神的灵和敌基督的灵
4 各位蒙爱的人哪，你们不要每一个灵都相信，而要分辨这些灵是否出于神，因为有许多假先知已经在世上出现了。
2 你们从这一点就认出神的灵：任何灵承认耶稣基督是以肉身而来的[a]，这灵就是出于神； 3 任何灵不承认耶稣[b]的，这灵就不是出于神，而是那敌基督者的灵。你们听说过这灵要来，而它现在已经在世上了。
4 孩子们哪，你们属于神，而且你们已经胜过了假先知们[c]，因为那在你们里面的，比那在世界上的更大。 5 他们属于世界，所以他们说的属于世界，而世界也听从他们。 6 我们属于神，那认识神的，就听从我们；那不属于神的，就不听从我们。由此，我们就认出真理的灵和迷惑人的灵。
在爱中认识神
7 各位蒙爱的人哪，让我们彼此相爱，因为爱是出于神的。凡是有爱的，都由神所生，并且认识神； 8 那没有爱的，就不认识神，因为神就是爱。 9 神差派了自己的独生子到世上来，好使我们能藉着他而活；如此，属神的爱就在我们里面显明了。 10 并不是我们爱了神，而是神爱了我们，差派他的儿子来，为我们的罪孽做了平息祭[d]——在这里就是爱了。 11 各位蒙爱的人哪，既然神如此爱我们，我们也应该彼此相爱。 12 从来没有人见过神；如果我们彼此相爱，神就住在我们里面，他的爱也就在我们里面得以完全。
13 我们从这一点知道：我们住在他里面，而他也住在我们里面，是因为神把他的灵赐给了我们； 14 我们已经见过，并且现在见证：父差派子做世界的救主， 15 凡是承认耶稣是神儿子的，神就住在他里面，他也住在神里面。 16 这样，我们已经认识并相信了神对我们所怀的爱。神就是爱；那住在爱里面的，就住在神里面，神也住[e]在他里面。
17 从这一点，爱在我们里面得以完全，使我们在审判的日子可以坦然无惧，因为基督[f]怎样，我们在这世上也怎样。 18 爱里没有惧怕；相反，完美的爱能除去惧怕，因为惧怕带有惩罚；而那惧怕的，在爱里没有得以完全。 19 我们爱[g]，是因为他先爱了我们。
遵守神的命令
20 如果有人说“我爱神”，却恨自己的弟兄，他就是说谎者，因为一个人不爱自己所看到的弟兄，就不能爱没有看到的神。[h] 21 这是我们从基督[i]所领受的命令：爱神的，也要爱自己的弟兄。

4 Amados, no creáis a todo espíritu, sino probad los espíritus si son de Dios; porque muchos falsos profetas han salido por el mundo. 2 En esto conoced el Espíritu de Dios: Todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne, es de Dios; 3 y todo espíritu que no confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne, no es de Dios; y este es el espíritu del anticristo, el cual vosotros habéis oído que viene, y que ahora ya está en el mundo. 4 Hijitos, vosotros sois de Dios, y los habéis vencido; porque mayor es el que está en vosotros, que el que está en el mundo. 5 Ellos son del mundo; por eso hablan del mundo, y el mundo los oye. 6 Nosotros somos de Dios; el que conoce a Dios, nos oye; el que no es de Dios, no nos oye. En esto conocemos el espíritu de verdad y el espíritu de error.
Dios es amor
7 Amados, amémonos unos a otros; porque el amor es de Dios. Todo aquel que ama, es nacido de Dios, y conoce a Dios. 8 El que no ama, no ha conocido a Dios; porque Dios es amor. 9 En esto se mostró el amor de Dios para con nosotros, en que Dios envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo, para que vivamos por él. 10 En esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó a nosotros, y envió a su Hijo en propiciación por nuestros pecados. 11 Amados, si Dios nos ha amado así, debemos también nosotros amarnos unos a otros. 12 Nadie ha visto jamás a Dios.(A) Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros, y su amor se ha perfeccionado en nosotros.
13 En esto conocemos que permanecemos en él, y él en nosotros, en que nos ha dado de su Espíritu. 14 Y nosotros hemos visto y testificamos que el Padre ha enviado al Hijo, el Salvador del mundo. 15 Todo aquel que confiese que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece en él, y él en Dios. 16 Y nosotros hemos conocido y creído el amor que Dios tiene para con nosotros. Dios es amor; y el que permanece en amor, permanece en Dios, y Dios en él. 17 En esto se ha perfeccionado el amor en nosotros, para que tengamos confianza en el día del juicio; pues como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo. 18 En el amor no hay temor, sino que el perfecto amor echa fuera el temor; porque el temor lleva en sí castigo. De donde el que teme, no ha sido perfeccionado en el amor. 19 Nosotros le amamos a él, porque él nos amó primero. 20 Si alguno dice: Yo amo a Dios, y aborrece a su hermano, es mentiroso. Pues el que no ama a su hermano a quien ha visto, ¿cómo puede amar a Dios a quien no ha visto? 21 Y nosotros tenemos este mandamiento de él: El que ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano.

On Denying the Incarnation
4 Dear friends,(A) do not believe every spirit,(B) but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.(C) 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh(D) is from God,(E) 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist,(F) which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.(G)
4 You, dear children,(H) are from God and have overcome them,(I) because the one who is in you(J) is greater than the one who is in the world.(K) 5 They are from the world(L) and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.(M) This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth(N) and the spirit of falsehood.(O)
God’s Love and Ours
7 Dear friends, let us love one another,(P) for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God(Q) and knows God.(R) 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.(S) 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son(T) into the world that we might live through him.(U) 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us(V) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.(W) 11 Dear friends,(X) since God so loved us,(Y) we also ought to love one another.(Z) 12 No one has ever seen God;(AA) but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.(AB)
13 This is how we know(AC) that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.(AD) 14 And we have seen and testify(AE) that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.(AF) 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,(AG) God lives in them and they in God.(AH) 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love.(AI) Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.(AJ) 17 This is how love is made complete(AK) among us so that we will have confidence(AL) on the day of judgment:(AM) In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,(AN) because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us.(AO) 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister(AP) is a liar.(AQ) For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen,(AR) cannot love God, whom they have not seen.(AS) 21 And he has given us this command:(AT) Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.(AU)

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
