Jesus Changes Water Into Wine
2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.(A) Jesus’ mother(B) was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Woman,[a](C) why do you involve me?”(D) Jesus replied. “My hour(E) has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”(F)
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing,(G) each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.(H) He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs(I) through which he revealed his glory;(J) and his disciples believed in him.(K)
12 After this he went down to Capernaum(L) with his mother(M) and brothers(N) and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
Jesus Clears the Temple Courts(O)
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover,(P) Jesus went up to Jerusalem.(Q) 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves,(R) and others sitting at tables exchanging money.(S) 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house(T) into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[c](U)
18 The Jews(V) then responded to him, “What sign(W) can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”(X)
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”(Y)
20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.(Z) 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.(AA) Then they believed the scripture(AB) and the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,(AC) many people saw the signs(AD) he was performing and believed(AE) in his name.[d] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind,(AF) for he knew what was in each person.(AG)

Jesus udfører sit første mirakuløse tegn
2 To dage senere var Jesu mor med ved et bryllup i byen Kana i Galilæa. 2 Jesus og hans disciple var også indbudt. 3 Under festen slap vinen op, og Jesu mor kom hen til ham og sagde: „Der er ikke mere vin.”
4 „Lad mig være i fred, mor,” sagde han. „Tiden er ikke inde endnu.” 5 Men hans mor gik hen til tjenerne og sagde: „Lige meget hvad han siger til jer, skal I bare gøre det!”
6 Der stod seks store vandkrukker i huset, som på grund af de jødiske renhedslove var lavet af sten.[a] De rummede hver ca. 100 liter. 7 Jesus bad tjenerne om at fylde dem med vand. Da de havde fyldt dem til randen, 8 sagde han: „Øs nu noget op og gå hen til den ansvarlige for festen, så han kan smage på det.” 9 Det gjorde de så, og han smagte på vandet, der nu var forvandlet til vin. Da han ikke vidste, hvor det kom fra—for det var kun tjenerne, der vidste det—kaldte han på brudgommen 10 og sagde: „Man plejer ellers at servere den fine vin først, og senere, når folk er kommet lidt i stemning, den billige vin. Hvorfor har du gemt den fine vin til nu?”
11 Det mirakel, som Jesus udførte i Kana i Galilæa, var det første tegn på hans autoritet og magt, og hans disciple troede på, at han virkelig var sendt af Gud.
12 Derefter tog han til Kapernaum sammen med sin mor, sine brødre og sine disciple, og dér blev de nogle dage.
Den første tempeludrensning
13 Nu nærmede den jødiske påske sig, og Jesus tog til Jerusalem for at deltage i højtiden. 14 Inde på selve tempelpladsen så han en masse mennesker, som solgte offerdyr. Der var både køer, får og duer. Nogle af de handlende sad ved små borde og vekslede penge. 15 Da lavede Jesus sig en pisk af reb og jog alle fårene og køerne ud. Han vendte bunden i vejret på valutahandlernes pengeposer og væltede deres borde. 16 Til dem, der solgte duer, råbte han: „Pak jeres ting sammen og forsvind!” „I må ikke gøre min Fars hus til en markedsplads.” 17 Da hans disciple så, hvad han gjorde, kom de i tanker om det ord i Skriften,[b] der siger: „Jeg brænder af nidkærhed for dit Hus.”
18 De jødiske ledere protesterede: „Hvem har givet dig lov til at jage folk ud af templet? Kan du gøre et mirakel som tegn på, at du handler på Guds vegne?”
19 Jesus svarede: „Ja, det kan jeg godt. Hvis I ødelægger Guds bolig, så vil jeg rejse den igen inden tre dage.”
20 „Det har taget 46 år at bygge Guds bolig,” indvendte de jødiske ledere, „og så vil du rejse den igen inden tre dage!”
21 Den „Guds bolig”, Jesus hentydede til, var ikke templet, men hans eget legeme. 22 Efter at han var opstået fra de døde, kom hans disciple i tanke om, at han havde sagt det. Da forstod de, hvad han mente, og de kom til tro på Skriftens ord.
23 På grund af de mirakler, Jesus gjorde i Jerusalem under påskehøjtiden, var der mange mennesker, der blev overbeviste om, at han måtte være Messias. 24-25 Men Jesus betroede sig ikke til dem,[c] for han vidste, hvad der bor i mennesket. Han havde ikke brug for nogen til at fortælle ham det.

2 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

Jesus Cleanses the Temple(M)

The Discerner of Hearts
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the (V)signs which He did. 24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He (W)knew all men, 25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for (X)He knew what was in man.

Jesus Knows What Is in Man
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name (X)when they saw the signs that he was doing. 24 But Jesus (Y)on his part did not entrust himself to them, because (Z)he knew all people 25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for (AA)he himself knew what was in man.
