約伯自言己智不亞於友
12 約伯回答說： 2 「你們真是子民哪！你們死亡，智慧也就滅沒了。 3 但我也有聰明，與你們一樣，並非不及你們。你們所說的，誰不知道呢？ 4 我這求告神，蒙他應允的人，竟成了朋友所譏笑的。公義完全人，竟受了人的譏笑。 5 安逸的人心裡藐視災禍，這災禍常常等待滑腳的人。 6 強盜的帳篷興旺，惹神的人穩固，神多將財物送到他們手中。
7 「你且問走獸，走獸必指教你；又問空中的飛鳥，飛鳥必告訴你； 8 或與地說話，地必指教你；海中的魚也必向你說明。 9 看這一切，誰不知道是耶和華的手做成的呢？ 10 凡活物的生命和人類的氣息，都在他手中。 11 耳朵豈不試驗言語，正如上膛嘗食物嗎？ 12 年老的有智慧，壽高的有知識。

13 「在神有智慧和能力，他有謀略和知識。 14 他拆毀的，就不能再建造；他捆住人，便不得開釋。 15 他把水留住，水便枯乾；他再發出水來，水就翻地。 16 在他有能力和智慧，被誘惑的與誘惑人的，都是屬他。 17 他把謀士剝衣擄去，又使審判官變成愚人。 18 他放鬆君王的綁，又用帶子捆他們的腰。 19 他把祭司剝衣擄去，又使有能的人傾敗。 20 他廢去忠信人的講論，又奪去老人的聰明。 21 他使君王蒙羞被辱，放鬆有力之人的腰帶。 22 他將深奧的事從黑暗中彰顯，使死蔭顯為光明。 23 他使邦國興旺而又毀滅，他使邦國開廣而又擄去。 24 他將地上民中首領的聰明奪去，使他們在荒廢無路之地漂流。 25 他們無光，在黑暗中摸索，又使他們東倒西歪，像醉酒的人一樣。

12 约伯回答说：
2 “你们真是什么都懂的人啊，
你们死了，智慧也会消逝！
3 但我也有心智，不比你们逊色。
你们说的，谁不知道？
4 我这求告上帝并蒙祂应允的人竟成了朋友的笑柄，
我这公义纯全的人竟成了笑柄。
5 安逸的人心中藐视灾祸，
常常藐视那些滑倒的人。
6 强盗的帐篷太平，
冒犯上帝、手捧神像的人安稳。
7 “你去问走兽，它们会指教你；
问天上的飞禽，它们会告诉你；
8 向大地讨教，大地会指教你，
或让海中的鱼为你阐明。
9 它们当中哪个不知这是耶和华所为？
10 所有生灵都在祂手中，
世人的气息也不例外。
11 舌头岂不品尝食物，
耳朵岂不辨别话语？
12 智慧与老人相伴，
知识与长者为伍。
13 “上帝有智慧和权能，
谋略和知识属于祂。
14 祂拆毁的，无法重建；
祂囚禁的，无法获释。
15 祂拦住水源，便有干旱；

King James Version
12 And Job answered and said,
2 No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.
3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?
4 I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.
5 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.
6 The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:
8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?
10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
11 Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?
12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.
14 Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.
15 Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.
17 He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.
18 He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.
19 He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.
20 He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.
21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.
22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
23 He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.
24 He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
25 They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
