亚干犯罪
7 以色列人在当毁灭之物的事上犯了罪。因为犹大支派中谢拉的曾孙、撒底的孙子、迦米的儿子亚干拿了一些本该毁灭的东西，耶和华便向以色列人发怒。
2 当时，约书亚从耶利哥派人去侦察伯特利东边靠近伯·亚文的艾城。 3 他们侦察回来后对约书亚说：“那里的居民很少，我们不必劳师动众派所有的人上去，只要派两三千人上去便可以攻取艾城。” 4 于是，大约有三千以色列人去攻打艾城，不料却被艾城人击溃。 5 艾城的人杀了他们三十六人，从城门前追杀他们，一直到示巴琳，在下坡处杀败他们。以色列人吓得心惊胆战。
6 约书亚和以色列的长老便撕裂衣服，把灰撒在头上，俯伏在耶和华的约柜面前，直到晚上。 7 约书亚说：“唉！主耶和华啊，你让我们过了约旦河，为什么把我们交在亚摩利人手上，让他们毁灭我们呢？倒不如让我们住在约旦河对岸！ 8 主啊，现在以色列人被仇敌打败，我还有什么话可说呢？ 9 迦南人和这一带的人听到这消息以后，必从四面八方来围攻我们，将我们从地上斩尽杀绝。那时候，你的威名又何在呢？”
10 耶和华对约书亚说：“起来吧！你为何俯伏在地？ 11 以色列人犯了罪，违背了我吩咐他们应守的约，偷拿了本该毁灭的东西放在自己的行囊里，还撒谎。 12 所以，以色列人受咒诅，无法抵挡敌人，掉头败逃。你必须将那些本该毁灭的东西从你们中间除掉，不然我就不再与你们同在。 13 起来吧！去吩咐民众洁净自己，让他们为明天洁净自己，因为以色列的上帝耶和华这样说，‘以色列啊！你们中间有本该毁灭的东西，你们不除掉这些东西就无法抵挡敌人。 14 明天早上，你们要按支派一个一个前来，耶和华指出哪个支派，哪支派的各宗族便要前来。耶和华指出哪个宗族，哪宗族的各家族便要前来。耶和华指出哪个家族，哪家族的各成员便要前来。 15 哪个人被指出拿了本该毁灭的东西，哪个人及其所有的东西就要被火焚烧。因为他违背了耶和华的约，在以色列人中做了可耻的事。’”
16 第二天清早，约书亚按照支派召来以色列人，结果抽中犹大支派； 17 他让犹大支派各宗族前来，结果抽中谢拉宗族；他让谢拉宗族前来，结果抽中撒底家族； 18 他让撒底家族的人一个一个前来，结果抽中迦米的儿子亚干。 19 约书亚对亚干说：“孩子啊，我劝你把荣耀归给以色列的上帝耶和华，向祂认罪，把你所做的事告诉我，不要隐瞒。” 20 亚干答道：“我的确得罪了以色列的上帝耶和华。事情是这样的， 21 在夺得的财物中，我看上了一件漂亮的示拿外衣、两千二百克银子和五百五十克金子，我一时贪心便拿去了，藏在我帐篷的地底下，银子就放在衣服下面。”
22 约书亚派人跑到他的帐篷里，果然在那里找到了那件衣服和衣服下面的银子。 23 他们将这些东西带到约书亚和民众那里，摆在耶和华面前。 24 约书亚和全体以色列人把谢拉家族的亚干、那些银子、衣服和金子及其儿女、牛、驴、羊、帐篷和一切所有都带到亚割谷。 25 约书亚对亚干说：“你为什么给我们惹祸呢？今天耶和华要降祸给你。”于是，以色列人便拿石头打死了他和他一切的人畜，将其烧毁。 26 他们在亚干身上堆起一大堆石头，那些石头今天还在。耶和华这才息怒，因此那地方至今还叫亚割[a]谷。

7 Nhưng dân Ít-ra-en không vâng lời Chúa. Có một người tên A-can thuộc chi tộc Giu-đa. A-can là con của Cạt-mi, cháu Xáp-đi, con của Xê-ra. A-can giữ lại một vài thứ, đã được biệt riêng cho Chúa, nên Ngài nổi giận cùng dân Ít-ra-en.
2 Từ Giê-ri-cô, Giô-suê sai mấy người đến A-hi gần Bết A-ven, nằm về phía đông Bê-tên và dặn, “Các anh hãy đi do thám A-hi [a] và toàn vùng.” Họ liền đi do thám A-hi.
3 Sau đó họ trở về tường trình cùng Giô-suê, “Dân A-hi ít lắm, không cần phải đưa toàn quân Ít-ra-en đánh làm gì. Chỉ cần hai ba ngàn quân là đủ, không cần toàn quân.”
4 Vì thế khoảng ba ngàn quân ra đi đánh A-hi nhưng họ bị dân A-hi đánh thảm bại. 5 Người A-hi giết độ ba mươi sáu người Ít-ra-en và rượt đuổi số quân còn lại chạy từ cổng thành suốt đến khu vực hầm đá [b] và chém giết họ khi họ chạy xuống dốc.
Thấy thảm trạng nầy toàn dân Ít-ra-en đâm ra mất tinh thần. 6 Giô-suê liền xé quần áo bày tỏ nỗi đau buồn. Ông quì sấp mặt xuống đất trước Rương của Chúa và ở đó suốt đêm. Các vị chỉ huy dân Ít-ra-en cũng làm như thế. Họ rắc bụi đất trên đầu để tỏ dấu hiệu bi thảm.
7 Giô-suê thưa, “Lạy Chúa, Ngài đã mang dân nầy qua sông Giô-đanh. Tại sao Ngài đưa chúng con đến đây để rồi dân A-mô-rít tiêu diệt chúng con? Chẳng thà chúng con cứ ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh còn hơn. 8 Lạy Chúa, con không biết nói gì nữa. Dân Ít-ra-en đã bị kẻ thù đánh bại. 9 Người Ca-na-an và các dân khác trong xứ sẽ nghe chuyện nầy, họ sẽ vây và tiêu diệt chúng con! Rồi Chúa sẽ làm sao để giữ uy danh Ngài?”
10 Chúa bảo Giô-suê, “Hãy đứng dậy! Tại sao con sấp mặt xuống đất? 11 Dân Ít-ra-en đã phạm tội; họ đã vi phạm giao ước mà ta đã dặn phải tôn trọng. Họ lấy một số đồ vật ta truyền phải tiêu diệt. Họ đã ăn cắp, nói dối và giữ các thứ đó riêng cho mình. 12 Vì lý do đó mà dân Ít-ra-en không thể đương đầu với kẻ thù. Họ phải quay lưng bỏ chạy vì ta truyền cho họ phải bị diệt. Ta không thể giúp các con được cho đến khi các con tiêu diệt những thứ ta dặn.
13 Bây giờ hãy ra tay! Chuẩn bị dân chúng cho thánh sạch. Bảo họ, ‘Ngày mai các ngươi hãy biệt mình riêng ra cho Chúa. Chúa là Thượng Đế của Ít-ra-en bảo rằng, một vài người trong các ngươi đã giữ riêng cho mình một số đồ vật Ngài dặn phải tiêu diệt. Các ngươi không thể thắng nổi kẻ thù cho đến khi các ngươi ném bỏ các thứ đó.
14 Sáng mai các ngươi phải ra trình diện theo chi tộc mình. Chúa sẽ chỉ ra một chi tộc để đứng trước mặt Ngài. Rồi Ngài sẽ chọn một họ hàng trong chi tộc đó đứng riêng ra. Sau đó Ngài lại sẽ chỉ ra một gia đình trong nhóm gia tộc ấy đứng trước mặt Ngài theo từng người một. 15 Người nào giữ lại đồ đã được dặn phải tiêu hủy sẽ bị hỏa thiêu. Mọi thứ thuộc về người cũng bị hoả thiêu luôn. Người đó đã vi phạm giao ước với Chúa và đã mang sỉ nhục đến cho dân Ít-ra-en!’”
16 Sáng sớm hôm sau Giô-suê đưa toàn dân Ít-ra-en ra trình diện theo từng chi tộc. Chúa chỉ ra chi tộc Giu-đa. 17 Các họ hàng Giu-đa ra trình diện, Chúa chỉ ra nhóm Xê-ra. Khi các gia đình thuộc họ Xê-ra trình diện thì gia đình Xáp-đi bị chỉ ra. 18 Giô-suê bảo từng người trong gia đình đó trình diện. Chúa chỉ ra A-can, con của Cạt-mi. Cạt-mi là con của Xáp-đi, Xáp-đi là con của Xê-ra.
19 Giô-suê liền hỏi A-can, “Con ơi, hãy khai thật đi. Hãy thú thật cùng Chúa là Thượng Đế của Ít-ra-en. Nói cho ta biết con đã làm gì, không được giấu diếm.”
20 A-can thưa, “Dạ đúng. Con đã phạm tội cùng Chúa, Thượng Đế của Ít-ra-en. Đây là điều con làm: 21 Trong số những của cướp được con thấy có một áo khoác Ba-by-lôn rất đẹp, khoảng năm cân bạc, một cân phần tư vàng. Con thèm muốn giữ những thứ nầy cho riêng mình cho nên con lấy cất. Những món đó hiện đang chôn dưới đất ở giữa lều con, bạc thì nằm bên dưới.”
22 Giô-suê cho người chạy đến lều, thì thấy các món đồ giấu ở đó, cùng với bạc. 23 Họ lấy các món ấy ra khỏi lều, mang đến cho Giô-suê và cả dân Ít-ra-en rồi bày ra dưới đất, trước mặt Chúa.
24 Sau đó Giô-suê và toàn dân Ít-ra-en dẫn A-can, con Xê-ra đến Thung lũng Quấy Rối. Họ cũng đem đến đó bạc, áo khoác, vàng, con trai, con gái ông, súc vật, lừa, chiên, lều và tất cả những thứ thuộc về ông. 25 Giô-suê bảo, “Ta không hiểu tại sao con gieo rắc rối cho chúng ta, giờ đây Chúa sẽ gieo rắc rối cho con.” Rồi dân chúng ném đá giết A-can và cả gia đình xong, hỏa thiêu họ. 26 Dân chúng chất một đống đá lên xác A-can. Đống đá ấy ngày nay vẫn còn. Vì thế người ta gọi chỗ đó là Thung Lũng A-cô [c]. Rồi Chúa nguôi giận.

7 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.
2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
3 And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
6 And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the Lord until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
8 O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
10 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the Lord taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the Lord shall take shall come by households; and the household which the Lord shall take shall come man by man.
15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:
17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
18 And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the Lord.
24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.
25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the Lord shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the Lord turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
