生命之道
1 太初，道已經存在，道與上帝同在，道就是上帝。 2 太初，道就與上帝同在。 3 萬物都是藉著祂造的[a]，受造之物沒有一樣不是藉著祂造的。 4 祂裡面有生命，這生命是人類的光。 5 光照進黑暗裡，黑暗不能勝過[b]光。
6 有一個人名叫約翰，是上帝差來的。 7 他來是要為光做見證，叫世人可以藉著他而相信。 8 約翰不是那光，他來是為那光做見證。 9 那照亮世人的真光來到了世上。 10 祂來到自己所創造的世界，世界卻不認識祂。 11 祂來到自己的地方，自己的人卻不接納祂。 12 但所有接納祂的，就是那些信祂的人，祂就賜給他們權利成為上帝的兒女。 13 這些人既不是從人的血緣關係生的，也不是從人的情慾或意願生的，而是從上帝生的。
14 道成為肉身，住在我們中間，充滿了恩典和真理。我們見過祂的榮耀，正是父獨一兒子的榮耀。
15 約翰為祂做見證的時候，高聲喊道：「這就是我以前所說的那位，『祂在我以後來卻比我位分高，因為祂在我之前已經存在了。』」 16 從祂的豐盛裡，我們一次又一次地領受了恩典。 17 因為律法是藉著摩西頒佈的，恩典和真理是藉著耶穌基督賜下來的。 18 從來沒有人見過上帝，只有父懷中的獨一上帝[c]把祂顯明出來。
施洗者約翰的見證
19 以下是約翰的見證。猶太人從耶路撒冷派祭司和利未人來找約翰，查問他是誰。 20 約翰毫不隱瞞地說：「我不是基督。」
21 他們問：「那麼，你是誰？是以利亞嗎？」
他說：「不是。」
他們又問：「你是那位先知嗎？」
他說：「也不是。」
22 他們又追問：「你到底是誰？我們好回覆差我們來的人。你自己說你是誰？」
23 他說：「我就是在曠野大聲呼喊『修直主的路』的那個人，正如以賽亞先知所言。」
24 派來的人當中有幾個法利賽人[d]，他們問他： 25 「你既然不是基督，不是以利亞，也不是那位先知，那你為什麼給人施洗呢？」
26 約翰答道：「我是用水施洗，但在你們中間有一位你們不認識的， 27 祂雖然是在我以後來的，我就是給祂解鞋帶也不配。」 28 這事發生在約旦河東岸的伯大尼，那裡是約翰給人施洗的地方。
上帝的羔羊
29 次日，約翰看見耶穌走過來，就說：「看啊！上帝的羔羊，除去世人罪惡的！ 30 這就是我以前所說的那位，『有一個人在我以後來卻比我位分高，因為祂在我之前已經存在了。』 31 我以前並不認識祂，現在我用水給人施洗，是要把祂顯明給以色列人。」
32 約翰又做見證說：「我看見聖靈好像鴿子一樣從天降下，住在祂身上。 33 我本來不認識祂，但那位差我來用水給人施洗的告訴我，『你看見聖靈降下，住在誰身上，誰就是用聖靈給人施洗的。』 34 我看見了，便做見證，祂就是上帝的兒子。」
第一批門徒
35 再次日，約翰和兩個門徒站在那裡， 36 他看見耶穌經過，就說：「看啊！這是上帝的羔羊！」 37 兩個門徒聽見他的話，便跟從了耶穌。 38 耶穌轉過身來，看見他們跟著，便問：「你們想要什麼？」
他們說：「老師[e]，你住在哪裡？」
39 耶穌說：「你們來看吧。」他們便跟著去看耶穌住的地方。到了那裡大約下午四點了，他們就住在耶穌那裡。 40 聽見約翰的話後跟從耶穌的兩個人中，有一個是西門·彼得的弟弟安得烈。 41 他首先去找他哥哥西門，說：「我們找到彌賽亞了！」彌賽亞的意思是基督[f]。 42 他帶著西門去見耶穌。
耶穌看著西門，對他說：「約翰的兒子西門，你要改名為磯法。」磯法的意思是彼得。
43 又過了一天，耶穌決定去加利利。祂遇見了腓力，就對他說：「跟從我！」 44 腓力是伯賽大人，與彼得、安得烈是同鄉。 45 腓力去找拿但業，對他說：「我們遇見了摩西律法書和先知書記載的那位！祂是約瑟的兒子耶穌，從拿撒勒來的。」
46 拿但業說：「拿撒勒還會出什麼好東西？」
腓力說：「你來看看吧！」
47 耶穌看見拿但業走過來，就指著他說：「看啊，這是個真正的以色列人！他心裡毫無詭詐。」
48 拿但業問耶穌：「你怎麼會認識我？」
耶穌答道：「腓力還沒有去找你之前，我就看見你在無花果樹下了。」
49 拿但業說：「老師，你是上帝的兒子！你是以色列的王！」
50 耶穌說：「我說看見你在無花果樹下，你就信我嗎？將來你還要看見比這更大的事。 51 我實實在在地告訴你們，你們會看見天門敞開，上帝的天使以人子[g]為梯上上下下。」

A existência eterna de Cristo
1 No princípio, antes de existir qualquer outra coisa, a Palavra[a] já existia.
A Palavra estava com Deus. A Palavra era Deus.
2 Aquele que era a Palavra estava no princípio com Deus.
3 Por meio dele tudo o que existe foi criado.
Não existe nada que não tenha sido feito por ele.
4 Nele estava a vida
e essa vida era luz para os homens.
5 A Luz[b] brilha na escuridão
e a escuridão não pôde apagá-la.[c]
6 Havia um homem chamado João que tinha sido enviado por Deus. 7 Ele veio para falar a respeito da Luz[d], para que por meio dele todos os homens possam crer na Luz. 8 João não era a Luz; ele só veio para falar da Luz. 9 Aquele que era a Luz verdadeira estava vindo para o mundo. A Luz verdadeira ilumina a todos os homens.
10 Ele estava no mundo.
O mundo foi feito por meio dele,
mas o mundo não o conheceu.
11 Ele veio para o mundo, que era seu,
mas o seu próprio povo não o recebeu.
12 Porém algumas pessoas o aceitaram.
E para essas pessoas que acreditaram nele,
ele deu o direito[e] de se tornarem filhos de Deus.
13 Eles não nasceram por um novo nascimento físico,
ou por desejo ou decisão humana.
Eles nasceram de Deus.
14 A Palavra se tornou um ser humano e viveu entre nós.
A Palavra estava cheia de graça e verdade.
Nós vimos a sua glória,
glória que pertence somente ao único Filho do Pai.
15 João testemunhou a respeito dele e disse:
—Era deste homem que eu falava: Aquele que vem depois de mim é mais importante do que eu, pois existia antes de mim.
16 Ele estava cheio de graça e verdade
e todos nós temos recebido dele bênçãos e mais bênçãos.[f]
17 A lei foi dada por meio de Moisés,
mas a graça e a verdade vieram por meio de Jesus Cristo.
18 Ninguém jamais viu a Deus Pai.
Mas o único Filho, que também é Deus e está
em perfeita união com o Pai,
nos mostrou como Deus é.[g]
João fala a respeito de Jesus

19 Os judeus de Jerusalém mandaram alguns sacerdotes e levitas perguntar a João:
—Quem é você?
Então João, dando testemunho, 20 não hesitou em responder e disse claramente:
—Eu não sou o Messias.
21 Eles tornaram a perguntar:
—Então, quem é você? Você é Elias?
Ele respondeu:
—Não, não sou Elias.
Depois perguntaram:
—Você é o Profeta[h]?
Ele respondeu:
—Também não sou o Profeta.
22 Então disseram:
—Diga-nos quem você é para que possamos levar uma resposta àqueles que nos enviaram. O que você diz de você mesmo?
23 João lhes respondeu nas palavras do profeta Isaías:
“Eu sou a voz de alguém que clama no deserto:
Endireitem o caminho para o Senhor”.(A)
24 No grupo de judeus enviados a João, estavam também alguns fariseus. 25 Eles disseram:
—Você diz que não é o Messias, nem Elias, nem o Profeta. Então por que está batizando?
26 João respondeu:
—Eu batizo em água, mas entre vocês está um homem que vocês não conhecem, 27 e que vem depois de mim. Eu nem sequer sou digno de desamarrar os cadarços das suas sandálias.
28 Tudo isso aconteceu em Betânia, do outro lado do rio Jordão. Era ali que João estava batizando pessoas.
Jesus, o Cordeiro de Deus
29 No dia seguinte, quando João viu que Jesus vinha ao seu encontro, disse:
—Olhem o Cordeiro de Deus[i]! O Cordeiro que tira os pecados do mundo! 30 Era deste homem que eu dizia: Um homem que é mais importante do que eu virá depois de mim. Ele é mais importante do que eu porque já existia antes de mim. 31 Eu mesmo não sabia quem ele era. Mas vim batizando em água para que o povo de Israel pudesse saber quem ele é.
32-33 Depois João disse:
—Eu não sabia quem era o Messias. Mas Deus me mandou para batizar em água e disse: “Você vai ver o Espírito Santo descer e pousar num homem. Esse é o homem que vai batizar no Espírito Santo”.
João continuou:
—Eu vi isso acontecer. Vi o Espírito Santo descer do céu, da mesma forma que uma pomba desce, e pousar nele. 34 Por isso digo a todos: Ele é o Filho de Deus[j].
Os primeiros homens a seguir Jesus
35 No dia seguinte, João estava no mesmo local e com ele estavam dois dos homens que o seguiam. 36 Ao ver Jesus passar por ali, João disse:
—Olhem o Cordeiro de Deus!
37 Os dois homens que seguiam a João ouviram o que ele disse e foram atrás de Jesus. 38 Jesus, virando-se para trás, viu que eles o seguiam e disse:
—O que vocês querem?
Eles perguntaram:
—Rabi, onde é que o senhor mora?
(Rabi quer dizer “Mestre”.)
39 Jesus respondeu:
—Venham comigo e verão.
Então os dois homens foram com ele, viram o lugar onde Jesus morava e ficaram lá com ele nesse dia. Eram mais ou menos quatro horas da tarde.
40 André, irmão de Simão Pedro, era um dos dois homens que tinham ido atrás de Jesus depois de terem ouvido João falar dele. 41 Logo depois, André foi procurar seu irmão Simão e lhe disse:
—Encontramos o Messias!
(Messias quer dizer “o Rei Escolhido por Deus[k]”.)
42 Depois André levou Simão a Jesus. Jesus olhou para Simão e disse:
—Você é Simão, filho de João; de agora em diante será chamado Cefas.
(Cefas quer dizer “Pedro[l]”.)
43 No outro dia, Jesus decidiu ir para a Galileia. Encontrou Filipe e lhe disse:
—Siga-me!
44 Filipe era de Betsaida, onde também moravam André e Pedro. 45 Filipe encontrou Natanael e disse:
—Nós encontramos o homem de quem Moisés escreveu na lei e sobre quem os profetas também escreveram! Ele é Jesus, filho de José. Ele é de Nazaré.
46 Mas Natanael disse a Filipe:
—De Nazaré? Pode vir alguma coisa boa de Nazaré?
—Venha ver—respondeu Filipe. 47 Jesus viu Natanael vindo em sua direção e disse:
—Aqui está um verdadeiro homem do povo de Israel. Nele não há falsidade.[m]
48 Natanael perguntou:
—De onde você me conhece?
Jesus respondeu:
—Eu vi você quando estava debaixo da figueira, antes de Filipe o chamar.
49 Então Natanael disse a Jesus:
—Mestre, o senhor é o Filho de Deus! O senhor é o Rei do povo de Deus!
50 Jesus respondeu a Natanael:
—Você acredita em mim só por eu ter dito que vi você debaixo da figueira? Irá ver coisas maiores do que esta.
51 E Jesus continuou:
—Digo a verdade a vocês: Vocês todos vão ver o céu aberto e “os anjos de Deus subindo e descendo”(B) sobre o Filho do Homem.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word,(A) and the Word was with God,(B) and the Word was God.(C) 2 He was with God in the beginning.(D) 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.(E) 4 In him was life,(F) and that life was the light(G) of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness,(H) and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.(I)
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John.(J) 7 He came as a witness to testify(K) concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.(L) 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

John the Baptist Denies Being the Messiah
19 Now this was John’s(AG) testimony when the Jewish leaders[c](AH) in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”(AI)
21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”(AJ)
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”(AK)
He answered, “No.”
22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness,(AL) ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”[d](AM)
24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent 25 questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 “I baptize with[e] water,”(AN) John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me,(AO) the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”(AP)
28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan,(AQ) where John was baptizing.
John Testifies About Jesus
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God,(AR) who takes away the sin of the world!(AS) 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’(AT) 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.(AU) 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water(AV) told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’(AW) 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”[f](AX)
John’s Disciples Follow Jesus(AY)
35 The next day John(AZ) was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”(BA)
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”
They said, “Rabbi”(BB) (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).(BC) 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called(BD) Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter[g]).(BE)
Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael
43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip,(BF) he said to him, “Follow me.”(BG)
44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.(BH) 45 Philip found Nathanael(BI) and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law,(BJ) and about whom the prophets also wrote(BK)—Jesus of Nazareth,(BL) the son of Joseph.”(BM)
46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?”(BN) Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip.
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite(BO) in whom there is no deceit.”(BP)
48 “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.
Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
49 Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi,(BQ) you are the Son of God;(BR) you are the king of Israel.”(BS)
50 Jesus said, “You believe[h] because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 He then added, “Very truly I tell you,[i] you[j] will see ‘heaven open,(BT) and the angels of God ascending and descending(BU) on’[k] the Son of Man.”(BV)

The Eternal Word(A)
1 In the beginning (B)was the Word, and the (C)Word was (D)with God, and the Word was (E)God. 2 (F)He was in the beginning with God. 3 (G)All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 (H)In Him was life, and (I)the life was the light of men. 5 And (J)the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not [a]comprehend it.
John’s Witness: The True Light
6 There was a (K)man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a (L)witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might (M)believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that (N)Light. 9 (O)That[b] was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and (P)the world did not know Him. 11 (Q)He came to His [c]own, and His [d]own did not receive Him. 12 But (R)as many as received Him, to them He gave the [e]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 (S)who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

A Voice in the Wilderness(AH)
19 Now this is (AI)the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 (AJ)He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you (AK)the Prophet?”
And he answered, “No.”
22 Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said: (AL)“I am
(AM)‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Make straight the way of the Lord,” ’
as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees. 25 And they asked him, saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, saying, (AN)“I baptize with water, (AO)but there stands One among you whom you do not know. 27 (AP)It is He who, coming after me, [i]is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”
28 These things were done (AQ)in [j]Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
The Lamb of God(AR)
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! (AS)The Lamb of God (AT)who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who [k]is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, (AU)therefore I came baptizing with water.”
32 (AV)And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, (AW)this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the (AX)Son of God.”
The First Disciples
35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, (AY)“Behold the Lamb of God!”
37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they (AZ)followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?”
They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”
39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was (BA)Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the [l]Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of [m]Jonah. (BB)You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, [n]A Stone).
Philip and Nathanael
43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found (BC)Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now (BD)Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found (BE)Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom (BF)Moses in the law, and also the (BG)prophets, wrote—Jesus (BH)of Nazareth, the (BI)son of Joseph.”
46 And Nathanael said to him, (BJ)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, (BK)an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”
48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, (BL)You are the Son of God! You are (BM)the King of Israel!”
50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (BN)hereafter[o] you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”
