2 我的孩子们哪，我把这些事写给你们，免得你们犯罪。但如果有人犯了罪，在父那里我们有一位辩护者，就是那义者耶稣基督。 2 他自己为我们的罪孽做了平息祭[a]，不仅是为我们的罪，也是为全世界的罪。
神的命令
3 如果我们遵守基督[b]的命令，从这一点我们就知道我们已经认识他。 4 那说“我已经认识他”，却不遵守他命令的，就是说谎者，真理也不在这个人里面； 5 但如果有人遵守他的话语，属神的爱就确实在这个人里面得以完全了；从这一点我们就知道我们是在他里面。 6 那说自己住在他里面的，自己也应该按基督[c]所行的照样去行。
7 各位蒙爱的人哪[d]，我写给你们的不是一条新命令，而是你们从起初就有的旧命令；这条旧命令就是你们[e]所听过的那话[f]。 8 另一方面，我写给你们的也是一条新命令；这命令在他、在你们，都是真实的，因为黑暗正在消逝，真光已经在照耀。
9 那说自己在光里却恨自己弟兄的，至今还在黑暗里； 10 那爱自己弟兄的，就住在光里，而且在他里面[g]没有什么绊脚的事； 11 但那恨自己弟兄的，就是在黑暗里，并且在黑暗里行走，也不知道自己往哪里去，因为黑暗使他的眼睛瞎了。
写信的理由
12 孩子们哪，我写信给你们，
因为你们的罪孽藉着基督[h]的名已经被赦免了；
13 父老们哪，我写信给你们，
因为你们已经认识了从太初就有的那一位；
年轻人哪，我写信给你们，
因为你们已经胜过了那恶者。
14 孩子们哪，我写了信给你们，
因为你们已经认识了父；
父老们哪，我写了信给你们，
因为你们已经认识了从太初就有的那一位；
年轻人哪，我写了信给你们，
因为你们是强壮的，
神的话语[i]住在你们里面，
你们也已经胜过了那恶者。
不要爱世界
15 你们不要爱世界，也不要爱世界上的事物。如果有人爱世界，父的爱[j]就不在他里面了。 16 原来世界上一切肉体的欲望、眼目的欲望、今生的骄傲，都不是出于父，而是出于世界的。 17 世界和属世的欲望正在消逝；但那遵行神旨意的，却永远长存。
末后的时刻
18 孩子们哪，现在是末后的时期了。正如你们听说过敌基督的要来，现在确实已经有许多敌基督的出现了；故此我们知道，现在是末后的时期了。 19 他们从我们中间出去，但他们本来就不属于我们，因为他们如果属于我们，就会留下与我们在一起；不过这样就显明出，他们都不属于我们。
20 至于你们，你们从那位圣者领受了恩膏，并且你们大家都已经知道了这事[k]。 21 我写了信给你们，不是因为你们不认识真理，而是因为你们已经认识了真理，又因为一切虚假都不是出于真理。 22 谁是说谎者呢？难道不是那否认耶稣是基督的吗？那否认父和子的，这个人就是敌基督的。 23 所有否认子的，就没有父；那承认子的，连父也有了。
留在神里面
24 你们应当使那从起初所听到的，住在你们里面。如果那从起初所听到的住在你们里面，你们就会住在子里面，也住在父里面。 25 这就是那应许，是他所应许我们的，就是永恒的生命。 26 我写给你们的这些，是关于迷惑你们之人的。
27 至于你们，你们从那一位所领受的恩膏住在你们里面，这样你们就不需要人来教导你们。其实，就像他的恩膏在一切事上所教导你们的——是真实的，不是虚假的——又像他曾经所教导的，你们要住在他里面。
神的儿女
28 如今，孩子们哪，你们当住在他里面，好使他显现的时候，我们可以坦然无惧，他来临的时候，我们可以在他面前不至于蒙羞。 29 你们如果知道他是公义的，也就知道所有行义的人，都是由他所生的。

耶稣是我们的助手
2 我亲爱的孩子，我写信告诉你们这些事，是为了让你们不再犯罪。但是如果有人犯罪，我们有耶稣基督来帮助我们。他是那位义者，他会在上帝面前为我们辩护。 2 耶稣是除去我们罪孽的祭品，他不仅仅只是为了我们，也是为全人类而牺牲的。
3 如果我们遵守上帝的命令，我们就能肯定，我们真正地认识上帝。 4 如果一个人说“我认识上帝！”，但却不遵守上帝的命令，他就是说谎者，真理就不在他之中。 5 遵守上帝教导的人，他对上帝的爱在他之中会真正地得以实现。这就是我们如何知道我们在遵守上帝的教导的方法： 6 如果一个人说自己生活在上帝之中，他就必须像耶稣那样生活。
上帝告诉我们爱人
7 亲爱的朋友，我写给你们的不是一条新的命令，它是那条你们从一开始就接受了的命令，这条旧命令是你们已经听过的教导。 8 然而，我还是把这条命令做为新的命令写给你们。这条命令是真实的，你们能在基督和你们自己的生活中看到它的真理。黑暗已经逝去，真正的光已在闪烁。
9 如果有人说他生活在光之中，但却憎恨他的兄弟，那么，他仍然生活在黑暗（罪）之中。 10 爱自己兄弟的人才生活在这光之中。在他之中，没有任何使人犯罪的东西！ 11 憎恨兄弟的人处在黑暗之中。他生活在黑暗之中，不知自己要去何方，因为黑暗使他盲目。
12 亲爱的孩子，我写信给你们，
因为你们的罪恶已通过基督而得到宽恕。
13 我写信给你们做父亲的，
因为你们知道从一开始就存在的那位。
我写信给你们年轻人，
因为你们战胜了那个邪恶者（魔鬼）。
14 孩子们，我写信给你们，
因为你们认识父。
我写信给你们做父亲的，
因为你们知道一开始就存在的那位。
我写信给你们年轻人，
因为你们强壮有力，
上帝的信息生活在你们之中。
你们已战胜了那个邪恶者。
15 不要爱这个世界或世上的东西。如果一个人爱这个世界，他心中就没有对上帝的爱。 16 这些是世上的邪恶事物：
满足我们罪恶自我的欲望；
对我们所见的罪恶事物的欲望
和对我们拥有的东西骄傲。
这些东西都不是来自于父（上帝），而是来自于这个世界。 17 这个世界正在消逝，人们在世上所欲望的东西也在消逝。但是，执行上帝旨意的人会永远活着。
不要跟随基督的敌人
18 我的孩子，终结近在咫尺。你们已经听说基督的敌人要来。他的许多敌人已经出现在这里了。所以我们知道终结临近了。 19 基督的敌人曾在我们中间，但是他们已离开了我们。他们从来就没有真正地属于过我们。假如他们真正属于我们，他们就会和我们呆在一起。但是，他们离开了，这就表明他们没人真正属于我们。
20 你们都领受了那位圣者（上帝或基督）给你们的恩赐，所以你们都应该认识真理。 21 我写信给你们，不是因为你们不认识真理，而是因为你们的确认识真理，并且知道谎言不会出自真理。
22 那么谁是说谎者呢？不正是否认耶稣是基督的人吗？这种人就是基督的敌人，他既不信仰父，也不信仰他的儿子（基督）。 23 不信仰子（基督）的人，就没有父；接受子的人，就有父。
24 你们必须继续服从你们一开始所听到的教导，这样，你们就会在子（基督）和父（上帝）之中。 25 这就是基督应许给我们的永生。
26 我写这封信给你们，是关于那些企图引诱你们误入歧途的人。 27 基督给了你们一份特殊的恩赐 [a]。这份恩赐仍然在你们之中。所以你们不需要任何人去教导你们。给你们的恩赐会把一切事情教导给你们的。这恩赐是真实的，不是虚假的。所以，你们要继续生活在基督之中，就像他给你们的恩赐教导你们的那样。
28 所以，我亲爱的孩子，你们要生活在基督之中，这样，在他再来的那天，我们就可以无所畏惧（有信心），就不会躲藏或感到羞愧。 29 你们知道耶稣是正义的（好的），所以你们知道：所有做正义（好）事情的人，都是上帝的孩子。

2 My dear children,(A) I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate(B) with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins,(C) and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.(D)
Love and Hatred for Fellow Believers
3 We know(E) that we have come to know him(F) if we keep his commands.(G) 4 Whoever says, “I know him,”(H) but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.(I) 5 But if anyone obeys his word,(J) love for God[a] is truly made complete in them.(K) This is how we know(L) we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.(M)
7 Dear friends,(N) I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning.(O) This old command is the message you have heard. 8 Yet I am writing you a new command;(P) its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing(Q) and the true light(R) is already shining.(S)
9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister[b](T) is still in the darkness.(U) 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister[c] lives in the light,(V) and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.(W) 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister(X) is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness.(Y) They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.(Z)
Reasons for Writing
12 I am writing to you, dear children,(AA)
because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.(AB)
13 I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.(AC)
I am writing to you, young men,
because you have overcome(AD) the evil one.(AE)
14 I write to you, dear children,(AF)
because you know the Father.
I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.(AG)
I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,(AH)
and the word of God(AI) lives in you,(AJ)
and you have overcome the evil one.(AK)
On Not Loving the World
15 Do not love the world or anything in the world.(AL) If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[d] is not in them.(AM) 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh,(AN) the lust of the eyes,(AO) and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away,(AP) but whoever does the will of God(AQ) lives forever.
Warnings Against Denying the Son
18 Dear children, this is the last hour;(AR) and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming,(AS) even now many antichrists have come.(AT) This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us,(AU) but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.(AV)
20 But you have an anointing(AW) from the Holy One,(AX) and all of you know the truth.[e](AY) 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it(AZ) and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son.(BA) 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.(BB)
24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning(BC) remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.(BD) 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.(BE)
26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.(BF) 27 As for you, the anointing(BG) you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things(BH) and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.(BI)
God’s Children and Sin
28 And now, dear children,(BJ) continue in him, so that when he appears(BK) we may be confident(BL) and unashamed before him at his coming.(BM)
29 If you know that he is righteous,(BN) you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.(BO)
