Leviternas städer
(1 Krön 6:54-80)
21 Sedan kom ledarna för Levis stam till prästen Elasar och Josua samt de övriga ledarna i Israel. 2 De talade till dem i Shilo i Kanaan: ”Herren befallde genom Mose att vi leviter skulle få städer att bo i och betesmark för vår boskap.”
3 Då gav israeliterna i enlighet med Herrens befallning leviterna några av de städer man nyligen intagit och de betesmarker som hörde till dem.
4 Lotten föll först på Kehats släkter. Bland leviterna fick ättlingarna till prästen Aron tretton städer från Judas, Simons och Benjamins stam. 5 De övriga familjerna bland Kehats släkter fick tio städer från de områden som tillhörde Efraims, Dans och halva Manasses stammar. 6 Gershons släkter fick genom lottkastning tretton städer från Isaskars, Ashers och Naftalis stammar och Manasses halva stam i Bashan. 7 Meraris släkter fick tolv städer från Ruben, Gad och Sebulon. 8 Dessa städer med betesmarker gav israeliterna genom lottkastning till leviterna, så som Herren hade befallt genom Mose.
9 Från Judas och Simons stammar gav man nio städer som uppräknas nedan. 10 Dessa städer gavs åt Arons ättlingar som tillhörde Kehats släkter bland leviterna, för lotten föll på dem först.
11 De fick Kirjat-Arba, dvs. Hebron (Arba var anakiternas stamfar), i Juda bergsbygd med kringliggande betesmarker. 12 Men fälten kring staden och de tillhörande byarna gavs åt Kalev, Jefunnes son. 13 De gav prästen Arons ättlingar Hebron, en fristad för dråpare, med dess betesmarker, Livna med dess betesmarker, 14 Jattir med dess betesmarker, Eshtemoa med dess betesmarker, 15 Holon med dess betesmarker, Devir med dess betesmarker, 16 Ajin, Jutta och Bet Shemesh med deras respektive betesmarker, allt som allt nio städer från dessa två stammar. 17 Av Benjamins stam fick de Givon och Geva med respektive betesmarker, 18 likaså Anatot och Almon med respektive betesmarker, alltså fyra städer.
19 Sammanlagt gavs alltså tretton städer åt prästerna, Arons ättlingar.
20 De övriga Kehats släkter av leviterna fick följande städer från Efraims stam genom lottning:
21 De fick Shekem, som var en av fristäderna för dråpare, med betesmarker uppe i Efraims bergsbygd, Geser med betesmarker, 22 Kivsajim och Bet Horon med deras respektive betesmarker, sammanlagt fyra städer. 23 Av Dans stam fick de Elteke och Gibbeton med deras respektive betesmarker, 24 samt Ajalon och Gat-Rimmon med deras respektive betesmarker, fyra städer. 25 Av den ena halvan av Manasses stam fick leviterna städerna Tanak och Jivleam med respektive betesmarker, två städer.
26 Sammanlagt fick resten av Kehats släkter tio städer med tillhörande betesmarker.
27 Gershons släkter, en annan del av Levis stam, fick två städer med betesmarker av halva Manasses stam:
Golan i Bashan, en av fristäderna för dråpare, och Beestera, två städer,
28 från Isaskars stam Kishjon och Daverat med deras respektive betesmarker, 29 samt Jarmut och En-Gannim med deras respektive betesmarker, fyra städer,
30 från Ashers stam Mishal och Avdon med deras respektive betesmarker, 31 samt Helkat och Rechov med deras respektive betesmarker, fyra städer,
32 och från Naftalis stam Kedesh i Galileen, som var en av fristäderna för dråpare, med dess betesmarker, likaså Hammot Dor och Karta med deras respektive betesmarker, tre städer.
33 Tretton städer med tillhörande betesmarker tilldelades Gershons släkter.
34 Resten av Levis stam, Meraris släkter, fick av Sebulons stam
Jokneam och Karta med deras respektive betesmarker, 35 samt Dimna och Nahalal med deras respektive betesmarker, fyra städer.
36 Från Rubens stam fick de Beser och Jahas med deras respektive betesmarker, 37 likaså Kedemot och Mefaat med deras respektive betesmarker.
38 Från Gads stam fick de Ramot, en av fristäderna för dråpare, och Machanajim, båda med sina betesmarker, 39 samt Heshbon och Jaser med deras respektive betesmarker, sammanlagt fyra städer.
40 Meraris släkter bland leviterna fick alltså sammanlagt tolv städer.
41 Allt som allt fick leviterna fyrtioåtta städer med tillhörande betesmarker. 42 Runt omkring var och en av dessa städer fanns betesmarker som tillhörde dem.
Fred i hela landet
43 På så sätt gav Herren Israel hela det land han med ed hade lovat deras förfäder och de drog in i det och bosatte sig där. 44 Herren gav dem fred på alla sidor, så som han med ed hade lovat deras förfäder och ingen av deras fiender kunde stå emot dem. Herren gav dem alla i deras våld. 45 Ingenting av allt det goda Herren hade lovat israeliterna uteblev, utan allting gick i uppfyllelse.

Towns for the Levites(A)
21 Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel(B) 2 at Shiloh(C) in Canaan and said to them, “The Lord commanded through Moses that you give us towns(D) to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.”(E) 3 So, as the Lord had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:
4 The first lot came out for the Kohathites,(F) according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.(G) 5 The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.(H)
6 The descendants of Gershon(I) were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar,(J) Asher,(K) Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.
7 The descendants of Merari,(L) according to their clans, received twelve(M) towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.(N)
8 So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the Lord had commanded through Moses.
9 From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name 10 (these towns were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clans of the Levites, because the first lot fell to them):
11 They gave them Kiriath Arba(O) (that is, Hebron(P)), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.) 12 But the fields and villages around the city they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.(Q)
13 So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron (a city of refuge(R) for one accused of murder), Libnah,(S) 14 Jattir,(T) Eshtemoa,(U) 15 Holon,(V) Debir,(W) 16 Ain,(X) Juttah(Y) and Beth Shemesh,(Z) together with their pasturelands—nine towns from these two tribes.
17 And from the tribe of Benjamin they gave them Gibeon,(AA) Geba,(AB) 18 Anathoth(AC) and Almon, together with their pasturelands—four towns.
19 The total number of towns(AD) for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.(AE)
20 The rest of the Kohathite clans of the Levites were allotted towns from the tribe of Ephraim:
21 In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem(AF) (a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer,(AG) 22 Kibzaim and Beth Horon,(AH) together with their pasturelands—four towns.(AI)
23 Also from the tribe of Dan they received Eltekeh, Gibbethon,(AJ) 24 Aijalon(AK) and Gath Rimmon,(AL) together with their pasturelands—four towns.
25 From half the tribe of Manasseh they received Taanach(AM) and Gath Rimmon, together with their pasturelands—two towns.
26 All these ten towns and their pasturelands were given to the rest of the Kohathite clans.(AN)
27 The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given:
from the half-tribe of Manasseh,
Golan in Bashan(AO) (a city of refuge for one accused of murder(AP)) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands—two towns;
28 from the tribe of Issachar,(AQ)
Kishion,(AR) Daberath,(AS) 29 Jarmuth(AT) and En Gannim,(AU) together with their pasturelands—four towns;
30 from the tribe of Asher,(AV)
32 from the tribe of Naphtali,
Kedesh(AZ) in Galilee (a city of refuge for one accused of murder(BA)), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands—three towns.
33 The total number of towns of the Gershonite(BB) clans came to thirteen, together with their pasturelands.
34 The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given:
from the tribe of Zebulun,(BC)
Jokneam,(BD) Kartah, 35 Dimnah and Nahalal,(BE) together with their pasturelands—four towns;
36 from the tribe of Reuben,
38 from the tribe of Gad,
Ramoth(BI) in Gilead(BJ) (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,(BK) 39 Heshbon and Jazer,(BL) together with their pasturelands—four towns in all.
40 The total number of towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, came to twelve.(BM)
41 The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.(BN) 42 Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.
43 So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors,(BO) and they took possession(BP) of it and settled there.(BQ) 44 The Lord gave them rest(BR) on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies(BS) withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies(BT) into their hands.(BU) 45 Not one of all the Lord’s good promises(BV) to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.

21 Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;
2 And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.
3 And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the Lord, these cities and their suburbs.
4 And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.
5 And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.
6 And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.
7 The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.
8 And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.
9 And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name.
10 Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.
11 And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

27 And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Beeshterah with her suburbs; two cities.
28 And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishon with her suburbs, Dabareh with her suburbs,
29 Jarmuth with her suburbs, Engannim with her suburbs; four cities.
30 And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with her suburbs, Abdon with her suburbs,
31 Helkath with her suburbs, and Rehob with her suburbs; four cities.
32 And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammothdor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities.
33 All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs.
34 And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,
35 Dimnah with her suburbs, Nahalal with her suburbs; four cities.
36 And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with her suburbs, and Jahazah with her suburbs,
37 Kedemoth with her suburbs, and Mephaath with her suburbs; four cities.
38 And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with her suburbs,
39 Heshbon with her suburbs, Jazer with her suburbs; four cities in all.
40 So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.
41 All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.
42 These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities.
43 And the Lord gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.
44 And the Lord gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.
45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.
