15 「我就是真葡萄樹，我父是栽培的人。 2 凡屬我不結果子的枝子，他就剪掉；凡結果子的，他就修剪乾淨，使枝子結果子更多。 3 現在你們因我講給你們的道已經潔淨了。 4 你們要常在我裏面，我也常在你們裏面。枝子若不常在葡萄樹上，自己就不能結果子；你們若不常在我裏面，也是這樣。 5 我就是葡萄樹，你們是枝子。常在我裏面的，我也常在他裏面，這人就多結果子，因為離了我，你們就不能做甚麼。 6 人若不常在我裏面，就像枝子被丟在外面，枯乾了，人撿起來，扔進火裏燒了。 7 你們若常在我裏面，我的話也常在你們裏面，凡你們想要的，祈求，就給你們成全。 8 你們多結果子，我父就因此得榮耀，你們也就是[a]我的門徒了。 9 我愛你們，正如父愛我一樣；你們要常在我的愛裏。 10 你們若遵守我的命令，就會常在我的愛裏，正如我遵守了我父的命令，常在他的愛裏。
11 「我已對你們說了這些事，是要讓我的喜樂存在你們心裏，並讓你們的喜樂得以滿足。 12 你們要彼此相愛，像我愛你們一樣，這是我的命令。 13 人為朋友捨命，人的愛心沒有比這個更大的了。 14 你們若遵行我所命令的，就是我的朋友。 15 以後我不再稱你們為僕人，因為僕人不知道主人所做的事；但我稱你們為朋友，因為我從我父所聽見的一切都已經讓你們知道了。 16 不是你們揀選了我，而是我揀選了你們，並且派你們去結果子，讓你們的果子得以長存，好使你們奉我的名，無論向父求甚麼，他會賜給你們。 17 我這樣命令你們，是要你們彼此相愛。」
世人的憎恨
18 「世人若恨你們，你們要知道，他們在恨你們以前已經恨我了。 19 你們若屬世界，世界會愛屬自己的；只因你們不屬世界，而是我從世界中揀選了你們，所以世界就恨你們。 20 你們要記得我對你們說過的話：『僕人不大於主人。』他們若迫害了我，也會迫害你們，他們若遵守了我的話，也會遵守你們的話。 21 但他們要因我的名向你們做這一切的事，因為他們不認識差我來的那位。 22 我若沒有來教導他們，他們就沒有罪；但如今他們的罪無可推諉了。 23 恨我的也恨我的父。 24 我若沒有在他們中間做過別人未曾做的事，他們就沒有罪；但如今連我與我的父，他們也看見了，也恨惡了。 25 這是要應驗他們律法上所寫的話：『他們無故地恨我。』
26 「但我要從父那裏差保惠師來，就是從父出來的那真理的靈，他來的時候要為我作見證。 27 你們也要作見證，因為你們從起初就與我同在。」

The Vine and the Branches
15 “I am(A) the true vine,(B) and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,(C) while every branch that does bear fruit(D) he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.(E) 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you.(F) No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;(G) apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.(H) 7 If you remain in me(I) and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.(J) 8 This is to my Father’s glory,(K) that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.(L)
9 “As the Father has loved me,(M) so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands,(N) you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.(O) 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.(P) 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.(Q) 14 You are my friends(R) if you do what I command.(S) 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.(T) 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you(U) so that you might go and bear fruit(V)—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.(W) 17 This is my command: Love each other.(X)
The World Hates the Disciples
18 “If the world hates you,(Y) keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you(Z) out of the world. That is why the world hates you.(AA) 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[b](AB) If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.(AC) If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name,(AD) for they do not know the one who sent me.(AE) 22 If I had not come and spoken to them,(AF) they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.(AG) 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did,(AH) they would not be guilty of sin.(AI) As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law:(AJ) ‘They hated me without reason.’[c](AK)
The Work of the Holy Spirit
26 “When the Advocate(AL) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father(AM)—the Spirit of truth(AN) who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.(AO) 27 And you also must testify,(AP) for you have been with me from the beginning.(AQ)

15 »Yo soy la vid verdadera, y mi Padre es el labrador. 2 Toda rama que en mí no da fruto, la corta; pero toda rama que da fruto la poda[a] para que dé más fruto todavía. 3 Vosotros ya estáis limpios por la palabra que os he comunicado. 4 Permaneced en mí, y yo permaneceré en vosotros. Así como ninguna rama puede dar fruto por sí misma, sino que tiene que permanecer en la vid, así tampoco vosotros podéis dar fruto si no permanecéis en mí.
5 »Yo soy la vid y vosotros las ramas. El que permanece en mí, como yo en él, dará mucho fruto; separados de mí no podéis hacer nada. 6 El que no permanece en mí es desechado y se seca, como las ramas que se recogen, se arrojan al fuego y se queman. 7 Si permanecéis en mí y mis palabras permanecen en vosotros, pedid lo que queráis, y se os concederá. 8 Mi Padre es glorificado si dais mucho fruto, mostrando así que sois mis discípulos.
9 »Así como el Padre me ha amado a mí, también yo los he amado a vosotros. Permaneced en mi amor. 10 Si obedecéis mis mandamientos, permaneceréis en mi amor, así como yo he obedecido los mandamientos de mi Padre y permanezco en su amor. 11 Os he dicho esto para que tengáis mi alegría y vuestra alegría sea completa. 12 Y este es mi mandamiento: que os améis unos a otros, como yo os he amado. 13 Nadie tiene amor más grande que el dar la vida por sus amigos. 14 Vosotros sois mis amigos si hacéis lo que yo os mando. 15 Ya no os llamo siervos, porque el siervo no está al tanto de lo que hace su amo; os he llamado amigos, porque todo lo que a mi Padre le oí decir os lo he dado a conocer. 16 No me escogisteis vosotros a mí, sino que yo os escogí a vosotros y os comisioné para que vayáis y deis fruto, un fruto que perdure. Así el Padre os dará todo lo que le pidáis en mi nombre. 17 Este es mi mandamiento: que os améis unos a otros.
Jesús y sus discípulos aborrecidos por el mundo
18 »Si el mundo os aborrece, tened presente que, antes que a vosotros, me aborreció a mí. 19 Si fuerais del mundo, el mundo os amaría como a los suyos. Pero vosotros no sois del mundo, sino que yo os he escogido de entre el mundo. Por eso el mundo os aborrece. 20 Recordad lo que os dije: “Ningún siervo es más que su amo”.[b] Si a mí me han perseguido, también a vosotros os perseguirán. Si han obedecido mis enseñanzas, también obedecerán las vuestras. 21 Os tratarán así por causa de mi nombre, porque no conocen al que me envió. 22 Si yo no hubiera venido ni les hubiera hablado, no serían culpables de pecado. Pero ahora no tienen excusa por su pecado. 23 El que me aborrece a mí también aborrece a mi Padre. 24 Si yo no hubiera hecho entre ellos las obras que ningún otro antes ha realizado, no serían culpables de pecado. Pero ahora las han visto, y sin embargo a mí y a mi Padre nos han aborrecido. 25 Pero esto sucede para que se cumpla lo que está escrito en la ley de ellos: “Me odiaron sin motivo”.[c]
26 »Cuando venga el Consolador, que yo os enviaré de parte del Padre, el Espíritu de verdad que procede del Padre, él testificará acerca de mí. 27 Y también vosotros daréis testimonio, porque habéis estado conmigo desde el principio.

15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

The World’s Hatred

The Coming Rejection
