瑣法再度發言
20 拿瑪人瑣法回答說：
2 「我感到煩躁不安，
心中有話不吐不快。
3 我聽見你侮辱我的斥責，
我的理智催促我回答。
4 難道你不知道，從古至今，
自從世上有人以來，
5 惡人得勢不會長久，
不信上帝者的快樂轉瞬即逝？
6 雖然他傲氣沖天，
把頭挺到雲端，
7 終必如自己的糞便永遠消亡，
見過他的人都不知他在何處。
8 他如夢消逝，蹤影杳然；
如夜間的異象，飛逝而去。
9 見過他的人不會再見到他，
他將從家鄉消失無蹤。
10 他的兒女要向窮人乞憐，
他要親手償還不義之財。
11 他的筋骨依然強健，
卻要隨他葬入塵土。
12 「他以邪惡為甘飴，
將其藏在舌下，
13 含在口中，
慢慢品味。
14 這食物在腹中變酸，
變成了蛇的毒液。
15 他要吐出所吞下的財富，
上帝要倒空他腹中之物。
16 他吸吮蛇的毒液，
被蛇的舌頭害死。
17 他無法享用流淌不盡的奶與蜜。
18 他留不住勞碌的成果，
無法享用所賺的財富。
19 他欺壓、漠視窮人，
強佔別人的房屋。
20 他貪慾無度，
不放過任何喜愛之物。
21 他吞掉一切所有，
他的福樂不能長久。
22 他在富足時將陷入困境，
各種災禍將接踵而至。
23 上帝的怒火如雨降在他身上，
填滿他的肚腹。
24 他躲過了鐵刃，
卻被銅箭射穿。
25 利箭穿透他的後背，
閃亮的箭頭刺破他的膽囊，
恐怖籠罩著他。
26 他的財寶消失在幽冥中，
天火[a]要吞噬他，
焚毀他帳篷中殘留的一切。
27 天要揭露他的罪惡，
地要站出來指控他。
28 在上帝發烈怒的日子，
洪流將席捲他的家產。
29 這便是上帝為惡人定下的結局，
為他們預備的歸宿。」

Zofar parla dell'empio e del suo castigo
20 (A)Allora Zofar di Naama rispose
e disse:
2 «Per questo i miei pensieri mi
spingono a risponderti
e, a causa di ciò, c'è questa fretta
dentro di me.
3 Ho udito rimproveri che mi fanno
oltraggio;
ma lo spirito mio darà una risposta
assennata.
4 Non lo sai tu che in ogni tempo,
da che l'uomo è stato posto sulla terra,
5 il trionfo dei malvagi è breve;
la gioia degli empi non dura che un
istante?
6 Anche se la sua altezza giungesse
fino al cielo,
il suo capo toccasse le nubi,
7 l'empio perirà per sempre come
lo sterco suo;
quelli che lo vedevano diranno:
“Dov'è?”
8 Se ne volerà via come un sogno,
non si troverà piú;
si dileguerà come una visione notturna.
9 L'occhio che lo guardava cesserà
di vederlo
e la sua casa piú non lo scorgerà.
10 I suoi figli si raccomanderanno
ai poveri,
le sue mani restituiranno la sua
ricchezza.
11 Il vigore giovanile che gli riempiva le ossa
sarà nella polvere con lui.
12 Il male è dolce alla sua bocca,
se lo nasconde sotto la lingua,
13 lo conserva, non lo lascia andar giú,
lo trattiene sotto al suo palato:
14 ma il cibo gli si trasforma nelle
viscere,
gli diventa in corpo veleno d'aspide.
15 Ha trangugiato ricchezze e le
vomiterà;
Dio stesso gliele ricaccerà dal ventre.
16 Ha succhiato veleno d'aspide,
la lingua della vipera l'ucciderà.
17 Non godrà piú la vista d'acque
perenni,
né di rivi fluenti di miele e di latte.
18 Renderà i suoi frutti, e non li
mangerà;
saranno pari alla ricchezza dei suoi guadagni,
e non ne godrà.
19 Perché ha oppresso e abbandonato il povero,
si è impadronito di case che non aveva costruite;
20 perché la sua ingordigia non
conobbe limiti,
egli non salverà nulla di ciò che ha
tanto desiderato.
21 La sua voracità non risparmiava
nulla,
perciò il suo benessere non durerà.
22 Nel colmo dell'abbondanza, si
troverà in miseria;
la mano di chiunque ebbe a soffrir
tormenti si alzerà contro di lui.
23 Quando starà per riempirsi il ventre,
Dio manderà contro di lui la sua ira
ardente;
gliela farà piovere addosso per servirgli da cibo.
24 Se scampa alle armi di ferro,
lo trafigge l'arco di bronzo.
25 Si strappa la freccia, essa gli esce
dal corpo,
la punta sfolgorante gli viene fuori dal fiele,
lo assalgono i terrori della morte.
26 Buio profondo è riservato ai suoi tesori;
lo consumerà un fuoco non attizzato
dall'uomo,
che divorerà quel che resta nella sua tenda.
27 Il cielo rivelerà la sua *iniquità,
la terra insorgerà contro di lui.
28 Le rendite della sua casa se ne
andranno,
portate via nel giorno dell'ira di Dio.
29 Tale la parte che Dio riserva
all'empio,
tale l'eredità che Dio gli destina».

Zophar’s Sermon on the Wicked Man
20 Then (A)Zophar the Naamathite answered and said:
2 “Therefore my anxious thoughts make me answer,
Because of the turmoil within me.
3 I have heard the rebuke [a]that reproaches me,
And the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.
4 “Do you not know this of (B)old,
Since man was placed on earth,
5 (C)That the triumphing of the wicked is short,
And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a (D)moment?
6 (E)Though his haughtiness mounts up to the heavens,
And his head reaches to the clouds,
7 Yet he will perish forever like his own refuse;
Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
8 He will fly away (F)like a dream, and not be found;
Yes, he (G)will be chased away like a vision of the night.
9 The eye that saw him will see him no more,
Nor will his place behold him anymore.
10 His children will seek the favor of the poor,
And his hands will restore his wealth.
11 His bones are full of (H)his youthful vigor,
(I)But it will lie down with him in the dust.
12 “Though evil is sweet in his mouth,
And he hides it under his tongue,
13 Though he spares it and does not forsake it,
But still keeps it in his [b]mouth,
14 Yet his food in his stomach turns sour;
It becomes cobra venom within him.
15 He swallows down riches
And vomits them up again;
God casts them out of his belly.
16 He will suck the poison of cobras;
The viper’s tongue will slay him.
17 He will not see (J)the streams,
The rivers flowing with honey and cream.
18 He will restore that for which he labored,
And will not swallow it down;
From the proceeds of business
He will get no enjoyment.
19 For he has [c]oppressed and forsaken the poor,
He has violently seized a house which he did not build.
20 “Because(K) he knows no quietness in his [d]heart,
He will not save anything he desires.
21 Nothing is left for him to eat;
Therefore his well-being will not last.
22 In his self-sufficiency he will be in distress;
Every hand of [e]misery will come against him.
23 When he is about to fill his stomach,
God will cast on him the fury of His wrath,
And will rain it on him while he is eating.
24 (L)He will flee from the iron weapon;
A bronze bow will pierce him through.
25 It is drawn, and comes out of the body;
Yes, (M)the glittering point comes out of his [f]gall.
(N)Terrors come upon him;
26 Total darkness is reserved for his treasures.
(O)An unfanned fire will consume him;
It shall go ill with him who is left in his tent.
27 The heavens will reveal his iniquity,
And the earth will rise up against him.
28 The increase of his house will depart,
And his goods will flow away in the day of His (P)wrath.
29 (Q)This is the portion from God for a wicked man,
The heritage appointed to him by God.”
