The Empty Tomb
20 (A)Now on the first day of the week, (B)Mary Magdalene *came early to the tomb, while it *was still dark, and *saw (C)the stone already taken away from the tomb. 2 So she *ran and *came to Simon Peter and to the other (D)disciple whom Jesus loved, and *said to them, “(E)They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.” 3 (F)So Peter and the other disciple went forth, and they were going to the tomb. 4 And the two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; 5 and (G)stooping and looking in, he *saw the (H)linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in. 6 And so Simon Peter also *came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he *saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7 and (I)the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the (J)linen wrappings, but folded up in a place by itself. 8 So the other disciple who (K)had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. 9 For as yet (L)they did not understand the Scripture, (M)that He must rise again from the dead. 10 So the disciples went away again (N)to where they were staying.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
11 (O)But Mary was standing outside the tomb crying; and so, as she was crying, she (P)stooped to look into the tomb; 12 and she *saw (Q)two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying. 13 And they *said to her, “(R)Woman, why are you crying?” She *said to them, “Because (S)they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” 14 When she had said this, she turned around and *(T)saw Jesus standing there, and (U)did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus *said to her, “(V)Woman, why are you crying? Whom are you seeking?” Thinking Him to be the gardener, she *said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” 16 Jesus *said to her, “Mary!” She turned and *said to Him (W)in [a]Hebrew, “(X)Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher). 17 Jesus *said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to (Y)My brothers and say to them, ‘I (Z)ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’” 18 (AA)Mary Magdalene *came, (AB)announcing to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He had said these things to her.
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
19 So while it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and while the doors were shut where the disciples were, for (AC)fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and *said to them, “[b](AD)Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, (AE)He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then (AF)rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “(AG)Peace be with you; (AH)as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He (AI)breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 (AJ)If you forgive the sins of any, their sins [c]have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”
24 But (AK)Thomas, one of (AL)the twelve, called [d](AM)Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in (AN)His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, (AO)I will not believe.”
26 And [e]after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus *came, the doors having been [f]shut, and stood in their midst and said, “(AP)Peace be with you.” 27 Then He *said to Thomas, “(AQ)Bring your finger here, and see My hands; and bring your hand here and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? (AR)Blessed are those who did not see, and yet believed.”
Why This Gospel Was Written
30 (AS)Therefore many other [g](AT)signs Jesus also did in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written (AU)so that you may believe that Jesus is the [h]Christ, (AV)the Son of God; and that (AW)believing you may have life in His name.

El sepulcro vacío(A)
20 El primer día de la semana, María Magdalena fue al sepulcro muy temprano, cuando todavía estaba oscuro; y vio quitada la piedra que tapaba la entrada. 2 Entonces se fue corriendo a donde estaban Simón Pedro y el otro discípulo, aquel a quien Jesús quería mucho, y les dijo:
—¡Se han llevado del sepulcro al Señor, y no sabemos dónde lo han puesto!
3 Pedro y el otro discípulo salieron y fueron al sepulcro. 4 Los dos iban corriendo juntos; pero el otro corrió más que Pedro y llegó primero al sepulcro. 5 Se agachó a mirar, y vio allí las vendas, pero no entró. 6 Detrás de él llegó Simón Pedro, y entró en el sepulcro. Él también vio allí las vendas; 7 y además vio que la tela que había servido para envolver la cabeza de Jesús no estaba junto a las vendas, sino enrollada y puesta aparte. 8 Entonces entró también el otro discípulo, el que había llegado primero al sepulcro, y vio lo que había pasado, y creyó. 9 Pues todavía no habían entendido lo que dice la Escritura, que él tenía que resucitar. 10 Luego, aquellos discípulos regresaron a su casa.

11 María se quedó afuera, junto al sepulcro, llorando. Y llorando como estaba, se agachó para mirar dentro, 12 y vio dos ángeles vestidos de blanco, sentados donde había estado el cuerpo de Jesús; uno a la cabecera y otro a los pies. 13 Los ángeles le preguntaron:
—Mujer, ¿por qué lloras?
Ella les dijo:
—Porque se han llevado a mi Señor, y no sé dónde lo han puesto.
14 Apenas dijo esto, volvió la cara y vio allí a Jesús, pero no sabía que era él. 15 Jesús le preguntó:
—Mujer, ¿por qué lloras? ¿A quién buscas?
Ella, pensando que era el que cuidaba el huerto, le dijo:
—Señor, si usted se lo ha llevado, dígame dónde lo ha puesto, para que yo vaya a buscarlo.
16 Jesús entonces le dijo:
—¡María!
Ella se volvió y le dijo en hebreo:
—¡Rabuni! (que quiere decir: «Maestro»).
17 Jesús le dijo:
—No me retengas, porque todavía no he ido a reunirme con mi Padre. Pero ve y di a mis hermanos que voy a reunirme con el que es mi Padre y Padre de ustedes, mi Dios y Dios de ustedes.
18 Entonces María Magdalena fue y contó a los discípulos que había visto al Señor, y también les contó lo que él le había dicho.

19 Al llegar la noche de aquel mismo día, el primero de la semana, los discípulos se habían reunido con las puertas cerradas por miedo a las autoridades judías. Jesús entró y, poniéndose en medio de los discípulos, los saludó diciendo:
—¡Paz a ustedes!
20 Dicho esto, les mostró las manos y el costado. Y ellos se alegraron de ver al Señor. 21 Luego Jesús les dijo otra vez:
—¡Paz a ustedes! Como el Padre me envió a mí, así yo los envío a ustedes.
22 Y sopló sobre ellos, y les dijo:
—Reciban el Espíritu Santo. 23 A quienes ustedes perdonen los pecados, les quedarán perdonados; y a quienes no se los perdonen, les quedarán sin perdonar.
Tomás ve al Señor resucitado
24 Tomás, uno de los doce discípulos, al que llamaban el Gemelo, no estaba con ellos cuando llegó Jesús. 25 Después los otros discípulos le dijeron:
—Hemos visto al Señor.
Pero Tomás les contestó:
—Si no veo en sus manos las heridas de los clavos, y si no meto mi dedo en ellas y mi mano en su costado, no lo podré creer.
26 Ocho días después, los discípulos se habían reunido de nuevo en una casa, y esta vez Tomás estaba también. Tenían las puertas cerradas, pero Jesús entró, se puso en medio de ellos y los saludó, diciendo:
—¡Paz a ustedes!
27 Luego dijo a Tomás:
—Mete aquí tu dedo, y mira mis manos; y trae tu mano y métela en mi costado. No seas incrédulo; ¡cree!
28 Tomás entonces exclamó:
—¡Mi Señor y mi Dios!
29 Jesús le dijo:
—¿Crees porque me has visto? ¡Dichosos los que creen sin haber visto!
El porqué de este libro
30 Jesús hizo muchas otras señales milagrosas delante de sus discípulos, las cuales no están escritas en este libro. 31 Pero éstas se han escrito para que ustedes crean que Jesús es el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios, y para que creyendo tengan vida por medio de él.

The Empty Tomb(A)
20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene(B) went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.(C) 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved,(D) and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”(E)
3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.(F) 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in(G) at the strips of linen(H) lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head.(I) The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first,(J) also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture(K) that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)(L) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb(M) 12 and saw two angels in white,(N) seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”(O)
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”(P) 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there,(Q) but she did not realize that it was Jesus.(R)
15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?(S) Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic,(T) “Rabboni!”(U) (which means “Teacher”).
17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers(V) and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father(W) and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
18 Mary Magdalene(X) went to the disciples(Y) with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.
Jesus Appears to His Disciples
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders,(Z) Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace(AA) be with you!”(AB) 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side.(AC) The disciples were overjoyed(AD) when they saw the Lord.
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you!(AE) As the Father has sent me,(AF) I am sending you.”(AG) 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.(AH) 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”(AI)
Jesus Appears to Thomas
24 Now Thomas(AJ) (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side,(AK) I will not believe.”(AL)
26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace(AM) be with you!”(AN) 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”(AO)
28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed;(AP) blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”(AQ)
The Purpose of John’s Gospel
30 Jesus performed many other signs(AR) in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.(AS) 31 But these are written that you may believe[b](AT) that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,(AU) and that by believing you may have life in his name.(AV)
