5 Każdy, kto wierzy, że Jezus jest Chrystusem, narodził się z Boga, a każdy, kto miłuje tego, który zrodził, miłuje też tego, który się z niego narodził.
2 Po tym poznajemy, że miłujemy dzieci Boże, gdy miłujemy Boga i zachowujemy jego przykazania.
3 Na tym bowiem polega miłość Boga, że zachowujemy jego przykazania, a jego przykazania nie są ciężkie.
4 Bo wszystko, co się narodziło z Boga, zwycięża świat. A tym zwycięstwem, które zwyciężyło świat, jest nasza wiara.
5 Kto zwycięża świat, jeśli nie ten, kto wierzy, że Jezus jest Synem Bożym?
6 To jest ten, który przyszedł przez wodę i krew, Jezus Chrystus, nie tylko w wodzie, ale w wodzie i we krwi; a Duch jest tym, który świadczy, bo Duch jest prawdą.
7 Trzej bowiem świadczą w niebie: Ojciec, Słowo i Duch Święty, a ci trzej jedno są.
8 A trzej świadczą na ziemi: Duch, woda i krew, a ci trzej są zgodni.
9 Jeśli przyjmujemy świadectwo ludzi, to świadectwo Boga jest większe. To bowiem jest świadectwo Boga, które dał o swoim Synu.
10 Kto wierzy w Syna Bożego, ma świadectwo w sobie. Kto nie wierzy Bogu, zrobił z niego kłamcę, bo nie uwierzył świadectwu, które Bóg dał o swoim Synu.
11 A to świadectwo jest takie, że Bóg dał nam życie wieczne, a to życie jest w jego Synu.
12 Kto ma Syna, ma życie, kto nie ma Syna Bożego, nie ma życia.
13 To napisałem wam, którzy wierzycie w imię Syna Bożego, abyście wiedzieli, że macie życie wieczne i abyście wierzyli w imię Syna Bożego.
14 Taka zaś jest ufność, którą mamy do niego, że jeśli o coś prosimy zgodnie z jego wolą, wysłuchuje nas.
15 A jeśli wiemy, że nas wysłuchuje, o cokolwiek prosimy, wtedy wiemy, że otrzymujemy to, o co go prosiliśmy.
16 Jeśli ktoś widzi swego brata, który popełnia grzech nie na śmierć, niech się za niego modli, a Bóg da mu życie, to jest tym, którzy popełniają grzech nie na śmierć. Jest grzech na śmierć. Nie mówię, aby ktoś modlił się za to.
17 Wszelka niesprawiedliwość jest grzechem, jest jednak grzech nie na śmierć.
18 Wiemy, że każdy, kto się narodził z Boga, nie grzeszy, ale kto się narodził z Boga, zachowuje samego siebie, a zły go nie dotyka.
19 Wiemy, że jesteśmy z Boga, a cały świat tkwi w niegodziwości.
20 A wiemy, że Syn Boży przyszedł i dał nam rozum, abyśmy poznali prawdziwego Boga, i jesteśmy w tym prawdziwym, to jest w jego Synu, Jezusie Chrystusie. On jest prawdziwym Bogiem i życiem wiecznym.
21 Dzieci, wystrzegajcie się bożków. Amen.

Overcoming the World
5 (A)Everyone who believes that Jesus is the [a]Christ has been (B)born of God, and everyone who loves the [b]Father (C)loves the child born of Him. 2 (D)By this we know that (E)we love the children of God, when we love God and [c]follow His commandments. 3 For (F)this is the love of God, that we (G)keep His commandments; and (H)His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For [d]whoever has been (I)born of God (J)overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.
5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but the one who (K)believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is the One who came (L)by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not [e]with the water only, but [f]with the water and [g]with the blood. It is (M)the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are (N)three that testify: 8 [h]the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are [i]in agreement. 9 (O)If we receive the testimony of people, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that (P)He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God (Q)has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has (R)made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us (S)eternal life, and (T)this life is in His Son. 12 (U)The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
This Is Written That You May Know
13 (V)These things I have written to you who (W)believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have (X)eternal life. 14 This is (Y)the confidence which we have [j]before Him, that, (Z)if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, (AA)we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
16 If anyone sees his brother or sister [k]committing a sin not leading to death, (AB)he shall ask and [l]God will, for him, give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. (AC)There is sin leading to death; (AD)I am not saying that he should ask about that. 17 (AE)All unrighteousness is sin, and (AF)there is sin not leading to death.
18 (AG)We know that (AH)no one who has been born of God [m]sins; but He who was born of God (AI)keeps him, and (AJ)the evil one does not (AK)touch him. 19 (AL)We know that (AM)we are of God, and that (AN)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And (AO)we know that (AP)the Son of God has come, and has (AQ)given us understanding so that we may know (AR)Him who is true; and we (AS)are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. (AT)This is the true God and (AU)eternal life.
21 (AV)Little children, guard yourselves from (AW)idols.

La fe que vence al mundo
5 Si creemos que Jesús es el Cristo, somos hijos de Dios. Ahora bien, no es posible amar al padre sin amar también al que es hijo del mismo padre. 2 Y conocemos que estamos amando a los hijos de Dios, cuando de veras amamos a Dios cumpliendo sus mandamientos, 3 puesto que amar a Dios consiste en cumplir sus mandamientos. No se trata, por lo demás, de preceptos insoportables, 4 ya que los hijos de Dios están equipados para vencer al mundo. Nuestra fe, en efecto, es la que vence al mundo, 5 pues quien cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, triunfará sobre el mundo. 6 Jesucristo ha venido con agua y sangre; no sólo con el agua, sino con el agua y la sangre. Y el Espíritu, que es la verdad, da testimonio de esto. 7 Porque los testigos son tres: 8 el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre. Y los tres están de acuerdo. 9 Nosotros aceptamos testimonios humanos; pues bien, el testimonio de Dios es mucho más digno de crédito y consiste en haber declarado a favor de su Hijo. 10 Por eso, si creemos en el Hijo de Dios, es que hemos aceptado el testimonio de Dios. Pero quien no se fía de Dios ni presta crédito al testimonio que él ha dado en favor de su Hijo, está acusando a Dios de mentiroso. 11 Y lo que se testifica es que Dios nos ha dado la vida eterna y que esa vida está en su Hijo. 12 Quien vive unido al Hijo, tiene la vida; quien no vive unido al Hijo de Dios, no tiene la vida.
Conclusión (5,13-21)
Vida y muerte eternas
13 A ustedes, los que creen en el Hijo de Dios, les he escrito todo esto para hacerles saber que poseen la vida eterna. 14 Tenemos plena confianza en que, si algo pedimos a Dios tal y como él quiere, nos atenderá. 15 Y si estamos seguros de que Dios siempre nos atiende, lo estamos también de conseguir lo que le pedimos.
16 Hay hermanos que cometen pecados que no llevan a la muerte. Debemos orar por ellos para que Dios les dé la vida. Pero sólo si se trata de pecados que no llevan a la muerte. En cambio, no mando rogar por quien comete el pecado que lleva a la muerte. 17 Cierto que toda mala conducta es pecado, pero hay pecados que no llevan a la muerte.
El Hijo de Dios nos protege
18 En cuanto a nosotros, sabemos que todos los que han nacido de Dios no siguen pecando, pues el Hijo de Dios los protege y los mantiene lejos del alcance del maligno. 19 Sabemos también que somos de Dios, mientras que el mundo entero está sometido al maligno. 20 Sabemos, en fin, que el Hijo de Dios ha venido y ha iluminado nuestras mentes para que conozcamos al Verdadero. Y nosotros estamos unidos al Verdadero y a su Hijo Jesucristo, que es Dios verdadero y vida eterna. 21 Hijos míos, manténganse alejados de la idolatría.
