John 8:6-8

New International Version

⁶They were using this question as a trap,^(A) in order to have a basis for accusing him.^(B)

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. ⁷When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone^(C) at her.”^(D) ⁸Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

⁶This they said, testing Him, that they ^(A)might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, ^[a]as though He did not hear.

⁷So when they continued asking Him, He ^[b]raised Himself up and said to them, ^(B)“He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” ⁸And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
