4 親 愛 的 弟 兄 阿 ， 一 切 的 靈 ， 你 們 不 可 都 信 ， 總 要 試 驗 那 些 靈 是 出 於 神 的 不 是 ， 因 為 世 上 有 許 多 假 先 知 已 經 出 來 了 。
2 凡 靈 認 耶 穌 基 督 是 成 了 肉 身 來 ， 就 是 出 於 神 的 的 ； 從 此 你 們 可 以 認 出 神 的 靈 來 。
3 凡 靈 不 認 耶 穌 ， 就 不 是 出 於 神 ； 這 是 那 敵 基 督 者 的 靈 。 你 們 從 前 聽 見 他 要 來 ， 現 在 已 經 在 世 上 了 。
4 小 子 們 哪 ， 你 們 是 屬 神 的 ， 並 且 勝 了 他 們 ； 因 為 那 在 你 們 裡 面 的 ， 比 那 在 世 界 上 的 更 大 。
5 他 們 是 屬 世 界 的 ， 所 以 論 世 界 的 事 ， 世 人 也 聽 從 他 們 。
6 我 們 是 屬 神 的 ， 認 識 神 的 就 聽 從 我 們 ； 不 屬 神 的 就 不 聽 從 我 們 。 從 此 我 們 可 以 認 出 真 理 的 靈 和 謬 妄 的 靈 來 。
7 親 愛 的 弟 兄 阿 ， 我 們 應 當 彼 此 相 愛 ， 因 為 愛 是 從 神 來 的 。 凡 有 愛 心 的 ， 都 是 由 神 而 生 ， 並 且 認 識 神 。
8 沒 有 愛 心 的 ， 就 不 認 識 神 ， 因 為 神 就 是 愛 。
9 神 差 他 獨 生 子 到 世 間 來 ， 使 我 們 藉 著 他 得 生 ， 神 愛 我 們 的 心 在 此 就 顯 明 了 。
10 不 是 我 們 愛 神 ， 乃 是 神 愛 我 們 ， 差 他 的 兒 子 為 我 們 的 罪 作 了 挽 回 祭 ， 這 就 是 愛 了 。
11 親 愛 的 弟 兄 阿 ， 神 既 是 這 樣 愛 我 們 ， 我 們 也 當 彼 此 相 愛 。
12 從 來 沒 有 人 見 過 神 ， 我 們 若 彼 此 相 愛 ， 神 就 住 在 我 們 裡 面 ， 愛 他 的 心 在 我 們 裡 面 得 以 完 全 了 。
13 神 將 他 的 靈 賜 給 我 們 ， 從 此 就 知 道 我 們 是 住 在 他 裡 面 ， 他 也 住 在 我 們 裡 面 。
14 父 差 子 作 世 人 的 救 主 ； 這 是 我 們 所 看 見 且 作 見 證 的 。
15 凡 認 耶 穌 為 神 兒 子 的 ， 神 就 住 在 他 裡 面 ， 他 也 住 在 神 裡 面 。
16 神 愛 我 們 的 心 ， 我 們 也 知 道 也 信 。 神 就 是 愛 ； 住 在 愛 裡 面 的 ， 就 是 住 在 神 裡 面 ， 神 也 住 在 他 裡 面 。
17 這 樣 ， 愛 在 我 們 裡 面 得 以 完 全 ， 我 們 就 可 以 在 審 判 的 日 子 坦 然 無 懼 。 因 為 他 如 何 ， 我 們 在 這 世 上 也 如 何 。
18 愛 裡 沒 有 懼 怕 ； 愛 既 完 全 ， 就 把 懼 怕 除 去 。 因 為 懼 怕 裡 含 著 刑 罰 ， 懼 怕 的 人 在 愛 裡 未 得 完 全 。
19 我 們 愛 ， 因 為 神 先 愛 我 們 。
20 人 若 說 我 愛 神 ， 卻 恨 他 的 弟 兄 ， 就 是 說 謊 話 的 ； 不 愛 他 所 看 見 的 弟 兄 ， 就 不 能 愛 沒 有 看 見 的 神 （ 有 古 卷 作 ： 怎 能 愛 沒 有 看 見 的 神 呢 ） 。
21 愛 神 的 ， 也 當 愛 弟 兄 ， 這 是 我 們 從 神 所 受 的 命 令 。
5 凡 信 耶 穌 是 基 督 的 ， 都 是 從 神 而 生 ， 凡 愛 生 他 之 神 的 ， 也 必 愛 從 神 生 的 。
2 我 們 若 愛 神 ， 又 遵 守 他 的 誡 命 ， 從 此 就 知 道 我 們 愛 神 的 兒 女 。
3 我 們 遵 守 神 的 誡 命 ， 這 就 是 愛 他 了 ， 並 且 他 的 誡 命 不 是 難 守 的 。
4 因 為 凡 從 神 生 的 ， 就 勝 過 世 界 ； 使 我 們 勝 了 世 界 的 ， 就 是 我 們 的 信 心 。
5 勝 過 世 界 的 是 誰 呢 ？ 不 是 那 信 耶 穌 是 神 兒 子 的 麼 ？
6 這 藉 著 水 和 血 而 來 的 ， 就 是 耶 穌 基 督 ； 不 是 單 用 水 ， 乃 是 用 水 又 用 血 ，
7 並 且 有 聖 靈 作 見 證 ， 因 為 聖 靈 就 是 真 理 。
8 作 見 證 的 原 來 有 三 ： 就 是 聖 靈 、 水 ， 與 血 ， 這 三 樣 也 都 歸 於 一 。
9 我 們 既 領 受 人 的 見 證 ， 神 的 見 證 更 該 領 受 了 （ 該 領 受 ： 原 文 作 大 ） ， 因 神 的 見 證 是 為 他 兒 子 作 的 。
10 信 神 兒 子 的 ， 就 有 這 見 證 在 他 心 裡 ； 不 信 神 的 ， 就 是 將 神 當 作 說 謊 的 ， 因 不 信 神 為 他 兒 子 作 的 見 證 。
11 這 見 證 就 是 神 賜 給 我 們 永 生 ； 這 永 生 也 是 在 他 兒 子 裡 面 。
12 人 有 了 神 的 兒 子 就 有 生 命 ， 沒 有 神 的 兒 子 就 沒 有 生 命 。

灵的分辨
4 亲爱的弟兄姊妹，不要什么灵都信，总要试验那些灵是否出于上帝，因为世上已经出现了许多假先知！ 2 任何灵若承认耶稣基督曾降世为人，就是从上帝来的，你们可以凭这一点认出上帝的灵。 3 任何灵若不承认耶稣，就不是从上帝来的，而是敌基督者的灵。以前你们听说敌基督者要来，现在他已经在世上了。
4 孩子们，你们属于上帝，你们已经胜过了那些假先知，因为在你们里面的圣灵比在世上运行的邪灵更有能力。 5 他们属于世界，所以他们谈论的都是世俗的事，世人也听从他们。 6 我们属于上帝，认识上帝的人听从我们，不属于上帝的人不听从我们。这样，我们就可以分辨真理的灵和错谬的灵。
上帝是爱
7 亲爱的弟兄姊妹，我们应当彼此相爱，因为爱是从上帝来的。凡有爱心的人都是从上帝生的，并且认识上帝。 8 没有爱心的人不认识上帝，因为上帝就是爱。 9 上帝差遣祂独一的儿子到世上来，是为了叫我们靠着祂得到生命。这就显明了上帝对我们的爱。 10 不是我们爱上帝，而是上帝爱我们，并且差遣祂儿子为我们的罪作了赎罪祭，这就是爱。
11 亲爱的弟兄姊妹，上帝既然这样爱我们，我们也应该彼此相爱。 12 从来没有人见过上帝，如果我们彼此相爱，上帝就住在我们里面，祂的爱就在我们里面得到成全。
13 上帝将祂的灵赐给了我们，所以我们知道自己住在祂里面，祂也住在我们里面。 14 我们看见过，现在做见证：父差遣了祂的儿子成为世人的救主。 15 无论是谁，他若承认耶稣是上帝的儿子，上帝必住在他里面，他也住在上帝里面。 16 我们已经认识并且相信了上帝对我们的爱。
上帝就是爱，住在爱中的，就是住在上帝里面，上帝也住在他里面。 17 这样，爱在我们里面得到成全，使我们在审判的日子可以坦然无惧，因为我们在这世上以基督为榜样。 18 爱里没有恐惧，纯全的爱能驱除恐惧，因为恐惧意味着怕受惩罚。人若心里恐惧，就表示他尚未明白那纯全的爱。
19 我们爱，因为上帝先爱了我们。 20 若有人说“我爱上帝”，却恨自己的弟兄姊妹，这人就是说谎话，因为人若不爱看得见的弟兄姊妹，又怎能爱看不见的上帝呢？ 21 爱上帝的人也应该爱弟兄姊妹，这是上帝给我们的命令。
胜过世界的人
5 每一个信耶稣是基督的人，都是从上帝生的。凡爱生他之上帝的，也爱上帝所生的。 2 当我们爱上帝，遵行祂的命令时，便知道自己也爱祂的儿女。 3 因为我们遵行上帝的命令就是爱上帝，祂的命令并不难遵守。 4 因为凡是从上帝生的人都能胜过世界，使我们得胜的是我们的信心。 5 谁能胜过世界呢？不就是那些信耶稣是上帝的儿子的人吗？
上帝的见证
6 耶稣基督是借着水和血来的。祂不单是借着水来的，也是借着水和血来的，并且有圣灵为祂做见证，圣灵就是真理。 7 这样，做见证的共有三样： 8 圣灵、水和血。这三者是一致的。 9 我们既然接受人的见证，就更该接受上帝的见证，因为上帝为祂的儿子做了见证。 10 信上帝儿子的人心里有这见证，不信上帝的人等于把上帝当作撒谎的，因为他不信上帝为祂儿子做的见证。 11 这见证就是：上帝已经把永恒的生命赐给我们，这生命在祂儿子里面。 12 人有上帝的儿子，就有这生命；没有上帝的儿子，就没有这生命。

On Denying the Incarnation
4 Dear friends,(A) do not believe every spirit,(B) but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.(C) 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh(D) is from God,(E) 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist,(F) which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.(G)
4 You, dear children,(H) are from God and have overcome them,(I) because the one who is in you(J) is greater than the one who is in the world.(K) 5 They are from the world(L) and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.(M) This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth(N) and the spirit of falsehood.(O)
God’s Love and Ours
7 Dear friends, let us love one another,(P) for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God(Q) and knows God.(R) 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.(S) 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son(T) into the world that we might live through him.(U) 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us(V) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.(W) 11 Dear friends,(X) since God so loved us,(Y) we also ought to love one another.(Z) 12 No one has ever seen God;(AA) but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.(AB)
13 This is how we know(AC) that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.(AD) 14 And we have seen and testify(AE) that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.(AF) 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,(AG) God lives in them and they in God.(AH) 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love.(AI) Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.(AJ) 17 This is how love is made complete(AK) among us so that we will have confidence(AL) on the day of judgment:(AM) In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,(AN) because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us.(AO) 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister(AP) is a liar.(AQ) For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen,(AR) cannot love God, whom they have not seen.(AS) 21 And he has given us this command:(AT) Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.(AU)
Faith in the Incarnate Son of God
5 Everyone who believes(AV) that Jesus is the Christ(AW) is born of God,(AX) and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.(AY) 2 This is how we know(AZ) that we love the children of God:(BA) by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.(BB) And his commands are not burdensome,(BC) 4 for everyone born of God(BD) overcomes(BE) the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.(BF)
6 This is the one who came by water and blood(BG)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.(BH) 7 For there are three(BI) that testify: 8 the[b] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept human testimony,(BJ) but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God,(BK) which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony.(BL) Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar,(BM) because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,(BN) and this life is in his Son.(BO) 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.(BP)
