱心告诉了教会。愿你照着上帝所喜悦的方式继续帮助他们， 7 因为他们为了主耶稣的名四处传道，不收取非信徒的任何东西。 8 我们应该接待这样的人，好与他们一同传扬真理。
丢特腓的恶行
9 我曾写信给你那里的教会，但喜欢做领袖的丢特腓不理会我们。 10 因此，我若去你们那里，会提及他的所作所为，就是他怎样恶言中伤我们。不仅如此，他还拒绝接待弟兄，并且禁止别人接待，甚至将接待的人赶出教会。
抑恶扬善
11 亲爱的弟兄，不要效法罪恶，要效法美善。行善的人属于上帝，行恶的人不认识上帝。 12 低米丢得到了众人的好评，真理本身也为他做见证，我们也为他做见证。你们知道我们的见证是真实的。
结语
13 我本来有很多事想跟你谈，但不想用笔墨写给你， 14 只希望可以快快地见到你，跟你当面畅谈。

Help Christians Who Teach Truth
1 From the Elder.[a]
To my dear friend Gaius whom I love in the truth:[b]
2 My dear friend, I know your soul is doing well. I pray that you are doing fine in every way and that your health is good. 3 Some brothers in Christ came and told me about the truth in your life. They said that you are following the way of truth. This made me very happy. 4 It always gives me the greatest joy when I hear that my children are following the way of truth.
5 My dear friend, it is good that you continue to help the brothers. You are helping those that you do not even know! 6 These brothers told the church about the love you have. Please help them to continue their trip. Help them in a way that will please God. 7 They started out on their trip to serve Christ. They did not accept any help from those who are not believers. 8 So we should help these brothers. And when we do, we share in their work for the truth.
9 I wrote a letter to the church. But Diotrephes will not listen to what we say. He always wants to be their leader. 10 When I come, I will talk about what Diotrephes is doing. He lies and says evil things about us. But that is not all he does. He refuses to help those who are working to serve Christ. He also stops those who want to help the brothers and puts them out of the church.
11 My dear friend, do not follow what is bad; follow what is good. He who does what is good is from God. But he who does evil has never known God.
12 Everyone says good things about Demetrius. And the truth agrees with what they say. Also, we say good about him. And you know that what we say is true.
13 I have many things I want to tell you, but I do not want to use pen and ink. 14 I hope to visit you soon. Then we can be together and talk. 15 Peace to you. The friends here with me send their love. Please give our love to each one of the friends there.

1 El anciano,
al querido hermano Gayo, a quien amo en la verdad.
2 Querido hermano, oro para que te vaya bien en todos tus asuntos y goces de buena salud, así como prosperas espiritualmente. 3 Me alegré mucho cuando vinieron unos hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu fidelidad[a] y de cómo estás viviendo en la verdad. 4 Nada me produce más alegría que oír que mis hijos viven en la verdad.
5 Querido hermano, te comportas fielmente en todo lo que haces por los hermanos, aunque no los conozcas. 6 Delante de la iglesia ellos han dado testimonio de tu amor. Harás bien en ayudarlos a seguir su viaje, como es digno de Dios. 7 Ellos salieron por causa del Nombre, sin nunca recibir nada de los paganos; 8 nosotros, por lo tanto, debemos brindarles hospitalidad y así colaborar con ellos en la verdad.
9 Escribí algunas líneas a la iglesia, pero Diótrefes, a quien le encanta ser el primero entre ellos, no nos acepta. 10 Por eso, si voy, no dejaré de reprocharle su comportamiento, pues con palabras malintencionadas, habla contra nosotros solo por hablar. Como si fuera poco, ni siquiera recibe a los hermanos y a quienes quieren hacerlo, no los deja y los expulsa de la iglesia.
11 Querido hermano, no imites lo malo, sino lo bueno. El que hace lo bueno es de Dios; el que hace lo malo no ha visto a Dios. 12 En cuanto a Demetrio, todos dan buen testimonio de él, incluso la verdad misma. También nosotros lo recomendamos y bien sabes que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.
13 Tengo muchas cosas que decirte, pero prefiero no hacerlo por escrito. 14 Espero verte muy pronto, entonces hablaremos personalmente.
15 La paz sea contigo.
Tus amigos aquí te mandan saludos. Saluda a los amigos allá, a cada uno en particular.
