22 提幔人以利法回答说：
2 “人对 神能有甚么益处呢？
明智的人只能益己。
3 你为人公义可讨全能者喜悦吗？
你行为完全可有利于他呢？
4 他是因你敬畏他而责备你，
对你施行审判吗？
5 你的罪恶不是很大吗？
你的罪孽不是没有穷尽吗？
6 你无缘无故强取兄弟的东西作当头，
剥去衣不蔽体的人的衣服。
7 疲乏的人你没有给他水喝，
饥饿的人你没有给他饭吃。
8 有势力的人就有土地，
尊贵的人住在其中。
9 你叫寡妇空手而去，你折断孤儿的膀臂。
10 因此有网罗环绕着你，
恐惧也忽然使你惊慌。
11 光明变成黑暗，以致你看不见，
并且洪水淹没你。
12 神不是高于诸天吗？
你看看最高的星星，多么的高啊！
13 你说：‘ 神知道甚么？
他能透过幽暗施行审判吗？
14 密云把他遮盖，使他不能看见我们；
他在天上的圆圈上面走来走去。’
15 你要谨守古往的道，
就是恶人所行走的吗？
16 他们未到时候，就被抓去，
他们的根基被洪水冲去。
17 他们对 神说：‘离开我们吧！
全能者能把我们怎么样呢？’
18 他用美物充满他们的房屋，
恶人的谋算远离我。
19 义人看见了，就欢喜；
无辜的人嘲笑他们，说：
20 ‘我们的对头必被剪除，
他们剥下来的有火吞灭了。’
劝约伯悔改，远离不义
21 你与 神和好，就可以得平安，
这样，福乐就必临到你。
22 你该从他口中领受训诲，
把他的话放在心里。
23 你若归向全能者，就必得建立；
你若使不义远离你的帐棚，
24 把你的金块丢在尘土中，
把俄斐的金块丢在河流的石头间，
25 全能者就必作你的金块，
作你的银堆，
26 你就必以全能者为乐，
向 神仰起脸来。
27 你向他祈求，他就垂听你，
你也要还你的愿。
28 你决定的计划，他必为你成全，
光明必照在你的路上。
29 人谦卑的时候，你就说：‘升高吧！’
眼中谦卑的他必拯救，
30 并非无辜的人， 神尚且搭救他；
他要因你手中的洁净得救拔。”

Eliphaz accuse Job de divers crimes
22 Eliphaz de Témân prit la parole et dit :
2 Dieu aurait-il besoin ╵des services d’un homme ?
Le sage n’est utile qu’à lui-même !
3 Importe-t-il au Tout-Puissant ╵que tu sois juste ou non ?
Quel intérêt a-t-il ╵à te voir vivre ╵d’une façon intègre ?
4 Est-ce parce que tu le crains ╵qu’il te fait des reproches,
et qu’il entre en jugement avec toi[a] ?
5 Ne t’es-tu pas rendu coupable ╵de nombreux torts ?
Oui, tes péchés sont innombrables.
6 Tu prenais sans raison ╵des gages de tes frères,
et, de leurs vêtements, ╵tu dépouillais les gens ╵jusqu’à les laisser nus[b].
7 Tu ne donnais pas d’eau ╵à un homme épuisé
et, à qui avait faim, ╵tu refusais le pain.
8 Tu livrais le pays ╵à l’homme fort
et tu y installais ╵qui tu voulais favoriser[c].
9 Tu renvoyais les veuves ╵sans rien leur accorder
et tu brisais la force ╵des orphelins.
10 Voilà pourquoi des pièges ╵sont tendus tout autour de toi,
voilà pourquoi soudain ╵des frayeurs t’épouvantent.
11 Ne vois-tu donc pas ces ténèbres,
toute cette eau qui te submerge ?
12 Dieu n’habite-t-il pas ╵tout là-haut dans le ciel ?
Vois la voûte étoilée, ╵comme elle est élevée !
13 Mais toi, tu dis : ╵« Dieu, que peut-il savoir ?
Peut-il exercer la justice ╵à travers les nuées ?
14 Les nuages le cachent ╵et il ne peut pas voir,
tandis qu’il se promène ╵sur le pourtour du ciel. »
15 Tiens-tu donc à rester ╵sur cet ancien sentier,
suivi depuis toujours ╵par ceux qui font le mal ?
16 Qui, prématurément, ╵sont retranchés
et dont les fondements ╵sont comme un fleuve qui s’écoule ?
17 Eux qui disaient à Dieu : ╵« Eloigne-toi de nous ! »
et : « Que pourrait nous faire ╵le Tout-Puissant[d] ? »
18 Et, pourtant, il comblait ╵leurs maisons de bien-être.
Mais loin de moi ╵l’idée de suivre leurs conseils[e].
19 Car les justes verront leur ruine ╵et ils se réjouiront,
ceux qui sont innocents ╵les railleront, disant :
20 « Voilà nos adversaires : ╵ils sont anéantis
et ce qui restait d’eux ╵le feu l’a dévoré. »
21 Accorde-toi donc avec lui, ╵fais la paix avec lui.
Ainsi tu connaîtras ╵de nouveau le bonheur.
22 Accepte l’instruction ╵émanant de sa bouche,
prends à cœur ses paroles.
23 Si tu reviens ╵au Tout-Puissant ╵tu seras rétabli,
tu feras disparaître ╵l’iniquité de ta demeure.
24 Si tu jettes l’or pur ╵dans la poussière
et l’or d’Ophir[f] ╵aux cailloux du torrent,
25 alors le Tout-Puissant ╵sera pour toi de l’or,
et des monceaux d’argent,
26 car alors tu feras ╵tes délices du Tout-Puissant,
tu lèveras ╵le visage vers Dieu.
27 Oui, tu l’imploreras, ╵et il t’exaucera,
et tu t’acquitteras ╵des vœux que tu as faits[g].
28 Aux décisions que tu prendras ╵répondra le succès,
et, sur tous tes chemins, ╵brillera la lumière.
29 Et si quelqu’un est abattu, ╵tu le relèveras,
car Dieu vient au secours ╵de qui baisse les yeux.
30 Il délivrera même ╵celui qui est coupable.
C’est grâce à tes mains pures ╵que cet homme sera sauvé.

Eliphaz Accuses Job of Wickedness
22 Then (A)Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:
2 “Can(B) a man be profitable to God,
Though he who is wise may be profitable to himself?
3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous?
Or is it gain to Him that you make your ways blameless?
4 “Is it because of your fear of Him that He corrects you,
And enters into judgment with you?
5 Is not your wickedness great,
And your iniquity without end?
6 For you have (C)taken pledges from your brother for no reason,
And stripped the naked of their clothing.
7 You have not given the weary water to drink,
And you (D)have withheld bread from the hungry.
8 But the [a]mighty man possessed the land,
And the honorable man dwelt in it.
9 You have sent widows away empty,
And the [b]strength of the fatherless was crushed.
10 Therefore snares are all around you,
And sudden fear troubles you,
11 Or darkness so that you cannot see;
And an abundance of (E)water covers you.
12 “Is not God in the height of heaven?
And see the highest stars, how lofty they are!
13 And you say, (F)‘What does God know?
Can He judge through the deep darkness?
14 (G)Thick clouds cover Him, so that He cannot see,
And He walks above the circle of heaven.’
15 Will you keep to the old way
Which wicked men have trod,
16 Who (H)were cut down before their time,
Whose foundations were swept away by a flood?
17 (I)They said to God, ‘Depart from us!
What can the Almighty do to [c]them?’
18 Yet He filled their houses with good things;
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 “The(J) righteous see it and are glad,
And the innocent laugh at them:
20 ‘Surely our [d]adversaries are cut down,
And the fire consumes their remnant.’
21 “Now acquaint yourself with Him, and (K)be at peace;
Thereby good will come to you.
22 Receive, please, (L)instruction from His mouth,
And (M)lay up His words in your heart.
23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up;
You will remove iniquity far from your tents.
24 Then you will (N)lay your gold in the dust,
And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
25 Yes, the Almighty will be your [e]gold
And your precious silver;
26 For then you will have your (O)delight in the Almighty,
And lift up your face to God.
27 (P)You will make your prayer to Him,
He will hear you,
And you will pay your vows.
28 You will also declare a thing,
And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways.
29 When they cast you down, and you say, ‘Exaltation will come!’
Then (Q)He will save the humble person.
30 He will even deliver one who is not innocent;
Yes, he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.”

2 “Can a man be of benefit to God?(B)
Can even a wise person benefit him?(C)
3 What pleasure(D) would it give the Almighty if you were righteous?(E)
What would he gain if your ways were blameless?(F)
4 “Is it for your piety that he rebukes you
and brings charges against you?(G)
5 Is not your wickedness great?
Are not your sins(H) endless?(I)
6 You demanded security(J) from your relatives for no reason;(K)
you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.(L)
7 You gave no water(M) to the weary
and you withheld food from the hungry,(N)
8 though you were a powerful man, owning land(O)—
an honored man,(P) living on it.(Q)
9 And you sent widows(R) away empty-handed(S)
and broke the strength of the fatherless.(T)
10 That is why snares(U) are all around you,(V)
why sudden peril terrifies you,(W)
11 why it is so dark(X) you cannot see,
and why a flood of water covers you.(Y)
12 “Is not God in the heights of heaven?(Z)
And see how lofty are the highest stars!
13 Yet you say, ‘What does God know?(AA)
Does he judge through such darkness?(AB)
14 Thick clouds(AC) veil him, so he does not see us(AD)

15 Will you keep to the old path

17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone!
What can the Almighty do to us?’(AK)
18 Yet it was he who filled their houses with good things,(AL)
so I stand aloof from the plans of the wicked.(AM)
19 The righteous see their ruin and rejoice;(AN)
the innocent mock(AO) them, saying,
20 ‘Surely our foes are destroyed,(AP)
and fire(AQ) devours their wealth.’
21 “Submit to God and be at peace(AR) with him;(AS)
in this way prosperity will come to you.(AT)
22 Accept instruction from his mouth(AU)
and lay up his words(AV) in your heart.(AW)
23 If you return(AX) to the Almighty, you will be restored:(AY)
If you remove wickedness far from your tent(AZ)
24 and assign your nuggets(BA) to the dust,
your gold(BB) of Ophir(BC) to the rocks in the ravines,(BD)
25 then the Almighty will be your gold,(BE)
the choicest silver for you.(BF)
26 Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty(BG)
and will lift up your face(BH) to God.(BI)
27 You will pray to him,(BJ) and he will hear you,(BK)
and you will fulfill your vows.(BL)
28 What you decide on will be done,(BM)
and light(BN) will shine on your ways.(BO)
29 When people are brought low(BP) and you say, ‘Lift them up!’
then he will save the downcast.(BQ)
30 He will deliver even one who is not innocent,(BR)
who will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”(BS)
