問安
1 我[a]這做長老的，
致蒙愛的蓋尤斯，就是我在真理中所愛的：
2 蒙愛的人哪，我願你凡事安順，身體健康，正如你的靈魂[b]安順。 3 有些弟兄來到這裡，見證了你對真理的忠信[c]，就是你怎樣在真理中行事[d]，這使我極其歡喜。 4 聽到我的兒女在真理中行事[e]，我的喜樂沒有比這更大的了。
接待神的工人
5 蒙愛的人哪，你為弟兄們，尤其是為異鄉的弟兄們所做的，都是忠心的。 6 他們在教會面前見證了你的愛。你如果以神喜悅的方式送他們上路，就做得很好了， 7 因為他們為了基督的名[f]出去，並沒有從外邦人接受什麼。 8 所以，我們應該幫助這樣的人，好讓我們為真理成為同工[g]。
迪奧特菲與迪米特斯
9 我寫了信給教會，但是他們中那喜歡為首的迪奧特菲不接納我們。 10 所以，如果我來了，我一定要提起他所做的事，就是他用壞話汙衊我們；而且他在這些事上還不滿足，不但自己不接納弟兄們，也阻止那些願意接納的人，甚至把他們趕出教會。
11 蒙愛的人哪，不要效法惡，而要效法善。那行善的屬於神；那作惡的未曾看見神。 12 迪米特斯受到了大家的讚許，也得了真理本身的讚許；我們也為他做見證，而且你知道我們的見證是真實的。
信末的問候
13 我有很多話要寫給你，但不願意用筆墨寫給你。 14 我希望立刻見到你，並且面對面交談。
15 願你平安！朋友們都問候你。請你一一提名問候各位朋友。

1 我，一名长老，写信给我亲爱的朋友该犹，我在真理 [a]之中爱他。
2 亲爱的朋友，我祝你万事如意，身体健康，就像你在心灵上健康一样。 3 一些兄弟到我这里来，把你忠于真理和继续遵从真理之道的消息告诉了我。这使我非常高兴。 4 没有比听到我的孩子们遵从真理之道更让我高兴的事了。
5 亲爱的朋友，尽管我们的兄弟对你来说是陌生人，但你却忠诚地为他们尽你之所能。 6 他们在教会里为你所表现的爱做了见证。请用令上帝满意的方式，帮他们继续他们的旅程。 7 因为他们是为了侍奉耶稣才踏上旅途的，并且没有接受异教徒的任何帮助。 8 因此我们应该帮助这些兄弟，以便和他们一起为真理工作。
9 我给这个教会写过一封信，但是，想当他们的领袖的丢特腓却不接受我们所说的。 10 所以当我来的时候，要揭露他的行为。他用恶毒的语言造谣，蓄意控告我，但还不甘心。此外，他不但拒绝帮助那些为侍奉基督而工作的兄弟，还阻挠那些想要帮助这些兄弟们的人，并且把他们赶出教会。
11 亲爱的朋友，要从善，不要从恶。行善的人属于上帝，做恶的人从来就不认识上帝。
12 大家都称赞低米丢，真理为他作证。我们也为他作证。你们知道我们所说的是真实的。
13 我有许多事情想告诉你，但我不想用纸和墨来交流。 14 我希望不久能去探访你们，和你们当面倾谈。 15 愿你平安。这里所有的朋友（信徒）问候你们。请代我向那里我们的各位朋友一一问候。

1 The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers. 3 For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth. 4 I have no greater joy than this: to hear about my children walking in truth.
5 Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers. 6 They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a way worthy of God, 7 because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles. 8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
9 I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say. 10 Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, he doesn’t receive the brothers himself, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.
11 Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God. 12 Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
13 I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen; 14 but I hope to see you soon. Then we will speak face to face.
